Deion Sanders, Jackson State throttle Southern, run mark to 12-0

Deion Sanders and Jackson State capture the SWAC Championship by downing Southern

It is back-to-back SWAC Championships and Celebration Bowl invitations for Jackson State.

The question after Saturday’s 43-24 victory over Southern in the conference championship game is whether Deion Sanders will coach the Tigers in the Celebration Bowl.

First things first, Sanders and Jackson State are 12-0 after forcing 5 Jaguars turnovers and putting forth a strong offensive showing.

Sanders’  Tigers rushed to a 26-0 lead in the first quarter and any mystery of the outcome was pretty much erased.

Quarterback Shedeur Sanders, Deion’s son, threw for 327 yards and 4 touchdowns, including a pair to Shane Hooks.

Jackson State forced three interceptions and recovered 2 fumbles.

Awaiting at the Celebration Bowl on December 17 is a 9-2 North Carolina Central team that has won four in a row.

However, Deion Sanders has said he will make a decision about his coaching future, possibly as soon as Sunday. ESPN reported on Friday that Sanders is practically, signed and sealed to go to the University of Colorado.

In 32 games at Jackson State, Deion Sanders is 27-5.

Deion Sanders and Jackson State were rolling in the SWAC Championship

If this is to be Deion Sanders’ last game as head coach at Jackson State, the Tigers are sending “Prime Time” out in style.

Jackson State was devouring Southern in Saturday’s SWAC Championship.

Shedeur Sanders had thrown 3 TD passes midway through the second quarter and the Tigers were up 33-7 as they looked to complete a 12-0 season.

Of course, hovering over the game were reports that Deion Sanders planned to take the head coaching job at the University of Colorado, possibly as soon as Sunday.

Travis Hunter with pick-six for Deion Sanders, Jackson State

Travis Hunter with a pick-six for Jackson State against Alcorn State

Travis Hunter’s decision to attend Jackson State shook college football.

The elite recruit had a slow start to his career as a Tiger due to some injuries but he is rounding into form.

On Saturday, as Jackson state faced Alcorn State in SWAC play, Hunter picked off a pass and returned it 44 yards for a touchdown.

Jackson State is looking to close out its regular season with an 11-0 mark.

Hunter’s coach, Sanders, knows plenty about pick-sixes from his iconic career.

Alabama Women’s Soccer receives a No. 1 seed in NCAA tournament

No. 1 Alabama women’s soccer hosts first NCAA tournament game Friday

The Alabama Crimson Tide women’s soccer has received a No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament, and as a result, the team will have its first game in Tuscaloosa.

The Tide will host Jackson State, the winners of the SWAC, who are 11-7-1 on the year at 6 p.m. CST on Friday.

Alabama finishes the year 19-2-1, including a 15-game winning streak that earned the Tide the No. 1 ranking in the country. Alabama lost to the South Carolina Gamecocks in the SEC championship snapping the streak.

South Carolina is the No. 3 team in Alabama’s region along with No. 2 Duke and No. 4 USC. So, there is a chance the Tide and Gamecocks meet again in the Elite Eight.

If Alabama can get past Jackson State on Friday they will face the winner of Arizona State vs. Portland in the second round.

Deion Sanders, Jackson State stand 8-0 after blanking Southern

Deion Sanders and Jackson State with another impressive victory

ESPN’s College GameDay stopped by Jackson State on Saturday before the Tigers’ rivalry game with Southern.

Deion Sanders’ team went out and put on another clinic, thrashing the Jaguars, 35-0. The win improved the Tigers to 8-0 over and 5-0 in SWAC play.

The game was stopped for a weather delay early in the fourth quarter but it mattered not as Jackson State added a final touchdown when it resumed.

Shedeur Sanders threw for 194 yards and a touchdown. The coach’s son also ran for 2 scores.

Sy’Veon Wilkerson ran for 96 yards, including a 26-yard TD run.

The Jackson State defense allowed 85 passing yards and 221 total yards.

Up next for Coach Sanders’ team is Texas Southern.

ESPN College GameDay makes picks for top matchups of Week 9

College GameDay experts predict today’s top games!

Week 9 of the college football season is upon us, and while the Crimson Tide are on the bye week, there are still plenty of entertaining games this weekend. I think all Alabama fans will secretly admit they are relieved to have a stress-free weekend ahead of two monumental games against LSU and Ole Miss.

Across the country though, Kentucky and Tennessee meet in a huge showdown in the SEC East today while Penn State and Ohio State battle for a position in the Big Ten Championship Game.

College GameDay was live from Jackson State today for the showdown with Southern! As always, the GameDay experts predict the key matchups of the day and decide who the winners are.

The numbers below are not the predicted score, but rather how many experts on the panel picked that respective team.

ESPN College GameDay makes their picks for week 9 including Notre Dame at Syracuse

Who do you think wins the biggest matchups this weekend?

The mouth of ESPN is set to join ESPN College GameDay in Jackson, Mississippi to “see me make my picks,” as he so eloquently put it. Stephen A. Smith, one of the biggest personalities in all of sports media, will join the picking crew of Kirk Herbsteit, Desmond Howard, and Pat McAfee to select their winners of week 9 from the campus of Jackson State ahead of their HBCU contest against Southern.

Alabama State’s Eddie Robinson Jr. brushes off Deion Sanders after Jackson State win

Deion Sanders and Eddie Robinson Jr. had a heated moment after Jackson State downed Alabama State

Deion Sanders’ handshake with Alabama State coach Eddie Robinson Jr. turned nasty after the Tigers’ 26-12 road victory on Saturday.

Sanders, whose team is now 5-0 and 3-0 in the SWAC, walked across the field to exchange handshakes.

However, when he went to deliver a warmer greeting Robinson Jr. brushed off Sanders and turned and walked away.

Sanders was caught off-guard by the moment.

Al.com offered a couple of reasons Robinson Jr. could have been miffed.

Sanders made a comment this week suggesting that Alabama State would regret scheduling his team for homecoming, which could have been why Robinson reacted the way he did.

However, it also appeared Jackson State tried to score late with the game in hand.
Jackson State forced an Alabama State punt with 1:06 remaining in the game. On first down from the Jackson State 33, J.P. Andrade threw a pass, which was broken up by Mikey Victor. Two more runs plays gained 25 yards before the game ended.

Deion Sanders talks about potential Jackson State-Alabama matchup

Deion Sanders spoke about the possibility of a future matchup against the Crimson Tide, but that Jackson State isn’t ready quite yet.

Deion Sanders is entering his third year with the Jackson State football program, and to say he has turned things around would be an understatement. During the Tigers 2021 campaign, Sanders led them to an 11-2 record, the team’s first winning season since 2013.

Not only are the Tigers succeeding on the field, but off of it as well. They have dominated the recruiting game and landed the No. 1 overall recruit in the country, Travis Hunter. Sanders and Jackson State have everything going for them.

Yet, when asked about a potential matchup with the Crimson Tide Sanders said, “We’re not ready for that, we’re not into sacrificing our kids for a check.”

Sanders elaborated and said that he still needs time to improve his offensive line and defensive line before he can truly compete. He believes that the skill positions are similar, but the biggest difference is the line play on both sides of the ball.

If Jackson State and Sanders continue on this path, there may be a day when we see the two legends lined up across the sideline.

Shannon Sharpe calls out Nick Saban for singling out Deion Sanders, Jackson State

The Hall of Fame tight end did not hold back when discussing Nick Saban’s comments.

Alabama head football coach Nick Saban has been taking plenty of heat for comments he recently made at a World Games event in Birmingham regarding the state of college football and the impact name, image, likeness (NIL) has had on recruiting.

His comments, while brief, called out multiple programs by name for allegedly enticing players to join their respective programs with lucrative NIL deals.

By now, it seems like everyone has seen the back-and-forth Saban and Texas A&M head coach Jimbo Fisher had.

However, Jackson State head coach Deion Sanders also stepped up and responded to the implied comment of how Travis Hunter landed at the HBCU program after having been committed to Florida State.

Former NFL tight end and member of the Pro Football Hal of Fame, Shannon Sharpe, recently called out Saban on his show with Skip Bayless, Undisputed.

He questions why Saban has a hard time believing a player would want to go to Alabama, but not Jackson State.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow along as more people react to Saban’s NIL comments.
