Cardinals’ QB coach to coach QBs in Senior Bowl

Israel Woolfork, the Cardinals’ QB coach, will be the position coach for Bo Nix, Micael Penix and Sam Hartman at the Senior Bowl.

The Arizona Cardinals will not likely be looking to draft a quarterback in 2024 but they will have an up-close look at some quarterback prospects.

Cardinals quarterbacks coach Israel Woolfork will be the position coach at the Senior Bowl for the National team.

The quarterbacks on the National team are Notre Dame’s Sam Hartman, Oregon’s Bo Nix and Washington’s Michael Penix.

The Senior Bowl, played each year in Mobile, Alabama, is considered the best of the college all-star games. Traditionally featuring seniors, this year the Senior Bowl can have draft-eligible underclassmen.

NFL teams use the game and the three practices leading up to it for evaluation purposes, as it gives players the opportunity to face quality one-on-one competition.

This year’s Senior Bowl kicks off Saturday, Feb. 3 at 1 p.m. ET from Hancock Whitney Stadium in Mobile. It will air on NFL Network.

Cardinals expected to hire Israel Woolfork as QB coach

He will follow new Cardinals OC Drew Petzing from the Browns.

The Arizona Cardinals have announced Drew Petzing, formerly the quarterbacks coach for the Cleveland Browns, as their new offensive coordinator under new head coach Jonathan Gannon.

They are taking another coach from the Browns for their offensive staff.

According to CBS Sports’ Josina Anderson, Petzing wanted to bring Israel Woolfork to Arizona and he will to be their quarterbacks coach.

This will be Woolfork’s first official NFL coaching job.

He was at Miami University from 2013-2021 as a graduate assistant, running backs coach and wide receivers coach.

In the 2021 offseason, he was selected as a Bill Walsh Coaching Fellow to work with the Browns, assisting with tight ends. The Bill Walsh Coaching Fellow is something NFL teams offer each offseason to minority coaches.

This past season, he was the Brown’s second-ever recipient of the Bill Willis Coaching Fellowship, working on offense. This fellowship is similar to the Cardinals’ Bill Bidwill Coaching Fellowship, which creates an opportunity for rising minority coaches.

Woolfork was given permission to join the Cardinals’ staff.

He will now work with Kyler Murray, Colt McCoy and anyone else the Cardinals might bring in at the position this offseason.

Browns staffer Israel Woolfork following Drew Petzing to join Cardinals

The former Browns QB coach is now poaching staffers to join him in Arizona.

It has been a massive staffing day for the Cleveland Browns. Not only did they fire special teams coordinator Mike Priefer, but they have also already reportedly found his replacement. They have also added a new safeties coach to their defensive staff in the form of Utah State defensive coordinator Ephraim Banda. It does not stop there, however, as former quarterbacks coach Drew Petzing is poaching a staffer from Cleveland as he takes over as the offensive coordinator of the Arizona Cardinals. Staffer Israel Woolfork is leaving the Browns to become the new quarterbacks coach of the Cardinals under new head coach Jonathan Gannon.

Despite filling a few holes on their staff, the Browns still have a handful more to go.
