Jack Gohlke scores 3-pointer in summer league debut for OKC Thunder

Jack Gohlke scores 3-pointer in summer league debut for OKC Thunder.

One of the highlights of the Oklahoma City Thunder’s stay in Utah for summer league was the pro debut of Oakland’s Jack Gohlke.

The 24-year-old became a household name after he led Oakland to an upset win over Kentucky in the NCAA Tournament. He went undrafted but signed with the Thunder on their SL roster.

In his sole season at Oakland, Gohlke averaged 10.3 3-point attempts. 364 of his 372 attempts were from deep.

In the Thunder’s blowout win over the Utah Jazz, Gohlke checked in for the final four minutes and nailed his lone 3-point attempt.

Gohlke’s sole bucket occurred after he slid to a sidestep 3-pointer. A pump-fake had Kyle Filipowski in the air and the undrafted rookie splashed in the outside shot. It was about as perfect as a first bucket anybody could’ve dreamed of.

The 24-year-old will likely see more action as summer league progresses. He’ll make an otherwise forgettable second half of SL into must-watch television.

March Madness breakout star Jack Gohlke hit his very first NBA 3-pointer in Summer League

March Madness star Jack Gohlke officially made his NBA Summer League debut in style.

After winning over the basketball world during this year’s March Madness, former Oakland star Jack Gohlke scored his first 3-pointer in the NBA during Summer League competition on Tuesday night.

Gohlke is playing with the Oklahoma City Thunder this summer, trying to make his best impression on the organization to stick around for the future.

Although it came late in the Summer League contest against the Utah Jazz, Gohlke nailed a fantastic 3-pointer that reminded you of his March Madness heroics.

While we’re not sure just yet if Gohlke will be able to stick around with the Thunder on its G League team, it’s so cool to see him playing in the NBA in the first place after taking the spotlight this past March.

OKC Thunder announces 2024 Summer League roster

OKC Thunder announces 2024 Summer League roster.

The Oklahoma City Thunder have announced their 2024 summer league roster on Sunday. They will play at least seven games from July 8-19. They could play as late as July 22 if they qualify for the event’s playoffs.

OKC will participate in the Salt Lake City summer league from July 8-10 and the traditional Las Vegas summer league from July 13-19 at the very least. The full schedule for both events can be read here.

Blue head coach Kam Woods will lead the Utah squad while Blue assistant Daniel Dixon will lead the Vegas squad.

The 18-player roster is filled with third-year vets, two-way players, rookies, undrafted free agents and G League players. The full Thunder summer league roster is:

Ousmane Dieng and Dillon Jones headline the roster. The former will participate in his third straight summer league. The latter headlines OKC’s rookie class among healthy players.

Keyontae Johnson is also another notable name on the roster. He had his rights renounced by the Thunder recently, which makes him an unrestricted free agent. This came after a redshirt rookie campaign last year as the 24-year-old spent most of the season in the G League.

The Thunder’s top rookie Nikola Topic is left off this summer’s event. The 18-year-old slid to the No. 12 spot as he recovers from a partially torn ACL.

Report: OKC Thunder sign Oakland’s Jack Gohlke to summer league roster

Report: OKC Thunder sign Oakland’s Jack Gohlke to summer league roster.

The Oklahoma City Thunder have signed Oakland’s Jack Gohlke to a non-guaranteed deal for their summer league squad, per RookieWire’s Cody Taylor.

He was an undrafted rookie from the 2024 NBA draft and had a predraft workout for OKC.

The 24-year-old spent five seasons in Division II from 2018-23 before transferring to Oakland for his last college season last year. He led the Golden Grizzlies to an upset win in March Madness over Kentucky.

In 36 games last season, Gohlke averaged 13.1 points on 37.9% shooting, 4.1 rebounds and 1.1 assists. He shot 37.6% from 3 on 10.1 attempts. At 6-foot-3, 215 pounds, he has good size for a guard/forward combo.

He’ll be a fun player to watch in a summer league environment. He’s not afraid to let it fly from deep. If he’s lights out, he has a decent shot to join the G League’s OKC Blue for next season.

Oakland’s Jack Gohlke to have predraft workout with Thunder

Oakland’s Jack Gohlke to have predraft workout with Thunder.

The calendar has flipped to June, which means NBA teams are intensifying their predraft process and hosting players for workouts and visits. The 2024 NBA draft will take place from June 26-27.

The Oklahoma City Thunder enter this year’s class with a sole draft pick of the No. 12 selection. OKC was gifted the free lottery pick via the Houston Rockets.

The Thunder will host several meetings with draft prospects in the coming weeks. This includes players outside the lottery range as OKC will likely seek to add undrafted free agents or even buy back into the second round if it likes someone enough.

One possibility is Oakland’s Jack Gohlke. He is set to have a predraft workout with the Thunder.

The 24-year-old spent five seasons in Division II from 2018-23 before transferring to Oakland for his last college season last year. He led the Golden Grizzlies to an upset win in March Madness over Kentucky.

Gohlke will likely be an undrafted free agent target. He has a shot to join the Thunder’s summer league squad and possibly be added to the G League’s OKC Blue for next season if he impresses enough.

Jack Gohlke revealed his beautiful, sad message for his Oakland teammates after their heartbreaking March Madness loss

Jack Gohlke had a beautiful message for his Oakland teammates after the loss to NC State.

We got just two games from Oakland in 2024 March Madness, but we’ll never forget Jack Gohlke joining the all-time great performances from players who emerge in the men’s NCAA tournament.

He made a tourney record for threes in just two games. He hit a full-court shot during practice. And while he ended up with some NIL deals thanks to his run, the focus is on his teammates, at least when it came to what we heard on the podium after Saturday’s loss to NC State.

Gohlke said he told his teammates — who really wanted to move on to the next round, of course — “the thing I wanted the most, really, was to see everyone at practice on Monday. That’s the thing I’ll miss the most.”

Beautiful, and sad.

Jack Gohlke set an NCAA tournament record for 3-pointers two games into March Madness

Jack Gohlke made March Madness history in just two games

The Jack Gohlke Experience will no longer just be remembered as a fun March Madness subplot. It will now officially go into the NCAA record books.

After his breakout performance with 10 3-pointers in No. 14 Oakland’s first-round upset of No. 3 Kentucky on Thursday — which earned the guard an NIL deal with TurboTax — Gohlke poured in another six 3-pointers on Saturday against in a 79-73 overtime loss to No. 11 NC State.

That gave Gohlke the most 3-pointers through two games in NCAA history with 16 — and some of them were just absolutely ridiculous. Even those who were betting on an Gohlke to hit an extremely unlikely 2-pointer had to be impressed.

The Oakland Golden Grizzlies run may be over, but we’ll remember them as another reason March is the best month in sports.

Jack Gohlke’s Oakland teammates teased him with State Farm jingle after post suggested he’s destined to sell insurance

Like a good 3-point shooter, Jack Gohlke is there.

Oakland basketball has been one of the best stories of the 2024 men’s NCAA tournament so far, with guard Jack Golhe the breakout star for the Golden Grizzlies.

The 3-point maestro has already landed an NIL deal with TurboTax after his stellar performance against Kentucky on Thursday night, one that the graduate student standout emphasized is not a Cinderella story and much more a team being deserving of where they are in the postseason.

Oakland coach Greg Kampe said in a broadcast interview on Saturday that, during a team meal, Gohlke’s teammates poked fun at him for an alleged social media post that insinuated that, despite the team’s upset win, Kentucky’s players were headed to the NBA and Gohlke was headed to selling insurance.

How did they do it? According to Kampe, they sang him the “Like a good neighbor…” State Farm jingle from the commercials, which made Gohlke smirk and shake his head once his coach referenced it.

Gohlke’s outstanding March Madness debut no doubt caught the eyes of some NBA scouts, so we wouldn’t be shocked if he at least got an invite to participate in a rookie camp after shocking the world against real NBA draft prospects.

Even if this is the conclusion to his basketball career, he’ll live eternal in tournament history for helping Oakland achieve one of the tournament’s great upsets.

Jack Gohlke’s NIL deal with TurboTax is even more perfect than you thought

Jack Gohlke has been prepping for this endorsement for years

Jack Gohlke is getting the full March Madness treatment after his star performance in No. 14 Oakland’s upset of No. 3 Kentucky featured 10 3-pointers.

In the NIL era, that means he’s already getting endorsement deals and filming commercials at the team hotel in between practice, media appearances and prep for Saturday’s second round game against No. 11 NC State.

Up first is a deal with TurboTax, which makes complete sense since we’re in the middle of tax filing season. Gohlke filmed an admittedly low-budget, but high-comedy ad in what looks like the team hotel ballroom.

But there’s one simple reason his TurboTax deal is even more perfect than it looks on first glance: Gohlke already has his degree in accounting.

Good for Gohlke getting his money — and even better that he can figure out all the tax implications himself without having to ask his new sponsor for help.

Oakland star Jack Gohlke hit a ridiculous full-court shot during March Madness practice

Jack Gohlke isn’t done hitting absurd shots from long range.

Oakland Golden Grizzlies star guard Jack Gohlke became a household name overnight.

Gohlke’s 32 points on 10 of 20 shooting (all threes) led 14-seeded Oakland to the biggest upset of the tournament so far against coach John Calipari’s three-seeded Kentucky Wildcats and the sharpshooter isn’t done showing off his skills yet.

He’s no stranger to hitting long balls, as only eight of his field goals made this season came from within two-point range, and while practicing on Friday ahead of Saturday’s second-round game against N.C. State, Gohlke demonstrated his range to an impressive extent.

Standing near the far baseline, he netted what was essentially a full-court heave as his teammates watched in awe.

The graduate student from Pewaukee, Wisconsin, spent the first five years of his career at Division II Hillsdale College in Michigan before joining Oakland for his final season of eligibility.

The 24-year-old said after the upset that he knows he won’t be playing in the NBA, but with the stunning win over Kentucky — which marked the Golden Grizzlies’ first in the round of 64 in program history — Gohlke’s collegiate career extends for at least a few more days.
