Tommy Fury says Aug. 6 fight with Jake Paul in New York is on

Tommy Fury said an Aug. 6 fight with Jake Paul in New York is on.

Tommy Fury appears to be Jake Paul’s opponent for Aug. 6 in New York.

Paul, the YouTuber-turned-boxer, ranted on social media early Wednesday that Fury was pulling out of a fight with him for a second time because his father, John Fury, cannot travel to the U.S. because of a criminal conviction.

However, the brother of Tyson Fury responded by saying that the fight is on.

“See you on August 6th, pal,” Fury commented in response to Paul’s tweet.

Paul and Fury, also a social media star, were expected to meet this past December but Fury pulled out because of an injury and illness. Instead, Paul stopped Tyron Woodley in their rematch.

The two reportedly had been in talks for weeks to reschedule the fight for the summer.

The younger Fury went on in a subsequent tweet: “The fight is on. August 6th. Forget a team or any other bull—-. I don’t need anybody to help me lay you flat on that canvas. Oh and thanks for finally signing the drug testing… you only agreed to it when you realized the fight was at risk – who needs who”

The fight is expected to take place at cruiserweight, which has a limit of 200 pounds. Paul (5-0, 4 KOs) is a small for the division while Fury (8-0, 4 KOs) is a big light heavyweight, having fought as heavy as 189 pounds. Paul weighed 191¼ for the second Woodley fight.

Jake Paul takes page out of Conor McGregor’s playbook with cryptic retirement tweet

Jake Paul took a page out of Conor McGregor’s playbook with his cryptic retirement tweet.

Not even 24 hours removed from beating former UFC champion Tyron Woodley in the ring, YouTuber-turned-boxing sensation Jake Paul, the self-proclaimed “new face of the fight game”, is now …… retired?

Maybe. Possibly. Probably not?

Unless you believe this cryptic tweet he sent out early Monday evening:

Updated status:

Retired boxer

So that’s it. Party’s over just like that after four fights against non-boxers? If so, Paul just made so many of his haters begging for him to go away very happy. But the thing is, this looks all too familiar to us.

Back in April 2016, Conor McGregor pulled this same move. Remember? “I have decided to retire young. Thanks for the cheese, Catch ya’s later,” he tweeted without explanation. That, of course, turned out to be not true, and he had an epic rematch with Nate Diaz four months later, which McGregor won.

McGregor “decided to retire from fighting” in June 2020, as well – or so he tweeted. But again, not true, and he was back in the cage seven months later getting knocked out by Dustin Poirier at UFC 257.

The point of those McGregor retirement tweets was to cause a stir and build intrigue around his name even further. We’re willing to bet that’s what Jake Paul is doing here, too.

But hey, if we’re wrong, it was fun while it lasted. Rejoice, haters!

Can Logan Paul defeat Mike Tyson? The YouTuber thinks so

The boxing exploits of YouTube celebrity brothers Logan and Jake Paul continue to provoke and polarize the fight fan community, and the recent podcast comments of the older brother will be sure to irk many.

Logan Paul recently took part in an exhibition bout against retired 50-0 boxing great Floyd Mayweather Jr., in which no winner was declared. Mayweather bragged before and afterward that the pay-per-view spectacle was “legalized bank robbery.”

The attention such bouts involving amateurs have garnered are rivaled only by the trend of retired fighters returning in their 50s for similar non-competitive outings, with Mike Tyson’s well-received bout with Roy Jones Jr. last year the best example.

The comparisons between those two non-championship realms led to Logan Paul to claim he could not only feasibly face Tyson next but that he could win.

He said on his show ‘Impaulsive‘: “Someone mentioned Mike Tyson. Like how funny is it? One great at a time. Or is it like you can only fight one? My lawyer mentioned it, and he was like: ‘No, Tyson will rip your head off. You don’t stand a chance.’

“I’m like, ‘Bro, I literally just went through all of this. You can’t tell me I can’t beat Mike Tyson.’ Bro, he’s old, old!”

Jake Paul, who is 3-0 in boxing with wins over three non-fighters in their respective pugilistic debuts (streamer KSI, former NBA player Nate Robinson and ex-UFC star Ben Askren) then reassured his sibling, “You did better than Conor McGregor against Floyd Mayweather.”

Jake Paul will be back in action in August when he faces another UFC name, Tyron Woodley. Unlike Askren, Woodley has respected striking skills, but it remains to be seen how that translates into a boxing ring with vastly different rules.

Both Logan Paul and Tyson are expected back for exhibitions, perhaps before the end of 2021, though there is no official confirmation of any formal negotiations. You can read DAZN’s interview with Triller founder Ryan Kavanaugh, in which he provides an update on the situation between Triller and Tyson.

Jake Paul says he’ll ’embarrass’ Nate Diaz, lure Conor McGregor into ring

Jake Paul says he’ll ’embarrass’ Nate Diaz once Diaz’s UFC contract ends and then lure Conor McGregor into the ring,

Jake Paul sees the brightest of futures for his boxing career, which includes a path toward perhaps the most lucrative bout in the fight game against Conor McGregor.

That path goes though Nate Diaz.

Paul, the YouTube personality, rapper and actor who has crossed over into the boxing world, is scheduled for his third professional boxing bout April 17 when he takes on former MMA standout Ben Askren on pay-per-view.

Although there seems to be a lot of skepticism around Paul’s career, he promises he’s taking it seriously and thinks Askren is merely the foundation to some truly marquee fights.

“We’ll see what happens after this fight,” Paul told MMA Junkie. “Floyd Mayweather called me out last week. I still think there’s the McGregor fight. Nate Diaz said he’s down to fight me. We’ll see what happens. I’m excited. This is just the start of an illustrious career. Ben Askren just happens to be the first on the list.

“People are going to see. They’re going to be surprised, and it’s going to be hard for me to get a fight after this, to be honest. It really is. People are going to see my performance and say, ‘Let’s really second guess ourselves here because, do we want to lose to the Disney channel actor, boxer kid?”

Eventually, though, Paul thinks his value and stardom will grow to the point that he’ll be an irresistible fight to the biggest names in combat sports, such as the aforementioned Mayweather, McGregor and Diaz.

Diaz is a particularly intriguing matchup to Paul. In his mind, it’s the most realistic, and it would also serve a greater purpose.

Last week, Diaz said in an interview with ESPN that a boxing match with Paul would “for sure” will happen “at some point.” According to Paul, the wheels are already starting to turn, and he claims Diaz has just two fights remaining on his UFC contract.

If that turns out to be the case, and they fight, Paul said he’d produce a one-sided effort that would undoubtedly catch McGregor’s attention.

Jake Paul scheduled to face professional boxer on April 17

YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul is scheduled to face an unnamed professional boxer on April 17.

Jake Paul could face a legitimate test in his next fight.

The YouTuber, who stopped retired basketball player Nate Robinson in November, will fight a professional boxer April 17 on pay-per-view, it was announced in a news release. The opponent and site haven’t been determined.

Paul (2-0 as a pro) has been embraced by some and criticized by others who believe celebrities in boxing makes a mockery of the sport.

“Hate me or love me, you can’t stop me,” Paul said in the release. “April 17, I headline a global PPV event and I am getting my third knockout in a row. I look to prove to the world that I am and I will remain one of the biggest names in this sport.”

Paul recently signed with Fight Club, the promotional company formed by the social networking app Triller and rapper Snoop Dogg.

That team staged the Mike Tyson-Roy Jones Jr. exhibition on Nov. 28 in Los Angeles. Paul knocked out Robinson in the second round on the undercard.

“Our efforts for the Tyson vs. Jones event proved that Triller is capable of hosting high-quality, culture changing sporting events,” Triller founder Ryan Kavanaugh said.

“Jake Paul was the breakout athlete of the night, and we listened to the more than 30 million fans that have expressed interest in watching him fight again.”
