UFC 259 Santos vs. Rakic: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Records: Santos 21-8 | Rakic 13-2

Fight result (2-way line or money line)

RAKIC (-165) straight up on the 2-way line is the best bet here, as he enters 5-1 at the UFC level, and he has a pair of KO/TKO under his belt since joining the company. Last time out, Aug. 29, 2020, in the main event, he took care of Anthony Smith by unanimous decision.

Santos (+140) enters this one two inches shorter and with a two-inch reach disadvantage. Rakic also has a 4.66-4.36 significant strikes landed per minute, with a 54.91-to-48.37 significant-strikes-accuracy-percentage advantage. Santos enters on a two-bout skid, falling to Glover Teixeira in the follow-up to his title bout loss to Jon Jones at UFC 239.

In addition, RAKIC BY KO/TKO, DQ OR SUBMISSION (+190) on the 5-way line is a strong play, as you have a chance to nearly double up. Playing RAKIC IN ROUND 1 (+400) and RAKIC IN ROUND 2 (+725) in round betting is a good play. Yes, you will lose on end, but you’ll still be well ahead if he gets the early finish.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under (O/U)

Four of the past five fights for Santos have finished inside the distance, and 13 of his past 15 have resulted in stoppages., including 10 KO/TKOs (8-2). Two of the past four for Rakic have finished inside the distance, so UNDER 2.5 ROUNDS (-150) is a solid play.

UFC 259: Islam Makhachev vs. Drew Dober odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Saturday’s UFC 259 fight between Islam Makhachev and Drew Dober, with MMA odds, picks, tips and predictions.

In a lightweight bout on Saturday’s main card, Islam Makhachev and Drew Dober meet at UFC 259 at the UFC’s APEX Facility in Las Vegas. The early prelims kick off at 6 p.m. ET on ESPN+, followed by the prelims on ESPN/ESPN+  at 8 p.m. and then the main card on pay-per-view at 10 p.m. Below, we analyze the UFC 259 odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

UFC 259 Makhachev vs. Dober: Odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 8:20 a.m. ET.

  • Fight result (2-way line): Makhachev -450 (bet $450 to win $100) | Dober +333 (bet $100 to win $333)
  • Over/Under: 2.5 rounds (Over -155 | Under +130)
  • Will the fight go the distance? (Yes -140 | No +115)

UFC 259 Makhachev vs. Dober: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Records: Makhachev 18-1 | Dober 23-9

Fight result (2-way line or money line)

Makhachev (-450) has picked up unanimous-decision wins in his previous two outings, including a win over Davi Ramos at UFC 242 Sept. 7, 2019. He was to return in Nov. 2020 but was forced to pull out of the main event on that fight night card due to a staph infection. Between the rust of a long layoff, and the fact he has gone the distance in four of his past six events, he is a risky play.

DOBER (+333) has three straight KO/TKO wins, although none have been against the quality of opponent like Makhachev. Still, playing DOBER BY KO/TKO OR DQ (+500) is too tempting to pass at. He is super aggressive, and will try to fire out of the chute and end Makhachev’s night early while the favorite tries to get his sea legs. If Dober doesn’t get the early finish, this bet gets less attractive as the clock continues to tick. Still, it’s worth a roll of the dice.

Makhachev is a heavy favorite that will cost you four-and-a-half times your potential return, which just isn’t a good bet over the long haul. Plus, he is fighting an aggressive fighter in Dober, who is the much better value bet on the 2-way line.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under (O/U)

As mentioned above, Makhachev has had four of his past six fights decided by the judges. However, the southpaw Dober has had four consecutive stoppages, including three straight KO/TKO wins since his submission loss to Beneil Dariush March 9, 2019. UNDER 2.5 ROUNDS (+130) is worth playing, or YES (-140) ON ‘WILL THE FIGHT GO THE DISTANCE?’ gives you 90 more seconds of wiggle room.

UFC 259 Yan vs. Sterling: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Records: Yan 15-1 | Sterling 19-3

Fight result (2-way line or money line)

Yan is the strap holder, but STERLING (+100) is the play at even money. The “Funk Master” Sterling enters on a five-bout win streak, including an impressive submission win over Cory Sandhagen last time out at UFC 250.

Two of his past five fights have been by stoppage, as he also got Cody Stamann to tap out at UFC 228.

The key will be Sterling and his ground game. He holds a 0.99-to-0.16-submission-average advantage. Yan (-120) is a hard puncher and can knock out plenty. But Sterling has a four-inch reach advantage to hold him at bay, too.

This is the fight he has been waiting for, and Sterling will become division champ. For an added bonus, take STERLING BY SUBMISSION (+333), as if he wins inside the distance, that’s how it’s going to go down.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under (O/U)

Will this five-round battle go the distance? NO (-145) ON ‘WILL THE FIGHT GO THE DISTANCE?’ is the way to go. Yan has recorded back-to-back KO/TKO wins over Jose Aldo and Urijah Faber, and three of his past five have finished inside the distance.

Three of Sterling’s past six fights have ended inside the distance, too. Both will be trying to get stoppages trying to make an impression in this coin-flip fight.

UFC 259: Amanda Nunes vs. Megan Anderson odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Saturday’s UFC 259 fight between Amanda Nunes and Megan Anderson, with MMA odds, picks, tips and predictions.

In a  women’s featherweight title bout on Saturday’s main card, Amanda Nunes and Megan Anderson meet at UFC 259 at the UFC’s APEX Facility in Las Vegas.

Nunes vs. Anderson: Odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 7:45 a.m. ET.

  • Fight result (2-way line): Nunes -900 (bet $900 to win $100) | Anderson +600 (bet $100 to win $600)
  • Over/Under: 1.5 rounds (Over -135 | Under +110)
  • Will the fight go the distance? (Yes +450 | No -650)

Nunes vs. Anderson: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Records: Nunes 20-4 | Anderson 11-4

Fight result (2-way line or money line)

Nunes (-9000) won the title from Meisha Tate back on July 9, 2016, and she has defended her crown successfully in seven straight fights. And no offense to Megan Anderson (+600), but it’s going to take a lot more than a lanky Aussie with marginal punching power to unseat the champ. However, even in a multi-fighter parlay, you can’t take Nunes straight up on the 2-way laying nine times your potential return.

Instead, let’s look at how Nunes is winning. She enters with a 4.44-to-1.82-significant-strikes-landed-per-minute advantage, and she also dominates with a 2.53-to-0.56-takedown average. Three of her past five defenses of the belt, and four of the past seven, have come via KO/TKO, and she tapped out Tate for the first title win at UFC 200. She is multi-faceted, but the best bet is taking NUNES BY KO/TKO OR DQ (-105) on the 7-way line at near even-money. That’s an amazing value given how heavy of a favorite she is on the 2-way line. Yes, a submission win for Nunes means you lose. But she has piled up the knockouts, and that’s a great bet.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under (O/U)

Nunes will be looking for the finish, and it’s hard to envision this fight going the distance. The books agree, as betting Yes +450 on ‘Will the fight go the distance?’ is huge plus-money. But it’s a fool’s bet. This one will be over, and over quickly. Take UNDER 2.5 ROUNDS (-200) to give yourself a little wiggle room, but UNDER 1.5 ROUNDS (+110) is also worth playing lightly. This one could get ugly, quickly.

In addition, normally I like a two-round block, but there is no value taking Nunes in Round 1. Just pinpoint NUNES IN ROUND 2 (+320) for the potential to triple up.

UFC 259: Jan Blachowicz vs. Israel Adesanya odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Saturday’s UFC 259 fight between Jan Blachowicz and Israel Adesanya, with MMA odds, picks, tips and predictions.

In a light heavyweight bout in Saturday’s main event, Jan Blachowicz and Israel Adesanya meet at UFC 259 at the UFC’s APEX Facility in Las Vegas.

Blachowicz vs. Adesanya: Odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 7:20 a.m. ET.

  • Fight result (2-way line): Blachowicz +195 (bet $100 to win $195) | Adesanya -250 (bet $250 to win $100)
  • Over/Under: 3.5 rounds (Over +100 | Under -120)
  • Will the fight go the distance? (Yes +165 | No -200)

Special UFC 259 Promotion!

Bet $1 on Israel Adesanya and WIN $100 (in free bets) if Adesanya wins vs. Blachowicz during UFC 259. Promotion available in CO, IA, IN, MI, NJ, PA, TN, VA and WV. New customer offer, terms and conditions apply.

Blachowicz vs. Adesanya: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Records: Blachowicz 27-8 | Adesanya 20-0

Fight result (2-way line or money line)

Adesanya (-250) is moving up in weight, looking to steal the strap away from Blachowicz (+195). He weighed in at 200.5 pounds, becoming the lightest for a UFC light heavyweight title fight. The two previous fighters who weighed lower than 202 pounds were each defeated. Still, are you betting against the unbeaten fighter? You shouldn’t.

Adesanya has landed 4.10 significant strikes per minute in his career, and “The Last Stylebender” is a perfect 9-0 since joining the UFC ranks. He has finished in two of his past three outings, both by KO/TKO, against Paulo Costa and Robert Whittaker. He steps up in weight to fight Blachowicz, but many think he’ll continue to mow down the competition.

Betting ADESANYA BY KO/TKO, DQ OR SUBMISSION (+130) on the 5-way line is the better way to go, rather than taking him straight up on the 2-way line and risking two-and-a-half times your potential return.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under (O/U)

We’ll be betting Adesanya for the finish, so obviously you’ll want NO (-200) ON ‘WILL THE FIGHT GO THE DISTANCE?’, or if you want slightly less risk, play UNDER 4.5 ROUNDS (-155).

In addition, I like to take a two-round block and roll the dice on the winner. Target ADESANYA IN ROUND 3 (+950) and ADESANYA IN ROUND 4 (+1500). Yes, you will lose one end even if he wins between Round 3-4, but you’ll be well ahead. It’s definitely worth the risk, and it’s unlikely he gets the really quick finish as he steps up in weight. It might take him a couple of rounds to feel out Blachowicz before he gets his sea legs and starts pouncing.
