PFF grades for every Seahawks offensive player at midseason

Pro Football Focus grades for the Seattle Seahawks offensive players after eight games played.

The Seahawks are at the midway point on their 2023 schedule. That makes this an ideal time to evaluate how the the team is performing. Let’s begin by examining the Pro Football Focus grades for each player this season, starting on offense.

On this side of the ball the Seahawks are being carried by a trio of wide receivers – although not the trio that we were expecting coming into this season. While DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett are still performing at a high level, it’s been Jake Bobo that’s earned the highest grade for this unit, while fellow rookie Jaxon Smith-Njigba has only recently gotten going and still has a relatively low grade. Despite the rash of recent turnovers, they’re also getting a solid grade from starting quarterback Geno Smith.

On the other end of things, PFF’s lowest offensive grade once again belongs to Jake Curhan, who struggled at right tackle in relief of injured starter Abe Lucas. To be fair, the rest of Seattle’s offensive line isn’t grading out much better than Curhan, though.

Let’s get to the grades. For brevity we have excluded players who have not been on the field for at least 50 offensive snaps this year.

6 takeaways from Seahawks 24-20 win over the Browns

It wouldn’t be a Seattle Seahawks game if the team wasn’t causing the 12th Man to age prematurely from stress. Despite an explosive 17-point first quarter, the Seahawks looked completely lifeless for almost the remainder of the game, until the last two minutes. As head coach Pete Carroll preaches religiously, you can only win the game in the fourth quarter.

It was hardly a clean win, and towards the end it sure looked like it was going to be a disappointing Sunday for Seattle. But the Seahawks took advantage of Cleveland’s miscues late and grabbed victory from the jaws of defeat.

Through eight weeks, Seattle is now 5-2 and in sole possession of first place in the NFC West. It wasn’t an easy road to this point, and there’s still plenty of distance left to travel. But for now, we’ll dive into some takeaways from this 24-20 win over the Browns.

First half highlights: Seahawks lead Browns 17-14

It’s been an explosive first half between the Seattle Seahawks and the Cleveland Browns. Instead of it being another defensive slugfest as many may have predicted, it’s been an afternoon filled with early fireworks on both sides. Fortunately, the Seahawks have had more.

Seattle started the game with an opening drive touchdown, scoring in the red zone to help alleviate some of the woes they’ve faced in this part of the field. Fan favorite rookie wide receiver Jake Bobo got things going with his three-yard touchdown run.

The Seahawks’ strong start continued with linebacker Jordyn Brooks forcing a fumble on this sack of PJ Walker. Second year defender Boye Mafe recovered, setting Seattle up nicely in Cleveland territory.

The Seahawks capitalized on the turnover, as Geno Smith found Tyler Lockett in the corner of the end zone, after he survived the pass rush. Smith’s pocket presense was exceptional in the first half.

Cleveland was able to finally get on the board following Seattle’s second touchdown, and cut the lead to 14-7.

On the Seahawks’ next possession, wide receiver DK Metcalf helped set up Seattle’s offense in great field position. The Seahawks were unable to find the end zone this time, but they did manage to extend their lead to ten with a field goal, making it 17-7.

The defense held strong on the next outing by the Browns offense, as second year cornerback Riq Woolen snagged his first pick of the year.

Cleveland followed up the interception by scoring a touchdown on the ground, once again cutting into Seattle’s commanding lead.

Geno Smith was intercepted right before halftime, as the Seahawks were attempting to add more points to their narrow lead. The Browns will get the ball to start the second half.

Watch running back Ken Walker get things started by breaking off a 45-yard run against the Browns.

Legend has it that when you look good you play good. Well, it’s working so far today for the Seahawks. After sending the Browns offense to the sidelines after a quick three and out on their first possession, Seattle came out and scored fast on theirs.

That helped get the Seahawks in scoring position. They finished the drive with this clever little play that allowed rookie wide receiver Jake Bobo to sneak into the end zone on a three-yard rush.

7-0 Seahawks, who are looking more and more like a contender each snap.

Best and worst PFF grades for the Seahawks from Sunday’s victory

Here are the top and bottom five performers on both sides of the ball this week, according to the Pro Football Focus grades.

The Seahawks defeated the Cardinals 20-10 on Sunday, improving to 4-2 on the season and proving once again that they can win ugly.

Seahawks players ecstatic to wear throwback uniforms on Sunday

Seahawks players ecstatic to wear throwback uniforms on Sunday

The Seattle Seahawks announced in June they would be wearing their beloved throwback uniforms during their Week 8 game against the Cleveland Browns. Well guess what week it is, 12s? That’s right, it’s Browns week, and you know it only means one thing: for the first time since the 2001 season, the throwback uniforms are finally making their comeback!

Retro jerseys were always apart of Seahawks gameday among the 12th Man over the years. But if you visit Lumen Field on Sundays now, royal blue is everywhere. It’s not just the fans who are excited, but the players are hyped as well.

Following Seattle’s 20-10 win over the Cardinals, I had the opportunity to ask several players how they were feeling about wearing them. There was a clear consensus, as they all lit up with smiles when talking about the throwback threads.

Below are the comments from the players I interviewed when I asked the question “are you excited to wear the throwbacks next week?” It’s only fitting I start with the man the team picked to be the “face” of the official launch for the throwbacks.

Jaxon Smith-Njigba: They look good, huh? I appreciate the media team for doing that, I know how big that is for our fans, the 12’s. Look good, feel good, play good!

Geno Smith:Super excited, can’t wait to have them on and see the fans! Everyone’s going to be excited about them.

Jake Bobo:I’m very excited, (the hat) is courtesy of equipment manager Erik Kennedy. (He) asked me if I wanted it, of course I’m going to say yeah! Big week, big week!

Kenneth Walker III:Yeah, definitely. We had a 90’s themed shoot some months ago. I like the throwbacks, it’s probably my favorite uniform right now.

Jamal Adams:I am! I am looking forward to that. I gotta work on my cleat game right now. Trying to customize something right now, hopefully I can get it in time, but I’m definitely looking forward to it.

Of course, Adams might have some competition from one of his defensive teammates when it comes to the cleat game…

Jordyn Brooks:Oh I can’t wait! I’ve got some cleats (to wear) in mind, will probably be the best on the team. Can’t wait to put those out.

Bobby Wagner:I am extremely excited to wear the throwbacks. I still think we should have black jerseys, but I am not going to complain.

For those who do not know, Wagner has long been an advocate for an all-black Seahawks alternate uniform. While such a look could be cool, especially with some neon accents, I think it’s safe to say everyone is happy with the retro uniforms.

12 of the top PFF grades for the Seahawks from their Week 7 win

Here are 12 of the team’s best individual PFF grades from Sunday’s game.

The Seattle Seahawks are 4-2 as they head into the bleakest portion of their 2023 schedule. Yesterday’s win over the Arizona Cardinals may not have been pretty, but it did at least prove that their defense is for real and capable enough to win games when the offense isn’t clicking.

This week’s PFF grades offer more proof of the trend: for the first time since 2016 it’s Seattle’s defense carrying the offense. Here are 12 of the team’s best individual PFF grades from Sunday’s game.

All Studs and no Duds from Seahawks’ 20-10 win over Cards

All Studs and no Duds from Seahawks’ 20-10 win over Cards

The Seattle Seahawks took care of business at home against the visiting Arizona Cardinals. It wasn’t pretty, but the most important goal of the afternoon was achieved: win.

Seattle successfully defended home turf from the Cardinals in consecutive years for the first time since the 2010-2011 seasons. I suppose it’s only fitting the final score was 20-10 in favor of the Seahawks.

The Seahawks needed a win to keep pace with the San Francisco 49ers, and the Los Angeles Rams. Fortunately, a win by Seattle and a loss to the Steelers for the Rams helps moves the Seahawks ahead of them in the standings.

It may not have been flashy, but it was a solid win overall. For me, it was all Studs and no Duds from this game.

Before anyone asks, no, I am not putting Geno Smith in the Duds column this week. His two turnovers were bad, but he was fine if not unspectacular the rest of the game. He did move to No. 6 all time in the Seahawks passing touchdown list with his performance. Additionally, Seattle’s red zone offense is still… a work in progress. But this week, we’re going to focus on the positives.

Pete Carroll gushes over Seahawks rookie wide receivers

Together, they combined for eight catches, 124 yards and two touchdowns.

We learned a lot about the Seahawks in yesterday’s win over the Cardinals. For one thing, they have a dominant defensive unit for the first time in almost a decade. While things aren’t going great on the other side of the ball, one group you can’t blame is the wide receivers.

With DK Metcalf sitting out due to injury for the first time in his career, Seattle needed other receivers to step up. Rookies Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Jake Bobo answered the call and then some. Together, they combined for eight catches, 124 yards and two touchdowns. Here’s Pete Carroll gushing over his rookies after the game.

Week 7 is officially in the books and the Seattle Seahawks are victorious once again, following their 20-10 win over the Arizona Cardinals.

It was another typically sluggish affair between the Seahawks and the Cardinals, as it often is when these two teams meet at Lumen Field. But Seattle took care of business and grinded out the much-needed win, especially since the Los Angeles Rams lost at home to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

It may not have been pretty, but it rarely is when it comes to NFC West divisional games. Here are the biggest takeaways from the Week 7 win:
