Lady Vols to host UNC Greensboro on Sunday

The Lady Vols will play UNC Greensboro on Sunday at Thompson-Boling Arena.

It did not take the Lady Vols basketball team long to find a replacement game.

Tennessee, which was originally scheduled to host Jackson State on Sunday, will now have a home game against UNC Greensboro.

The Spartans will replace Jackson State on the Lady Vols’ schedule. Jackson State had to cancel the game due to COVID-19 concerns. That game was scrubbed Friday morning.

The game against the Spartans will tip off at noon EST at Thompson-Boling Arena on Sunday.

UNC Greensboro enters Sunday’s game with a 1-6 record. The Spartans lost to Elon, 58-40, in its last outing Friday.

The Lady Vols (4-1) outlasted No. 15 Indiana, 66-58, in Bloomington on Thursday.

Deion Sanders seeking help finding a home in Jackson, MS

Deion Sanders took to social media seeking help in finding a home in Jackson, Mississippi.

The hard work hasn’t started on the field for Deion Sanders at Jackson State. The Pro Football Hall of Fame DB has another problem, though.

He needs a place to call home and Prime Time has some specific requests.

We’re sure there are plenty of people — realtors?? — who will be more than happy to help Sanders get settled in accommodations to his liking.

Right?

Deion Sanders refutes report that his Jackson State staff includes Terrell Owens, Warren Sapp

So much for that.

Deion Sanders’ coaching career at Jackson State University began with a whole bunch of fanfare and attention, with the Hall of Famer making the grandest of entrances into his opening press conference on Monday.

On Tuesday, there was another ripple through social media, with a report from WLTX’s Joe Cook, who said sources told him that Sanders’ staff would include fellow NFL legends Terrell Owens as his wide receivers coach and Warren Sapp coaching the defensive line.

It had everyone buzzing and hoping for a reality show camera crew to come to practices and film all the drama that could pop up with the three of them at the helm.

But Sanders himself took to Twitter not long after that tweet to deny it was true.

Alas. What fun that would have been. For now, enjoy his entrance from Monday:

Today is Tuesday, which brings us yet another day closer to the opening of the Florida Gators’ 2020 SEC-only football schedule this Saturday against Ole Miss. In the meantime, there is plenty to keep us occupied in the news from around the league and around the nation.

The top story today is the adjusted bowl predictions college sports editor Erick Smith put together for USA TODAY Sports now that the Big Ten is officially back in the fold. The Ohio State Buckeyes are the biggest beneficiary of the re-rankings.

In other news, former Florida State Seminoles and NFL standout Deion Sanders aims to “look good while we win'” at Jackson State. Monday, Sanders was dressed in blue and sporting a Jackson State hat as he addressed a crowd spread out for social distancing, made smaller by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Report: Deion Sanders to be a candidate for Jackson State head coaching job

Jackson State needs a head coach and it might have eyes for Hall of Famer Deion Sanders.

Deion Sanders is making moves off the field the way he used to as “Prime Time.” an NFL Hall of Famer.

Weeks after leaving NFL Network for Barstool Sports, comes a report the great defensive back and kick return will be a candidate for the just-opened head coaching position at Jackson State.

Per Football Scoop:

Deion Sanders is expected to be a candidate to become the next head coach at Jackson State, sources told FootballScoop on Monday.

Jackson State dismissed head coach John Hendrick earlier today, along with most of his staff. Offensive coordinator TC Taylor, retained from the previous staff, is also a candidate for the job, sources say.

The Tigers are not playing this fall along with the rest of the SWAC.

Sanders has spoken about wanting to coach in the past.

“I’m going to be a head coach in college football next year,” he said in a live appearance on Dan Patrick’s radio show at the Super Bowl. “I’m that definite. I’m that assured that I am.”

“This is something that is my calling,” he said later in the interview. “I’m going to coach college football. Head coach, not coach. Head coach.”

Jackson State manager ‘Snacks’ might have a new nickname thanks to Kevin Durant

The Nets superstar tweeted about the viral star.

Jackson State Tigers student manager Thomas Lee — known to many as “Snacks” — became a viral sensation on Tuesday when he put on a uniform and checked into the team’s senior night game against UAPB.

He hit a shot from looooong distance, and Tigers fans, the announcers and just about everyone else went nuts. And as they should, because student managers hitting shots is always a terrific moment.

The love and praise has come from far and wide. He was named the SWAC men’s basketball player of the week … and none other than Kevin Durant — who hasn’t been tweeting as much as he usually does lately — commented:

Snacks could turn into Snipe?

“It’s in the mix,” Lee told ESPN.

By the way, where did his nickname come from in the first place? From that story:

He became Jackson State’s team manager in 2015. Shortly after arriving, he started to bring Skittles and other candy to the locker room. Since he was the new guy and some of the players didn’t know his name, they just started to call him “Snacks.”

As for his reaction to the moment he’ll never forget, here’s what he told the Clarion Ledger:

“In my mind, I felt like I was on top of the world,” Lee said. “It did not feel real that I scored in an actual Division I basketball game.”
