The Jacksonville Dolphins (1-0) meet the Florida Gators (1-0) in a Thursday tussle in Gainesville. Tip-off from the Stephen C. O’Connell Center will be at 8 p.m. ET (SEC Network). Let’s analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s college basketball odds around the Jacksonville vs. Florida odds, and make our expert college basketball picks and predictions.

Jacksonville opened with a Monday victory over Trinity Baptist (National Christian College Athletic Association DII). The Dolphins won 78-65, leveraging a big rebounding edge (47-26) and winning by double digits in the unlined contest on home hardwood.

Florida, which is No. 21 in the USA TODAY Sports Men’s Basketball Coaches Poll, also opened Monday. The Gators covered as 11.5-point favorites in a 98-85 win over South Florida. G Walter Clayton Jr. (29 points) and G Will Richard (25) combined for 54 points in the opening-night triumph for a UF team that went 24-12 last season.

Jacksonville at Florida picks and predictions

Prediction

Florida 85, Jacksonville 65

Moneyline

Lots of juice; little interest. PASS.

Against the spread

Jacksonville, which is coached by former Florida assistant Jordan Mincy, brings a veteran squad to Gainesville. Transfer talent brought in by Mincy focused on some hidden but key attributes like rebounding, ability to get to the line and defense.

UF looks to be overrated a bit in being in the top 25, and the Gators certainly had issues in their season opener. In that Monday contest, Florida trailed 40-39 at halftime and only had a 1-point lead heading into the final 10 minutes of play.

Peg the DOLPHINS +20.5 (-110) as being worth a partial-unit play on Thursday.

Over/Under

Both teams struggled from distance Monday. Jacksonville hit just 6 of 32 shots from 3-point range (18.8%); Florida hit 5 of 26 (19.2%).

It’s reasonable to expect more bench minutes for heavily-favored Florida if the Gators can act accordingly.

Look for this one to land close to the number but come up just shy. TAKE THE UNDER 152.5 (-110).

Jacksonville at Duke odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Monday’s Jacksonville at Duke odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Jacksonville Dolphins and the No. 8 Duke Blue Devils open their seasons Monday at Cameron Indoor Stadium in Durham. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET (ACC Network). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Jacksonville vs. Duke school odds, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and bets.

The Dolphins of Jacksonville roll into Cameron Indoor Stadium and will be a trivia answer: “Who was the first opponent to face Duke under new coach Jon Scheyer”?

JU is a difficult first opponent for anybody, too. The Atlantic Sun Conference’s West Division regular-season leader allowed just 59.3 points per game (PPG) last season — the 4th-best mark in the nation — while holding opponents to 39.6% from the field and 29.5% from behind the 3-point line. Both of those marks were 23rd or better in the country.

Duke lost 4 players to the 1st round of the 2022 NBA Draft, not to mention legendary coach Mike Krzyzewski. However, Scheyer, like Coach K, has simply reloaded by adding several high-profile recruits and through the transfer portal. However, two big-name recruits are dealing with injuries. C Dereck Lively (calf) is questionable to play, and SF Dariq Whitehead (foot) is out indefinitely. But this new-look Blue Devils team will still be chock full of talent.

Jacksonville at Duke picks and predictions

Prediction

Duke 69, Jacksonville 55

Moneyline

The home team should secure the victory Monday, but there’s no value on Duke (-1600) to pick up the outright win.

PASS.

Against the spread

Often times we get these early-season matchups with a high-profile team like Duke -17 (-110) and a supposed cupcake team, and everyone jumps on the name it knows.

However, JACKSONVILLE +17 (-110) is a sound play here. Coach Jordan Mincy had his team playing tremendous defense last season, and he returns 6 players from a squad that won 21 games. G Kevion Nolan wasn’t a McDonald’s All-American, but he is an experienced player that will give the high-profile Blue Devils recruits a run for their money.

Over/Under

UNDER 139.5 (-110) is the play here.

Jacksonville played lockdown defense last season, and it is extremely deliberate on offense, using the shot clock to its fullest. In fact, JU will likely remind a lot of Blue Devils faithful of ACC team Virginia in the way it handles itself.

Duke has a lot of high-profile incoming talent, but it usually takes some time for even big-time recruits to jell in game situations. Jacksonville actually has more experience playing together, and it will show early on, as JU dictates the tempo somewhat.
