Auburn announces depth chart for game against Ole Miss

Auburn will keep the starting lineup the same for their Week 8 matchup with Ole Miss.

After a two week break, Auburn is set to return to Jordan-Hare Stadium to take on the Ole Miss Rebels. The Tigers are looking to snap a three-game losing streak and they have announced their depth chart for the game.

The Tigers have had to make several changes over the past weeks due to injury but that is not the case this week. The only change on the offense was removing the OR between quarterbacks [autotag]Robby Ashford[/autotag] and [autotag]Holden Geriner[/autotag] as backup to [autotag]Payton Thorne[/autotag].

Ashford has seen plenty of action as [autotag]Hugh Freeze[/autotag] and offensive coordinator [autotag]Philip Montgomery[/autotag] have used Ashford and Thorne in a two-quarterback system. Grenier has attempted just nine passes and was clearly behind Ashford.

Auburn also made some adjustments to the depth chart on defense, [autotag]Champ Anthony[/autotag] is now the backup at star instead of [autotag]J.D. Rhym[/autotag]. In a corresponding move, Anthony is no longer listed as a backup at boundary cornerback, leaving Rhym as the only reserve.

Here is a look at the full depth chart.

Auburn adjusts depth chart for Week 5 after injuries

Auburn has announced its depth chart for their matchup with Georgia.

Auburn has revealed its depth chart for its Week 5 game against the Georgia Bulldogs and has once again made some slight changes due to an injury.

With [autotag]Keionte Scott[/autotag] still out, Auburn has named a new starter at both star and punt returner. [autotag]Donovan Kaufman[/autotag] has been elevated to starter at star and [autotag]J.D. Rhym[/autotag] is now listed as his backup.

While [autotag]Jaylin Simpson[/autotag] was listed as the top punt returner last week, [autotag]Koy Moore[/autotag] was used and has been put as the starter for this week with Simpson as his backup.

Here is a look at the full depth chart ahead of Auburn’s game against Georgia Saturday.

Notes from Auburn’s win over Samford

Payton Thorne and Jaylin Simpson had key performances Saturday night.

Auburn’s passing attack came alive in Auburn’s 45-13 win over Samford Saturday night in Jordan-Hare Stadium.

The coaching staff made a concerted effort to try to have success through the air and it worked like a charm. [autotag]Payton Thorne[/autotag] threw for 282 yards and one touchdown and connected with 10 different receivers. He was also Auburn’s top rusher, ending the day with 123 yards and two scores on the ground.

His top target was [autotag]Jay Fair[/autotag], who hauled in six passes for 97 yards and looks to have separated himself as Auburn’s top wideout.

Auburn’s defense continues to excel at creating turnovers as [autotag]Jaylin Simpson[/autotag] and [autotag]J.D. Rhym[/autotag] both picked off passes to set up the offense in Samford territory.

Here are some note-worthy stats and accomplishments from the game.

Report Card: Grading Auburn’s win over Samford

Most of Auburn’s units graded out very well.

Auburn (3-0) made some mistakes but they were able to take down Samford 45-13 Saturday in Jordan-Hare Stadium.

While they should have scored more, it was a strong showing by Auburn and particularly [autotag]Payton Thorne[/autotag]. He did have two of Auburn’s three turnovers but he showcased his athleticism and looked in command of the offense.

The defense shut down the Samford offense outside of two drives, one started deep in Auburn territory and the other was once the game was already in hand. The defensive backs continue to be turnover machines as [autotag]Jaylin Simpson[/autotag] and [autotag]J.D. Rhym[/autotag] both recorded interceptions.

Here is a look at how every unit graded out.

Depth Chart Overview

Rhym broke through the rotation as a freshman and despite missing time in spring, he should once again be a key member of the rotation at corner. With [autotag]D.J. James[/autotag] and [autotag]Nehemiah Pritchett[/autotag] locking down the starting spots, he will form the second wave with [autotag]Kayin Lee[/autotag] and [autotag]Champ Anthony[/autotag] and should see plenty of action.

Cornerback J.D. Rhym expected to miss the rest of spring practice

He appeared in 12 games as a true freshman.

Auburn will be without one of its cornerbacks for the rest of spring practice according to [autotag]Hugh Freeze[/autotag].

Freeze announced on Monday that sophomore cornerback [autotag]J.D. Rhym[/autotag] just got out of a brace and is expected to miss the final two weeks of spring practice with an undisclosed injury.

“I don’t think he’ll be a part of the rest of spring ball,” Freeze told Tom Green of AL.com. “I think it will be after that before he’s released to get back with us.”

The 6-foot-1, 184-pound Rhym appeared in 12 games as a true freshman, making 14 tackles and defending one pass. He primarily played nickel.

The Valdosta, Georgia native was a four-star recruit in Auburn’s 2022 recruiting class and was the Tiger’s second-highest-ranked signee.

Auburn’s spring practice will come to a close on April 8 with the annual A-Day game in Jordan-Hare Stadium. It will be streamed on ESPN+ and SEC Network+ or fans can purchase a ticket for $10.
