Saints working out 2023 XFL receiving leader Jahcour Pearson

The New Orleans Saints are working out 2023 XFL receiving yards and receptions leader Jahcour Pearson

The New Orleans Saints have struggled with the wide receiver position for a few years now, especially with the injuries sustained to Michael Thomas in recent memory and now with his departure. They have made the choice to look at a potential option at the position Monday, as they work out Jahcour Pearson of the XFL per NFL insider Jordan Schultz.

Pearson was an exceptional talent through his time in the XFL (now UFL), leading the league in 2023 in receptions (60), receiving yards (670) and receptions for first downs (32), as well as earning a spot on the All-XFL team. He also has previously worked out for NFL teams, trying out for the Atlanta Falcons, Denver Broncos, Indianapolis Colts, San Francisco 49ers, and Seattle Seahawks. After the XFL and USFL merger, his contract was terminated with the now folded Seattle Sea Dragons, as he would receive a contract with the St. Louis Battlehawks after being picked second overall in phase two of the UFL dispersal draft.

He would go on to play four games in the UFL in 2024, grabbing 21 receptions for 167 yards and a touchdown as well as 6 punt returns for 65 yards. He has proven to be a quality talent at the other levels of football, including a breakout 2019 season at Western Kentucky where he had 76 receptions for 804 yards and 7 touchdowns.

Additionally, he had a good pro day back in 2022, with a 4.42 second 40-yard dash, 10-foot-1 broad jump, and 7.19 second 3-cone drill among other solid results.

We will see if Pearson ends up taking a roster spot by making the team post-workout, or if he may end up as a practice squad member to start off and works his way up through the depth chart.

Browns worked out 11 players as they search for 90th man

The Browns tried out 11 players as they look to fill out Perrion Winfrey’s roster spot

The Cleveland Browns were finally forced to release defensive tackle Perrion Winfrey after he was in the news yet again. This, however, has left them with an open roster spot as they report for training camp today.

They went out of their way to try out 11 different players yesterday as they look to fill the roster spot left by Winfrey. It started with two linebackers, but the list turned out to be much deeper.

Here are the 11 players who auditioned for Cleveland’s 90th roster spot.

With the Cleveland Browns set to start training camp this weekend, they will work out standout XFL wide receiver Jahcour Pearson for a chance to join them for camp. In 10 games this year for the Seattle Dragons, Pearson had 60 receptions for 670 yards and four touchdowns.

Pearson is an intriguing player with the elite speed to stretch the field vertically and create explosive plays. Coming out of Ole Miss Pearson ran a 4.28 40-yard dash. It will be interesting to see if the team signs him as they have already added significant talent to the wide receiver room. The first day of training camp is Saturday as the team heads for Greenbrier West Virginia.

8 players trying out at Broncos minicamp, including a kicker

The Broncos invited at least five players to try out at minicamp, including kicker Randy Bullock and running back Benny Snell.

The Denver Broncos invited at least five players to try out at mandatory minicamp this week.

We previously learned earlier this month that the club invited a pair of XFL wide receivers — Jahcour Pearson and Brandon Smith — and today, KUSA-TV’s Mike Klis reported the names of three other tryout players.

In addition to Pearson and Smith, the Broncos are also taking a look at running back Benny Snell, fullback Ryan Nall and kicker Randy Bullock.

Snell (5-10, 224 pounds) played for the Pittsburgh Steelers from 2019-2022, rushing 275 times for 982 yards and seven touchdowns in 63 games (five starts).

Nall (6-2, 245 pounds) has spent time with the Chicago Bears (2018-2022) and Dallas Cowboys (2022). He made 33 appearances for the Bears from 2019-2021. Used primarily as a blocking fullback, Nall has rushed six times for 12 yards and totaled nine receptions for 71 yards in his career.

Bullock (33) has spent time with seven NFL teams, most recently with the Tennessee Titans from 2021-2022. He has converted 83.4% of his field goal attempts in his career with a long of 57 yards.

The Broncos signed kicker Elliott Fry after cutting Brandon McManus last month, but the team plans to continue monitoring the kicker market leading up to the regular season.

Denver’s minicamp will run from Tuesday to Thursday.

Story update: Brandon Smith is not attending minicamp. Parker Gabriel of The Denver Post shared a list of the eight players trying out at camp this week and it also includes CB Darren Evans, WR Jerreth Sterns and LB Austin Ajiake.

The Denver Broncos have invited wide receiver Jahcour Pearson to try out for the team, according to the XFL’s official Twitter page.

Pearson (5-7, 178 pounds) played for the Seattle Sea Dragons this spring, leading the XFL in receptions (60) and receiving yards (670). Pearson also scored four touchdowns.

Before playing in the XFL, Pearson started his college career at Western Kentucky and he later transferred to Ole Miss. He totaled 26 receptions for 392 yards in 13 games with the Rebels in 2021.

Pearson was not selected in the 2022 NFL draft, but he was invited to rookie minicamp by the New York Jets. He also earned tryout invites from the Atlanta Falcons and Indianapolis Colts this spring.

Pearson went to rookie minicamp with the San Francisco 49ers earlier this offseason and he was also recently invited to a tryout with the Seattle Seahawks.

It’s unclear if the Broncos invited the WR to try out at organized team activities this week or at minicamp next week.

Denver will hold four days of OTAs this week followed by a three-day mandatory minicamp next week.

Colts invite XFL leading receiver to minicamp

Jahcour Pearson led all XFL players in receptions and receiving yards.

The Indianapolis Colts extended an invite to XFL star wide receiver Jahcour Pearson for a tryout during their veteran minicamp.

Pearson, who played for the Seattle Sea Dragons, led the entire XFL with 60 catches and 670 receiving yards in 10 games. He added four touchdown receptions and a league-high 32 first downs.

The Colts have never been afraid to look in deeper places for talent. Pearson, and Ole Miss product, will be joining a wide receiver room that is filled with competition, especially after adding Josh Downs in the third round of the 2023 NFL draft.

The Colts are scheduled to hold veteran minicamp June 13-15.
