Eagles place TE Jaeden Graham on Injured Reserve

Philadelphia Eagles announce that they’re placing tight end, Jaeden Graham, on Injured Reserve

The Eagles’ tight end depth took another hit as former Falcons pass catcher Jaeden Graham was placed on injured reserve.

On Wednesday, tight end Richard Rodgers was activated from the Physically Unable to Perform list. Tight end Grant Calcaterra has been sidelined with a hamstring injury.

Tight end Tyree Jackson remains on the Physically Unable to Perform list.

Philadelphia also has J.J. Arcega-Whiteside, Jack Stoll, and Noah Togiai at tight end behind Dallas Goedert.

A 6-foot-4, 250-pound tight end who played college football at Yale, Graham began his NFL career in Atlanta, signing with the Falcons following the 2018 draft.

During his time with Atlanta, Graham recorded 12 receptions for 174 yards and a touchdown on 15 total targets. He played all 32 games during the Falcons’ 2019 and 2020 campaigns. He suffered a torn ACL last August, sidelining him for the entire 2021 season.

Giants host several players for minicamp tryouts

The New York Giants have a trio of new players at minicamp who are trying out for a spot on the 90-man roster.

The New York Giants opened their mandatory three-day minicamp on Tuesday and to the surprise of many, there were a trio of new names on the field.

In a rare move, the Giants invited three players to minicamp on a tryout basis — something usually reserved for rookie minicamp. Those players were wide receivers Isaiah Ford and Keelan Doss, and tight end Jaeden Graham.

The 26-year-old Ford was originally a seventh-round pick of the Dolphins in 2017. He spent the first four seasons of his career in Miami before having a brief cup of coffee with the New England Patriots and then again returning to Miami.

In 32 career games (three starts), Ford has hauled in 63 receptions for 681 yards and two touchdowns. He’s also rushed the ball once for 11 yards and recorded one tackle.

Doss, 26, was signed by the Las Vegas Raiders as an undrafted rookie free agent out of UC Davis in 2019. He’s also made stops with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Atlanta Falcons and New York Jets, plus a second stint with the Raiders.

In nine career games (two starts), Doss has caught 11 passes for 133 yards.

The 26-year-old Graham was signed by the Atlanta Falcons as an undrafted free agent out of Yale in 2018. Over the course of 32 games (zero starts), Graham has hauled in 12 receptions for 174 yards and one touchdown. He’s also recorded nine special teams tackles.

Finally, defensive tackle Kobe Smith is also among the tryout contingent.

Falcons place Jaeden Graham on injured reserve, sign Trevor Davis

The Atlanta Falcons have placed tight end Jaeden Graham on inured reserve after suffering a knee injury.

On Wednesday, Atlanta Falcons tight end Jaeden Graham injured his knee at practice, but the team let him test it out on Thursday before placing him on injured reserve. Graham, 25, has been a good depth player who was set to have an increased role in Arthur Smith’s offense this season.

Taking his place on the roster is wide receiver Trevor Davis, who signed this morning. Drafted in the fifth round back in 2016 by the Green Bay Packers, Davis brings depth to the receiver room and is another player that’s experienced at returning both kicks and punts.

In 49 games, he’s returned 59 punts and 58 kickoffs, while racking up 16 catches for 205 yards and one touchdown.

Falcons wide receiver Calvin Ridley was given the day off from practice Thursday for rest.

Falcons 2020 draft class ranked No. 16 by NFL.com

The Atlanta Falcons’ 2020 draft class only consisted of six players, headlined by the selection of Clemson cornerback A.J. Terrell in the first round.

The Atlanta Falcons’ 2020 draft class only consisted of six players, headlined by the selection of Clemson cornerback A.J. Terrell in the first round.

Initially, very few draft analysts had good things to say about the Falcons’ draft. One year later, the class definitely looks better than originally advertised. Terrell was one of the most criticized first-round selections. While he did get off to a rocky start, Terrell went on to show all the traits of a No. 1 corner.

There’s still a lot to learn about Atlanta’s 2020 class as a whole, though. NFL.com’s rookie report card — which gives each draft class a grade and ranking — listed the Falcons at No. 16 and gave the team a “B” grade. Nick Shook complimented Terrell’s upside:

Terrell’s stat line — 74 tackles, seven passes defensed, three forced fumbles, one interception (and nearly two) — is promising. The upside with Terrell is visible; he just needs more time to hone his craft and become an effective professional corner.

The real strength of the class, as Shook puts it, is fourth-round pick Mykal Walker out of Fresno State:

Walker carries this class, earning an overall grade of 74 from PFF and an elite coverage grade of 90.7 as a rookie, giving the Falcons solid value from a fourth-round pick. He didn’t play anywhere near a full season’s worth of defensive snaps in 2020, but that’s bound to change in 2021.

However, he wasn’t as high on the rest of the draft class:

Hawkins ended up spending most of his time on special teams, though he did register a half-sack in Atlanta’s blowout win over Las Vegas. Hofrichter appeared in all 16 games and dropped 17 punts inside the opposing 20, but landed near the bottom of the league in average yards per punt.

The Falcons have hired a new general manager and coaching staff, which could potentially hurt the development of last year’s draft class. On the other hand, head coach Arthur Smith has said he is a believer in talent dictating scheme. Atlanta currently holds the No. 4 overall pick in the 2021 draft.
