Nebraska Football Countdown to Kickoff: No. 12 Jaidyn Doss

The countdown until August 31 is down to 12 days.

The countdown to August 31 continues on and just 12 days remain until the Nebraska Cornhuskers start their 2024 season against the University of Texas – El Paso Miners at Memorial Stadium.

With 12 days remaining until the start of the season, Huskers redshirt freshman Jaidyn Doss, a native of Kansas City, Missouri is in the spotlight.

Entering his second season with the program, Doss is entering his first full season as a defensive back after originally signing with the program as a wide receiver. Out of Raymore-Peculiar High School in Peculiar, Missouri, Doss was a three-star prospect as part of the 2023 recruiting cycle.

He signed with the Huskers over notable offers from Colorado, Illinois, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Michigan, Michigan State, Missouri, Oregon, and TCU.

This fall, Doss will look to find himself a role within the Huskers wide receiever rotation.

Nebraska countdown to kickoff profile: No. 85 Jaidyn Doss

The countdown to kickoff for the Nebraska Cornhuskers’ 2024 season is down to 85 days.

It’s another day closer to the return of Nebraska’s 2024 season, as the countdown is now down to just 85 days as the Cornhuskers and fans alike continue to prepare for their August 31 matchup against UTEP.

Today’s countdown profile highlights redshirt freshman Jaidyn Doss who is entering his second season with the program after signing with the Huskers as part of their 2023 recruiting class.

Doss was considered a consensus three-star prospect throughout the recruiting industry and chose the Huskers over offers from Colorado, Illinois, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Memphis, Michigan, Michigan State, Missouri, Oregon, and TCU.

He was also the Huskers’ first signee out of Missouri where he attended Raymore-Peculiar High School since 2017. During his high school career, he totaled over 2,000 receiving yards and finished just shy of 1,000 career rushing yards.

As a true freshman in 2023, Doss played in four games for the Huskers, maintaining his redshirt eligibility. He recorded two receptions for 20 yards in those four games.

This fall, Doss will be a part of the Huskers rotation at wide receiver but likely will have a smaller role in the offense. He’ll likely fill in behind the likes of Isaiah Neyor and Malachi Coleman in the Huskers depth chart at the wide receiver ‘z’ position.

How 2023 Husker football commits are faring so far

If the Huskers can hang onto this group of commits, the future looks bright.

Despite the loss of former head coach Scott Frost, the Nebraska Cornhuskers have 13 commits in their upcoming recruiting class. That bunch have been putting up strong numbers so far with most states’ high school football seasons just past the midway point.

Leading the way in Nebraska’s class of 2023 are 4-star recruits Omarion Miller, a 6-foot-2 wide receiver out of North Caddo (Vivian, LA) High School and Riley van Poppel, a 6-foot-4, 270-pound interior offensive lineman from Argyle (Argyle, TX) High School.

Both are ranked in the top 30 nationally at their position, according to 247 Sports, but they are far from the only future Huskers making an impact. Obviously, the world of recruiting is never 100% stable, especially after the firing of a head coach, so Mickey Joseph and the rest of the Huskers coaching staff will need to have good conversations with their commits to ensure they plan to stay.

Each recruit’s highlights and stats (if applicable and available), are listed below:

Huskers land 4-star receiver from Louisiana

Scott Frost and company received a big commitment on Tuesday afternoon.

Nebraska made huge waves on Tuesday afternoon when the Cornhuskers received the commitment from 4-star prospect Omarion Miller. The receiver from Vivian, Louisiana, is the third wideout to commit to the Huskers for the class of 2023 and will join Jaidyn Doss and Barry Jackson in Lincoln next season. When looking deeper at the 2023 recruiting class, five of the 12 recruits are in-state, with eight of the twelve playing on the offensive side of the ball.

It was just one month ago that Miller de-committed from the LSU Tigers and reopened his commitment. He was initially recruited to LSU by current Husker’s receiver coach Mickey Joseph. Miller chose Nebraska over other power five programs such as LSU, Arkansas, and Miami.

Doss will be the sixth commit to the 2023 recruiting class. He’ll also join Pierce, Nebraska native Benjamin Brahmer as the only two wideouts currently committed.

The 6″1′, 200-pound prospect has made 72 catches for 1418 yards and 19 total touchdowns in 24 games over the last two years. Doss was recruited by other Big Ten programs such as Michigan, Michigan State, and Illinois.

Pair of 2023 recruits visit Lincoln later this month

Nebraska will have a chance to impress two of their targets for the offense in the 2023 recruiting class later this month.

Nebraska has a pair of members of the 2023 recruiting class who will be visiting the Lincoln campus later this month. Wide receiver Jaidyn Doss and offensive tackle Cayden Green have both announced via social media that they will be taking official visits to Nebraska on May 22nd.

Doss is a 6’0″ 195-pound 3-star prospect out of Raymore-Peculiar High School in Peculiar, Missouri. on3.com says that Doss is currently deciding between Oregon, Kansas State, and Missouri. The Tigers are seen as the front-runner right now but just barely over Nebraska.

It’s just another example of the job wide receivers coach Mickey Joseph has done to make the Huskers consistently competitive for pass-catching talent no matter where it’s located across the country.

Cayden Green will also be visiting Lincoln, Nebraska on May 22nd. Green is a 6’5″ 310-pound offensive tackle out of Lees Summit, Missouri. The 4-star prospect is projected by on3.com the Huskers in the top two, the problem is that Oklahoma right now is seen as the runaway favorite.

It’s not the first time that either of these players has visited Nebraska as Doss visited Lincoln during the spring game on March 7th while Green made a stop on March 21st. Neither of these players looks to be in a hurry to make a decision on their future so Nebraska will just have to put their best foot forward on May 22nd and let the chips fall where they may.

Nebraska currently has five players committed to the 2023 recruiting class. They are…

  • Benjamin Bahmer   Tight End   Pierce, NE   3-star
  • Gunnar Gottula   Offensive Line   Lincoln, NE   4-star
  • Dwight Bootle   Defensive Back   Miami, FL   3-star
  • Sam Sledge   Offensive Line   Omaha, NE   3-star
  • William Watson   Quarterback   Springfield, MA   3-star
