UFC 287: Alex Pereira vs. Israel Adesanya odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s UFC 287 odds and lines between Alex Pereira and Israel Adesanya, with MMA picks, tips and predictions.

In a middleweight championship bout in the main event, Alex Pereira and Israel Adesanya meet at UFC 287 at Kaseya Center in Miami. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the UFC 287: Pereira vs. Adesanya odds, and make our expert picks and predictions.

The early prelims are on ESPN+ at 6 p.m. ET, while the prelims can be viewed on ESPN/ESPN+ at 8 p.m. ET. The main card begins at 10 p.m. on Pay-Per-View.

Pereira takes the walk looking to protect the middleweight strap that he earned by posting a 5th-round KO/TKO at UFC 281 against Adesanya in November. He has won 3 of his 4 matchups since arriving at the UFC level, including 3 via knockout.

Pereira has a 5.23-to-3.93 significant strikes landed per minute advantage and has posted a 67.49% significant strikes accuracy percentage in his 4 bouts in the UFC.

Adesanya has dropped 2 of his past 5 fights after starting his professional career an impressive 20-0. When Pereira dropped him at Madison Square Garden last time out, it was the first time “The Last Stylebender” has been knocked out. The stoppage snapped a 4-bout streak of unanimous-decision finishes.

We’ve never seen Adesanya lose consecutive fights at any point during his professional career. However, Pereira used a combination of punishing calf kicks and tremendous punching power to turn the tide in the first matchup.

UFC 287: Pereira vs. Adesanya picks and predictions

Records: Pereira (7-1-0) | Adesanya (23-2-0)

Fight result (2-way line or moneyline)

The middleweight division is in good hands with Pereira and Adesanya at the top of the charts.

ADESANYA (-135) is the play on the 2-way line in Miami, as he looks to regain his strap. A win here likely sets up a trilogy fight.

Look for Stylebender to defend against the calf kicks much better, as he tries to keep Pereira at more of a distance. Adesanya will go back to basics, looking to keep his opponent at arm’s length, while wowing the judges with his technique.

Over/Under (O/U)

Looking to METHOD OF VICTORY: ADESANYA BY DECISION/TECHNICAL DECISION (+175) is a solid play for a chance to nearly double up.

If you don’t want to declare a winner, playing HOW WILL THE FIGHT FINISH? DECISION (+110) is also a value play.

There isn’t a lot of value in playing Over 2.5 Rounds (-225), as it will cost you more than 2 times your potential return.

UFC 281: Israel Adesanya vs. Alex Pereira odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s UFC 281 odds and lines between Israel Adesanya and Alex Pereira, with MMA picks, tips and predictions.

In a middleweight championship bout in the co-main event, Israel Adesanya and Alex Pereira meet Saturday at UFC 281 at Madison Square Garden in New York. Let’s analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the UFC 281: Adesanya vs. Pereira odds, and make our expert picks and predictions.

The early prelims begin at 6 p.m. ET on ESPN+, with the prelims on ESPNews/ESPN+ at 8 p.m. ET, and the main card starts at 10 p.m. ET on Pay-Per-View.

Adesanya defended his middleweight title with a unanimous-decision (UD) win over Jared Cannonier last time out at UFC 276 in July. It’s his third straight UD victory, with wins over Robert Whittaker and Marvin Vettori, too.

Since arriving at the UFC level, “The Last Stylebender” has managed an 11-1 record, with a lone defeat coming via UD to Jan Blachowicz when he scooted up a weight class trying to become a 2-class champ.

The 33-year-old switch-stance fighter looks to drop Pereira, who has been on the fast track for a title shot.

Pereira is 3-0 since arriving at the UFC level, recording two KO/TKO wins and a UD over fellow Brazilian Bruno Silva. Last time out, Pereira destroyed Sean Strickland via 1st-round KO/TKO at UFC 276.

Adesanya has a 1-inch reach advantage, while Pereira has a 6.29-to-3.93 significant strikes landed per minute advantage in his brief time at the UFC level.

UFC 281: Adesanya vs. Pereira picks and predictions

Records: Adesanya (23-1-0) | Pereira (6-1-0)

Fight result (2-way line or moneyline)

Adesanya (-230) puts his strap on the line here, and Pereira (+175) has a chance to make history in the main event. But it isn’t happening. Not this time.

Adesanya knows what it takes to wow the judges with the technical aspects. His fights can be somewhat boring — he is like the Floyd Mayweather of the middleweight class. Adesanya doesn’t get a lot of finishes, but he outpoints fighters. He doesn’t take a lot of risks, doesn’t take a lot of unnecessary punches, and knows how to play it safe.

Look for this to be a distance-striking fight with few takedown attempts, as neither of these fighters will be eager to get to the canvas or walk into punches while upright. Pereira will play it just as safe as Adesanya here.

The best play on the board is not Adesanya on the 2-way line, but ADESANYA BY POINTS (+110) at plus money.

Over/Under (O/U)

YES: FIGHT TO GO THE DISTANCE (-125) is the play in all Adesanya fights, regardless of opponents. Neither of these fighters will be super aggressive for the knockout, or even less likely, the submission attempt.

The good news with Adesanya fights when buying a Pay-Per-View card is that you will get your money’s worth in terms of time spent watching.

UFC 276: Israel Adesanya vs. Jared Cannonier odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s UFC 276 odds and lines between Israel Adesanya vs. Jared Cannonier, with MMA picks, tips and predictions.

In a middleweight championship bout in the co-main event, Israel Adesanya and Jared Cannonier meet Saturday at UFC 276 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Below, we analyze the UFC 276 Adesanya vs. Cannonier odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

The early prelims can be viewed on ESPN/ESPN+ at 6 p.m. ET, followed by the prelims on ABC/ESPN/ESPN+ at 8 p.m. The main card on Pay-Per-View starts at 10 p.m.

Adesanya – a.k.a. “The Last Stylebender” – heads into this one looking to successfully defend his strap for the 5th straight outing. He won the belt from Marvin Vettori in June 2021, and defended it with another unanimous-decision win over Robert Whittaker at UFC 271 in February.

Stylebender went the distance in each of his past 3 outings. The Nigerian-born champ has had finishes in just 3 of his past 11 bouts. He does it with flare and technical ability, wowing the judges, but he was on the wrong side of things against Jan Blachowicz at UFC 259 (March 2021), and certainly can be beaten, although that fight was an unsuccessful step up to the light heavyweight division.

Cannonier knocked out Derek Brunson at UFC 271, following up a unanimous-decision win over Kelvin Gastelum in the main event in August 2021. As far as common opponents, Cannonier lost a unanimous-decision fight at UFC 254 to Whittaker.

The challenger – a.k.a. “The Killa Gorilla” – had KO/TKO finishes in 5 of his past 7 UFC bouts, winning 4 of those showings. He holds his own in terms of significant strikes landed per minute vs. Adesanya, with the champ holding a slight 3.84-to-3.76 edge. Cannonier is a little more accurate at 54.32% to 53.04% for Adesanya.

The ground game favors Adesanya, should it get to that point, as Cannonier has never had a submission result at the UFC level, and he hasn’t had a submission win since April 2013 –  at the AK Entertainment level. Adesanya has a 0.21 submission average, but he has yet to win or lose a fight by that method, so toss that out when finalizing your ticket.

UFC 276 Adesanya vs. Cannonier picks and predictions

Records: Adesanya (22-1-0) | Cannonier (15-5-0)

Fight result (2-way line or money line)

There is absolutely no value playing Adesanya (-500) straight up, or even as part of a 3- or 4-fighter parlay.

The champ, who holds a 2.5-inch reach advantage, and 5-inch height advantage, should win Saturday night. The books seem to feel that there is a slight edge to the fight not going the distance, which would seem to mean it will be Cannonier’s kind of fight, as Adesanya rarely gets finishes. However, Adesanya is heavily favored, so it’s a bit contradictory.

Instead, take ADESANYA BY POINTS (+122), as he has gone the distance in 3 straight, and 6 of the past 8 fights, and he will dictate the pace of the fight from the start.

Over/Under (O/U)

YES (-117): FIGHT TO GO THE DISTANCE is a decent value. Adesanya has had just 2 finishes since November 2018. It’s not to say he isn’t capable, as he has a devastating fist, but it’s just not his game. Cannonier might try and impose his will early, looking for the big blow, but Adesanya will weather the storm and the champ will make the challenger fight at his slow, methodical speed.

Neither of these fighters throw a ton of punches per minute, and this will be a technical bout, needing the judges decide whose style was better.

Blachowicz vs. Adesanya: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Records: Blachowicz 27-8 | Adesanya 20-0

Fight result (2-way line or money line)

Adesanya (-250) is moving up in weight, looking to steal the strap away from Blachowicz (+195). He weighed in at 200.5 pounds, becoming the lightest for a UFC light heavyweight title fight. The two previous fighters who weighed lower than 202 pounds were each defeated. Still, are you betting against the unbeaten fighter? You shouldn’t.

Adesanya has landed 4.10 significant strikes per minute in his career, and “The Last Stylebender” is a perfect 9-0 since joining the UFC ranks. He has finished in two of his past three outings, both by KO/TKO, against Paulo Costa and Robert Whittaker. He steps up in weight to fight Blachowicz, but many think he’ll continue to mow down the competition.

Betting ADESANYA BY KO/TKO, DQ OR SUBMISSION (+130) on the 5-way line is the better way to go, rather than taking him straight up on the 2-way line and risking two-and-a-half times your potential return.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under (O/U)

We’ll be betting Adesanya for the finish, so obviously you’ll want NO (-200) ON ‘WILL THE FIGHT GO THE DISTANCE?’, or if you want slightly less risk, play UNDER 4.5 ROUNDS (-155).

In addition, I like to take a two-round block and roll the dice on the winner. Target ADESANYA IN ROUND 3 (+950) and ADESANYA IN ROUND 4 (+1500). Yes, you will lose one end even if he wins between Round 3-4, but you’ll be well ahead. It’s definitely worth the risk, and it’s unlikely he gets the really quick finish as he steps up in weight. It might take him a couple of rounds to feel out Blachowicz before he gets his sea legs and starts pouncing.
