Clemson will play host to an important visitor and the high school teammate of a current Tiger during Saturday’s spring game at Memorial Stadium.

The Clemson Insider learned late Friday that Westlake (Texas) four-star wide receiver Jaden Greathouse was on campus for an unofficial visit and to watch his former teammate at Westlake— Cade Klubnik — quarterback the White team during Saturday’s spring game.

His connection with Klubnik goes beyond the football field and they are in contact pretty frequently.

“He just said that he loves the family atmosphere and the Christianity of it all,” Greathouse said of Klubnik. “It’s a great place to be. He said he loves every part of it, so I’m just excited to see what he’s talking about.”

He’ll have the chance to see Klubnik in action on Saturday.

He told TCI back in February that while Clemson was looking for him to visit as soon as possible, his relationship with wide receivers coach and recruiting coordinator Tyler Grosham has developed immensely over the past couple of months.

“It’s developed a lot,” he said. “We’re talking almost every day and he’s a great guy. I love him and it’s awesome getting a chance to talk to him and be recruited by him.”

Greathouse — a 6-foot-1, 210-pound junior — is a consensus four-star, who ranks as the No. 12 wide receiver and No. 77 player in the nation for the class of 2023, per Rivals.

Texas receives new crystal ball projection for WR Jaden Greathouse

Texas appears to be trending for one of the state’s best wide receiver prospects.

Texas appears to be trending for one of the state’s best wide receiver prospects.

247Sports‘ Mike Roach entered a crystal ball projection for Texas to land four-star wide receiver Jaden Greathouse following his weekend visit to Austin. He is rated as the No. 17 wide receiver in the nation and the No. 19 overall player in the state of Texas.

Greathouse was seen on campus with other Texas wide receiver targets Johntay Cook and Kyle Parker.

The Austin Westlake product has accomplished about everything one could ask for in his high school career. Greathouse plays a key role in the Westlake offense, he has racked up over 3,400 receiving yards and 43 touchdowns in his three seasons. He helped guide the Chaps to three straight state championships.

The 6-foot-2 wideout was unstoppable in the 2021 state title game. Greathouse went off for 236 yards and three scores in Westlake’s victory.

Some of the state’s best wide receiver prospects are visiting Texas this weekend.

Texas has another impressive group of prospects visiting campus again this weekend, specifically at wide receiver.

Notables include four-star prospects Johntay Cook, Kyle Parker and Jaden Greathouse. The trio are some of the best pass-catchers in the state of Texas and Brennan Marion’s top priorities for the 2023 cycle.

Marion was brought on to boost recruiting and development at the position. Texas’ new assistant hit the ground running after arriving in Austin as he played a major role in signing Wyoming transfer Isaiah Neyor out of the transfer portal.

Here is a look at Cook, Parker, and Greathouse decked out in Texas gear on campus via Cook’s Instagram story.

Landing a few elite wide receivers in the class of 2023 will go a long way toward the Longhorns signing back-to-back top-five classes.

Clemson building bond with 4-star Texas WR, Klubnik’s former teammate

Clemson continues to build a relationship with freshman quarterback Cade Klubnik’s now-former high school teammate and close personal friend, Jaden Greathouse. Greathouse – a 6-1, 210-pound junior – is a consensus four-star, who ranks as the No. 12 …

Clemson continues to build a relationship with freshman quarterback Cade Klubnik’s now-former high school teammate and close personal friend, Jaden Greathouse.

Greathouse — a 6-1, 210-pound junior — is a consensus four-star, who ranks as the No. 12 wide receiver and No. 77 player in the nation for the class of 2023, per Rivals.

The Clemson Insider spoke at length with the big-time wide receiver prospect out of Westlake (Texas), who talks with Clemson wide receivers coach Tyler Grisham on a daily basis and is looking to make a trip to campus soon.

“They’re just trying to get me up for a visit as soon as possible,” Greathouse told TCI. “I’m gonna try to get up there soon and keep building that relationship.”

Greathouse still needs to work out the details of a visit to The Valley with Grisham, but his relationship with Clemson’s receivers coach and recruiting coordinator has developed immensely over the past couple of months.

“It’s developed a lot,” he said. “We’re talking almost every day and he’s a great guy. I love him and it’s awesome getting a chance to talk to him and be recruited by him.”

When Greathouse does eventually make the trip to Clemson, he’s hopeful he’ll have a chance to see the Tigers participate in spring practice(s). He wants to see the intensity of their workouts, how they work, how hard they work and see how it’s all organized.

He’ll likely also have the chance to see Klubnik in action. Their connection goes beyond the football field and they are in contact pretty frequently. With that said, what has Greathouse been hearing from the Tigers’ freshman signal-caller?

“He just said that he loves the family atmosphere and the Christianity of it all,” Greathouse said of Klubnik. “It’s a great place to be. He said he loves every part of it, so I’m just excited to see what he’s talking about.”

In addition to a potential Clemson visit, Greathouse plans on visiting Notre Dame’s spring game in April. Last month, he took visits to Oklahoma, TCU and Texas. He’s just trying to get a feel for some of these programs right now.

As far as his recruitment is concerned, things have been going at a constant pace, which has allowed him to build new relationships, like his one with Grisham. He’s keeping his options open at the moment.

Greathouse is going to take as many visits as he can, which will give him some further perspective on his recruitment and allow him to see where he’s at in the process.

This offseason, Greathouse has assumed a leadership role. He’s focused on developing Westlake’s younger guys and helping get them prepared for the upcoming season ahead. Of course, last season, he helped lead Westlake to a 16-0 record and Class 6A State Title. In doing so, he recorded 66 receptions with 1,274 yards and 20 touchdowns.

In addition to manning the point guard spot for Westlake’s basketball team, Greathouse is also participating in offseason workouts. Ahead of his senior campaign, Greathouse is focused on working on his route running, trying to create separation to make contested catches and plays going forward.

Recent wide receiver offers by the Oklahoma Sooners signal a shift in philosophy

The Sooners recent WR offers reveal a shift in philosophy on the recruiting trail.

Oklahoma has had its fair share of talented wide receivers over the years. CeeDee Lamb, Sterling Shephard, Ryan Broyles, Mark Clayton, Malcolm Kelly, Dede Westbrook, and Tommy McDonald were all stars for the Crimson & Cream. They came in different shapes and sizes, but one thing remained true: They produced year after year. They showed up and showed out for the Sooners and earned the right to be considered one of the best wide receivers in Sooners history.

The Sooners have never really had a mold for what makes a wide receiver great, which is unique.

CeeDee Lamb was a skinny rail-thin kid from Foster, Texas, that was explosive and would catch almost anything in his radius. He’d go up and get jump balls but also take a drag route to the house after 65 yards. Broyles was highly effective in the intermediate areas as a first-down conversion machine, while Dede Westbrook could take the top off any defense with his speed. Malcolm Kelly made acrobatic catch after acrobatic catch.

As we look at this current group of Sooners, we see many different types of receivers. Those are all receivers brought in and recruited by Lincoln Riley, who had no set type of build he liked at receiver. Riley was reasonably simple in evaluating his receivers. He wanted guys who could simply play. It’s hard to fault him considering what his offenses did in his time at Oklahoma, but things have changed, and he’s left the prairies for the fast life of L.A., where he coaches the Trojans of USC.

Jeff Lebby, a Sooner alum and an up-and-coming offensive coordinator in his own right, has now assumed the offensive duties of the Crimson and Cream. With him, he brings an entirely new outlook on offense and personnel.

His offense doesn’t mirror Riley’s, but the biggest contrast comes with how Lebby has attacked personnel so far.

Upon his arrival as the Sooners’ new OC, Lebby offered wide receiver, Jayden Gibson. Gibson was at the time a Florida commit, and eventually, he’d flip from Florida to Oklahoma. Gibson stands at 6-foot-4. He’s enrolled and working out as an early enrollee.

That started a significant and noticeable trend of offers being shipped out to other wide receivers of the 2023 and 2024 classes. Lebby primarily likes his receivers big with long frames.

Here’s where we can draw this conclusion: Jaden Greathouse (6-foot-2), Jalen Hale (6-foot-2), and Aidan Mizell (6-foot-3) have taken precedent over guys like DeAndre Moore Jr, who recently decommitted from the Sooners.

There’s speculation that they weren’t impressed with Moore’s junior year tape and a knee injury also played a part. While both things could be true, Moore is a top 50 talent, and they still could’ve had him in the class if they wanted due to his relationship with DeMarco Murray.

The recruitment isn’t over but casting Moore while pursuing guys like Greathouse, Ashton Cozart, and Hale signals they are content moving in a different direction.

2023 Top100 recruit Jacobe Johnson from Mustang, Okla. has also been targeted by the Sooners. Johnson stands 6-foot-3.

Lebby wants big athletes out wide and will likely get those with the pool of talent he can recruit from while at Oklahoma.

The Sooners will still recruit smaller receivers, and Lebby will use them. Just look at former Ole Miss star turned early second-rounder for the New York Jets, Elijah Moore. He was a monster for them and was no bigger than Drake Stoops. Under Lebby, Moore posted 86 catches for 1,193 receiving yards and eight touchdowns. The reception yards were the most by an SEC player through the first eight games of a season.

However, it remains painfully apparent that Lebby will recruit outside receivers with length, long speed, and big frames and fill the slot with smaller, shiftier guys.

In a way, the Sooners could resemble the Clemson teams that Venables was a part of. Lately, on offense, they had big receivers like Tee Higgins, Justyn Ross and had smaller guys like Hunter Renfrow and Armani Rodgers in the slot.

It’s a fascinating change from seeing receivers of all sizes playing all over the field for the Sooners. Still, if the recent offers are any indication, the Sooners are heading toward a “big” shift at wide receiver.

Top targets for new Texas wide receivers coach Brennan Marion

The class of 2023 features some elite talent at wide receiver.

Steve Sarkisian got his top choice for Texas’ new wide receivers coach in Brennan Marion.

Marion is widely regarded as one of the better up-and-coming coaches in college football. He was instrumental in the development of 2021 Biltnikof winner Jordan Addison at Pitt and was being courted for a few Power Five offensive coordinator jobs.

A big reason Sarkisian brought in Marion from Pittsburgh was to improve recruiting efforts at the wide receiver position.

Texas missed out on many top wideout targets like Evan Stewart, Armani Winfield, CJ Williams and a few others. The Horns did land four-star speedster Brenen Thompson but wanted to see more dominos fall their way.

Texas will have many selling points to high school pass catchers. The success of Xavier Worthy, the addition of Brennan Marion and the opportunity for early playing time, just to name a few.

The good news for Marion is the 2023 recruiting class is absolutely stacked with elite wide receiver talent.

Here is a list of some of the top-rated 2023 wide receivers Texas has made priority targets:

Clemson reaching out more to teammate of 5-star signee

Following an impressive performance in Texas’s 6A State Championship, in which he was named the game’s offensive MVP, Clemson has vamped up its interest in the teammate of a class of 2022 signee. Jaden Greathouse, a 2023 four-star wide receiver from …

Following an impressive performance in Texas’s 6A State Championship, in which he was named the game’s offensive MVP, Clemson has vamped up its interest in the teammate of a class of 2022 signee.

Jaden Greathouse, a 2023 four-star wide receiver from Austin’s (Texas) Westlake High School was in contact with Clemson wide receiver coach Tyler Grisham, as recently as this past weekend.

Greathouse is teammates with Clemson’s five-star quarterback signee Cade Klubnik. The two maintain a close relationship on and off the field, one which could continue at the next level, now that the Tigers are expressing more interest.

“With Cade [Klubnik] being committed to Clemson already, he has a good relationship with the coaches, so he’s been helping out, giving them info on me,” Greathouse told The Clemson Insider in a phone interview Monday. “So, they’ve started to reach out a little bit more.”

Greathouse is planning on sending his season highlights to Grisham in the near future and is hopeful that they’ll continue to have communication.

“I’ve been talking to Coach Grisham a little bit, here and there,” he said.

Greathouse is a strong, physical receiver who loves to watch wide receivers like Julio Jones and Davante Adams. He’s always studying their film and copying their moves to take his game to the next level.

It certainly helped for Klubnik to have a receiver of that caliber out wide.

What would it mean for Greathouse to have an opportunity to play with his close, personal friend at the next level?

“Cade’s my brother for sure,” Greathouse said. “We’ve been playing for so long and we have incredible chemistry. I’m sure that would continue at the next level.

That, of course, was on display in Westlake’s 40-21 state championship victory this past Saturday. Greathouse recorded 236 receiving yards — a Texas state championship game record — and three receiving touchdowns (62, 69 and 71 yards) in the win.

Westlake was down 14-13 to Denton Guyer at halftime, but veteran leaders like Klubnik and Greathouse never flinched. They went out there and executed, outscoring Guyer 27-7 in the second half, to secure the program’s third-straight state title victory.

“None of us were worried, we’ve been doing this for so long now,” he said. “We knew how the second half was gonna go. We just needed to go out there and execute the game plan.”

Besides Westlake’s now-former legendary head coach, Todd Dodge, there are few people better equipped to talk about the person Klubnik is on and off the field. We know how good of a player he is, but Greathouse was able to give a better look into who his friend and teammate is as a person.

“Cade’s one of the greatest people that I know,” Greathouse said. “He’s an incredible role model and an incredible leader. He’s a man of God and has a great relationship with his faith. I mean every single day he’s just looking to improve himself, help others and live the best life that he can.”

With that being said, what has Klubnik told Greathouse about Clemson?

“He loves all the coaches there,” Greathouse said. “He took a lot of time with God to help guide him in his decision and he feels very confident about it.”

As far as his own recruitment is concerned, Greathouse is hopeful that now that his junior season is over, he can start taking a lot more visits, while continuing to build relationships with all the coaches that are currently recruiting him.

What are some of the more important factors he’s looking for in a school at the next level?

“Just a place where I can get my degree and become not just a better football player, but a better man,” he said. “And hopefully, a place that’ll develop me and take me to the next level.”

Greathouse ranks as the No. 17 wide receiver and No. 106 overall prospect in this 2023 recruiting class, per the 247Sports Composite rankings. He currently holds offers from Arizona State, Arkansas, Baylor, Kansas, Oklahoma, Penn State, South Carolina, SMU, Texas, Texas A&M and West Virginia.

As mentioned before, his recruitment is wide open at the moment. There is certainly mutual interest between him and Clemson.

“My recruitment’s open to everybody and obviously, I would love to get in communication a lot more with them, start building relationships and take a visit out there,” Greathouse said.
