Top transfer CB from Notre Dame to reportedly visit MSU this weekend

The top cornerback in the transfer portal will reportedly visit Michigan State this weekend

The top cornerback in the transfer portal will reportedly visit Michigan State this weekend.

Notre Dame transfer cornerback Jaden Mickey will reportedly visit Michigan State this weekend for the Spartans’ matchup against undefeated Indiana. Spartans insider for 247Sports Justin Thind reported the notable transfer portal news on Friday evening.

Mickey is a former four-star prospect in the 2022 class. He is currently ranked as the No. 1 cornerback and No. 5 overall prospect in the transfer portal.

Mickey played in 28 games in his three seasons at Notre Dame. He has 23 career tackles and one interception. This season, he appeared in only four games before electing to hit the transfer portal.

Cold UCLA make a run at Notre Dame transfer Jaden Mickey?

Could UCLA make a run for him?

The UCLA Bruins debut season in the Big Ten Conference has not gone well. The Bruins are 1-5 entering a Week 8 showdown against Rutgers on the road.

Nonetheless, the transfer portal is already swirling with names, including Indiana transfer Donaven McCulley, who UCLA reached out to.

Another name that could generate buzz is Notre Dame defensive back Jaden Mickey, who officially entered the portal at the beginning of October.

Moreover, Pete Nakos of On3 mentioned that one Big Ten school is in the lead early on for Mickey.

One Big Ten school leads early for Notre Dame CB transfer Jaden Mickey, @PeteNakos_ reports.”

On top of that, Tyler Horka of On3 mentioned that Mickey could move back to California.

“Mickey will likely end up closer to his home state of California, too. His mother passed away from colon cancer in late December, the night before Notre Dame’s Sun Bowl win over Oregon State.”

Mickey is from Eastvale, California, and played high school football at Centennial. The distance from Eastvale to UCLA is just 61 miles, so that could be a big selling point for the Notre Dame transfer.

As of now, it remains to be seen which Big Ten program Nakos is referring to, but UCLA could be in the running given the circumstances.

Notre Dame cornerback Jaden Mickey officially enters transfer portal

Good luck, Jaden.

One of the more notable events for Notre Dame so far this season has been about cornerback Jaden Mickey. In the days leading up to the Irish’s win over Louisville, Mickey announced he was redshirting and then entering the transfer portal. Still, he was there to support the Irish during their game.

It would be a surprise to see Mickey at any other games though. He has taken to social media to announce that he officially is in the transfer portal. As such, his time with the Irish has reached its conclusion. If you need more evidence of that, his name no longer is listed on the team’s roster on the Notre Dame athletic website.

While this obviously is a disappointment to the Irish and their fans, it serves as a reminder that players aren’t as tied to their initial college choices as they once were. That will continue to be the case unless more restrictions are placed on the transfer portal:

We wish Mickey the best in whatever comes next for him.

Watch Jaden Mickey celebrating with his former Notre Dame teammates

Mickey was fired up after the Irish’s win

News came out earlier this week that cornerback [autotag]Jaden Mickey[/autotag] will redshirt the remainder of this season and then transfer to another program.

It was a shock to the team, considering his playing time was pretty much unchanged from last year. While he no longer is taking part in any team activities, he still has plenty of love for his now former teammates.

In a video shared on social media, you can see Mickey at the edge of the tunnel giving high fives and congratulations to the currently players. Freeman said that he needed to do what was best for him, and could not get upset about the decision.

Clearly it was a hard one for Mickey, as you have to believe that he misses being in the locker room with this team. It wouldn’t surprise me to see him celebrating with everyone over the next few days.

Notre Dame cornerback will redshirt then transfer after getting his degree

We wish you well Jaden!

When the Notre Dame Fighting Irish football program signed cornerback [autotag]Jaden Mickey[/autotag], it was viewed as a massive recruiting win. Mickey was one of the best players coming out his high school class.

The California native played early during his Irish career, playing 11 games during his freshman season in 2022 and even started one of those. As a sophomore, Mickey played in every game, making two starts and getting a huge pick six against Pittsburgh.

Unfortunately, this season has not gone as planned for the junior. He has played sparingly over the first four games. Now Mickey has decided to redshirt the remainder of the year and then enter the transfer portal following the completion of his coursework within his major.

Head coach [autotag]Marcus Freeman[/autotag] announced the news during his weekly Monday press conference. Many did not see this outcome for Mickey. While it’s unfortunate he will be leaving the program, he will do so with a Notre Dame degree.

Mickey completes his Irish career with 23 tackles, three passes broken up and the interception.

We wish Jaden the best at whichever school he lands at next.

Notre Dame cornerback set to play after losing mother overnight

Go get em today, Mick.

If you follow Notre Dame football closely you’ve probably become familiar with the story of sophomore cornerback Jaylen Mickey and his mother who has been battling cancer since 2020.

Last night Nilka Mickey, known to some as Mama Mickey, succumbed to colon cancer.

News of such things is never easy to hear and only that much more difficult during the holidays.  It also makes Mickey’s pick-six against Pittsburgh where he immediately pointed to the sky upon entering the end zone feel that much more special.

Despite the news from overnight, Mickey is suited up and will play for the Irish today.

Go have a day, Mick.

Relive each Notre Dame interception against PItt right here

This past weekend was a fun one for [autotag]Notre Dame football[/autotag], they routed Pittsburgh to a tune of 58-7.

It wasn’t just the Irish offense that made its mark, it was defensively as well. Notre Dame’s defense all day was a ball hawking, forcing five turnovers, with four interceptions on the day. Three Irish defenders got a pick, [autotag]Jaden Mickey[/autotag]’s went back to the house, [autotag]Christian Gray[/autotag] and [autotag]Xavier Watts[/autotag], twice, joined in on the action as well.

Fortunately for us, NBC Sports X account, the website formerly known as Twitter, shared a short clip of all four of the interceptions for your viewing pleasure. Enjoy.

That was fun, wasn’t it?

Notre Dame corner Jaden Mickey reached an very impressive max speed on his pick-6

Mickey was flying

One of the biggest plays during [autotag]Notre Dame football[/autotag]’s win over Pittsburgh was when cornerback [autotag]Jaden Mickey[/autotag] picked off a pass and took it 43-yards to the house.

The amazing play put the Irish up 31-0 early in the third quarter, virtually sealing the game for Notre Dame. Like they do every week, [autotag]Reel Analytics[/autotag] took a look at which players hit the top max speed during Week 9 of the college football season.

One of their players they highlighted was Mickey on his return. They estimated that the Irish corner hit a max speed of 19.9 miles-per-hour, almost going as fast as you could in a school zone.

It was the first interception of Mickey’s career and a memorable one. Here’s to more plays like this one from the talented freshman.

Notre Dame football: Mickey’s pick-six about much more than just football

Notre Dame cornerback Jaden Mickey’s pick-six was a highlight but as we’ve learned, was so much bigger than just any regular touchdown

Sports have a weird way of bringing people together.  They’re not the only thing that does as concerts, movies, and plenty else can, but the way sports tend to do it is truly unique.

One such example came in Saturday’s blowout win of Pittsburgh by Notre Dame.

Fighitng Irish sophomore cornerback Jaden Mickey intercepted a Pittsburgh pass attempt and made a house call in the third quarter as Notre Dame separated from the Panthers.

Mickey’s return made it a 31-0 score just minutes into the third quarter but the scoreboard didn’t matter in this case.  That sports bond I mentioned above however did, in a big way.

Mickey mentioned after the game that his mind immediately went to one place as he approached the end zone:

“I just was picturing my mom and my dad in the living room yelling. I said, ‘My mom gotta see this.’ I’m happy it happened today.” – Jaden Mickey

Late Saturday, Inside ND Sports revealed the news that Mickey’s mother Nilka entered Hospice care earlier this fall.  She was diagnosed with stage-4 colon cancer early in 2020 and has decided to stop her chemotherapy treatments.

Notre Dame head coach shared praise of Mickey following the game.

“And so, I’m really pleased with how he performed, how he’s been practicing, how unselfish he is. I love Jaden Mickey, man. He’s a great player, and is doing great things for us.” – Marcus Freeman

Milka shared her excitement shortly after on social media as well:

Bigger than football or the scoreboard, that’s for certain.

Social media reacts to Jaden Mickey interception return for touchdown

Only one in a series of big plays for the Irish.

This listicle began as one where social media reacted to [autotag]Jadarian Price[/autotag]’s touchdown to open Notre Dame’s third-quarter scoring. Here’s the play just so we have it on the site:

But just as work was beginning on the price listicle, a little-known Irish cornerback named [autotag]Jaden Mickey[/autotag] picked off Christian Veilleux for the first interception of his collegiate career. He also turned that interception into points, returning it 43 yards to the end zone, adding onto the Irish’s growing lead over Pittsburgh:

You always have to love when the players who aren’t as known get to shine in the spotlight. Even if Mickey doesn’t become a star, he’ll at least have plays like this to look back on.

Oh, and while this was being written, [autotag]Ramon Henderson[/autotag] recovered a muffed punt in the end zone for another Irish touchdown:

We could recap all of this right now, but for our purposes, we’ll focus on the play that got most people out of their seats, and that’s the Mickey pick to the house. Here’s how social media reacted to it:
