Titans’ Isaiah Prince admits illegal formation penalties were correct calls

Tennessee Titans OT Isaiah Prince admits the illegal formation penalties called against him in Week 11 were correct.

During the Tennessee Titans’ 23-13 loss to the Minnesota Vikings this past Sunday, veteran offensive tackle Isaiah Prince was repeatedly called for an illegal formation penalty.

This infraction wasn’t called once or twice. The penalty was called a whopping three times and cost the Titans more than just those combined 15 yards.

After a few days to digest, Prince opened up to the media about the calls and his interpretations of the infractions.

For fans across the league, this penalty is often a head-scratcher, as it could honestly be called on almost every play with some tackles almost receiving a pass on it.

Prince, a journeyman, definitely does not get the same benefit of the doubt as a player such as Kansas City Chiefs right tackle Jawaan Taylor, who lines up in a questionable position on almost every snap.

With the league making this a point of emphasis in the period since Prince last saw significant action, it’s actually understandable that there would be some growing pains, as linemen often attempt to gain any advantage they can get in today’s NFL.

“We have an opportunity to make sure and check,” he said talking about pre-snap positioning. “We just got to do a better job at making sure.”

One sure thing is that the Titans’ right tackle position is a mess and this debacle is the latest example of how this one position has limited the growth and development of the offense from day one.

If the Titans want to compete they must fix this position and it is clear that the answer is not on the roster.

Titans’ Brian Callahan: ‘Right tackle is by far the weakest link’

Same game, same result for the Tennessee Titans at the right tackle position, they just aren’t good enough.

The Tennessee Titans lost to the Minnesota Vikings in Week 11, and once again, one of their biggest flaws was exposed. The Titans need a right tackle!

The right tackle position has plagued the team this entire season, dating back to training camp, and yet, no matter what changes are made, there is still a major issue. This week, they may have cost the Titans the ball game.  Even head coach Brian Callahan acknowledges this.

He is absolutely correct: neither he nor offensive line coach Bill Callahan has been able to find a player that can step in and just be average. Nicholas Petit-Frere, Leroy Watson, Isaiah Prince, Jaelyn Duncan or John Ojukwu, none have been able to step in and hold down that spot due to performance issues or injury.

This begs the question of whether the fundamental issue is the coaching, players, or system. While people on the outside can only speculate about the issues, it is clear that inside the organization, the players are to blame, and they will continue to cycle through body after body to find a solution.

Maybe it is time for the staff to take a deep dive into their techniques or philosophies; it’s clear that something isn’t working. Unfortunately, the Titans sit in uncharted territory, with the son being the head coach and the father in charge of the worst unit on the team. If this were any other franchise, offensive line coach Bill Callahan would be on the hot seat, but instead here the players are solely on the chopping block.

The Titans will take on the Houston Texans in Week 12, and maybe during their preparations, they can find a way to put an average right tackle on the field.

Titans-Vikings Week 11: Offense, defense and special teams snap counts

The Tennessee Titans lost their Week 11 game against the Minnesota Vikings. Here are the snap counts on offense, defense and special teams.

The Tennessee Titans lost their second straight game on Sunday afternoon at Nissan Stadium, falling to the Minnesota Vikings, 23-13.

The loss dropped the Titans to 2-8 on the season and that’s not even the worst frustration. Rather, that’s aimed at NFL officials who made one of their worst calls — perhaps even the worst call — of the entire regular season.

That will obviously be widely discussed this week but before we look ahead, we’ll quickly look back.

Now let’s take a closer look at the snap counts that contributed to the Titans’ Week 11 loss.

Offensive snaps: 59
Defensive snaps: 73
Special teams snaps: 26

The Titans saw a change at right tackle with Nicholas Petit-Frere being benched mid-series in favor of Isaiah Prince, who ended up taking 49 percent of the offensive snaps. It’s safe to assume that Petit-Frere’s starting days are over. He may have even played his last snap for the Titans period.

There was also a notable rotation on defense — something the Titans have largely avoided this season. While it was still a bit top-heavy, there weren’t six or seven players taking 100 percent of the snaps.

Titans sign Cory Levin, elevate two from practice squad for Week 11

The Tennessee Titans signed Cory Levin and elevated two players from the practice squad ahead of Sunday’s matchup against the Vikings.

The Tennessee Titans will take on the Minnesota Vikings in Week 11 action on Sunday and dipped into their practice squad for reinforcements on Saturday.

First they signed offensive lineman Corey Levin from the practice squad to the active roster to fill the vacancy left when safety Mike Edwards was waived. The veteran offensive lineman has been elevated from the unit twice and will add some experienced depth on the interior in the wake of the season ending injury to center Lloyd Cushenberry.

The team also used standard elevations to make tackle Isaiah Prince and defensive back Daryl Worley available this week. Worley will add some depth to both the secondary and special teams with L’Jarius Sneed out and Justin Hardee questionable, and Prince will provide an experienced tackle behind Nicholas Petit-Frere with Leroy Watson out.

This is the second elevation for Worley and the first for Prince in 2024. The Titans can only elevate Worley one more time before they would need to sign him to the active roster.

The Titans and Vikings will take the field Sunday at Nissan Stadium in Nashville.

Titans sign OT Isaiah Prince to the practice squad

The Titans added depth to a shaky offensive line on Tuesday when they signed offensive tackle Isaiah Prince to the practice squad.

The Tennessee Titans signed offensive tackle Isaiah Prince to the practice squad on Tuesday, per reports.

The Titans’ offensive line has been just plain bad this season. They’ve allowed 19 sacks this season, an average of 3.17 sacks per game. On those sacks, the Titans have lost 124 offensive yards, an average of almost 21 yards per game.

The crazy thing is that includes the game against the Indianapolis Colts when Leroy Watson started in place of Nicholas Petit-Frere and the Titans didn’t allow a single sack. So, if you average it out over five games instead of six… you get the drift.

Brian Callahan knows this is a problem. He’s admitted he’s open to changing the offensive line personnel, and signing Prince adds depth to the position.

Prince has appeared in 21 regular season games, starting six and four playoff games. He was part of the Cincinnati Bengals team in 2021 when Callahan was the offensive coordinator, so there’s also a history there. In 395 pass-protection snaps in 2021, Prince allowed 36 pressures.

Even if Prince never plays for the Titans, the signing should motivate the current players to perform better on the field or risk losing playing time.

6 players cut by Broncos signing with new teams

The Chiefs are expected to sign ex-Broncos receiver/returner Montrell Washington to their practice squad.

Five players who were cut by the Denver Broncos earlier this week have found new homes, including one landing with a division rival.

After being released on Tuesday, kicker Brett Maher has signed with the Los Angeles Rams. Maher will now get a fresh start in L.A. after the Broncos brought in Wil Lutz through a trade with the New Orleans Saints.

Meanwhile, running back Tony Jones is expected to land on the practice squad of the New Orleans Saints, where he played from 2020-2022.

Elsewhere, the Minnesota Vikings are signing ex-Broncos offensive lineman Henry Byrd to their practice squad, and the Atlanta Falcons signed ex-Denver offensive lineman Isaiah Prince to their active roster.

Finally, the fifth and most disconcerting signing: the Kansas City Chiefs are expected to sign former Broncos receiver/returner Montrell Washington to their practice squad. Washington eventually making KC’s active roster and burning Denver would be quite a disappointing development for Broncos Country.

Update: Another ex-Bronco WR is signing with a division rival — the Las Vegas Raiders are adding Marquez Callaway to their practice squad.

Broncos offseason roster: No. 70, OT Isaiah Prince

Offensive tackle Isaiah Prince could be a solid backup option for the Denver Broncos in 2023.

Broncos Wire’s 90-man offseason roster series continues today with a look at fifth-year offensive tackle Isaiah Price, No. 70.

Before the Broncos: Prince (6-7, 305 pounds) played his college ball at Ohio State, where he was a three-year starter. Prince earned first-team All-Big Ten honors during his senior year with the Buckeyes. That year (2018), Ohio State was third in the Big Ten in sacks allowed, and the offense set records in pass completions, yards and touchdowns. At the 2019 NFL Combine, Prince ran a 5.09 40-yard dash, with a vertical jump of 27 inches.

Prince entered the NFL as a sixth-round pick with the Miami Dolphins in 2019 and he appeared in four games as a rookie, starting two. In 2020, Prince opted out of playing due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In 2021, Prince joined the Cincinnati Bengals. He appeared in 15 regular-season games that year, starting four. Prince then started in the playoffs for Cincinnati, including Super Bowl LVI, a 23-20 loss to the Los Angeles Rams. After emerging late in the 2021 season, Prince missed most of the 2022 season with an elbow injury.

Broncos tenure: Prince was signed by the Broncos during the 2023 offseason.

Chance to make the 53-man roster: The Broncos’ starting offensive line is a new-look unit, with the free agent signings of Mike McGlinchey and Ben Powers added during the offseason. Price could see action as a backup in case any lineman goes down, or he could also be a veteran member of the practice squad. Prince will have a decent shot to make the 53-man roster as a backup swing tackle.

Former Bengals OT Isaiah Prince lands with Broncos

A former Bengals player has joined the Broncos.

The Cincinnati Bengals recently made a handful of roster moves after their playoff exit, extending a handful of names on reserve/future contracts.

Notably, offensive tackle Isaiah Prince wasn’t one of those.

Price didn’t need long to find a new home though, landing with the Devneer Broncos on a reserve/future contract there.

A sixth-round pick out of Ohio State in 2019, the Bengals claimed him later that year on waivers and he wound up starting four games and the playoffs in 2021.

But Price was placed on the practice squad last November after a stint on injured reserve. Once activated, despite injuries to both starting offensive tackles, Hakeem Adeniji took over the job at right tackle and Jackson Carman on the left.

Offensive tackle is once again a position the Bengals could be looking at addressing this offseason, be it free agency or even as high as the first round.

Broncos sign OT Isaiah Prince to reserve/future contract

The Broncos signed OT Isaiah Prince to a reserve/future contract. He started for the Bengals in Super Bowl LVI.

The Denver Broncos signed offensive tackle Isaiah Prince to a reserve/future contract on Wednesday, according to the NFL’s transaction wire. Price will officially join the team’s 90-man offseason roster when the new league year begins in March.

Prince (6-7, 300 pounds) entered the NFL as a sixth-round pick out of Ohio State with the Miami Dolphins in 2019. He was active for four games and earned two starts before being waived in December of his rookie season.

The Cincinnati Bengals claimed Prince off waivers late in the 2019 season. The offensive lineman later opted out of the 2020 season due to COVID-19. Prince returned in 2021 and started in four regular-season games and then started in the playoffs. Cincinnati QB Joe Burrow was sacked seven times in a 23-20 loss to the L.A. Rams in Super Bowl LVI that year.

Prince began the 2022 season on injured reserve with an elbow injury and was demoted to the practice squad after returning from IR in November. Prince was elevated to the active roster in the playoffs, but the Bengals opted not to sign him to a reserve/future deal at the end of their season.

Prince now becomes the 11th player Denver has signed to a reserve/future contract this offseason, joining DL Jordan Jackson, WR Victor Bolden, G Parker Ferguson, CB Faion Hicks, CB Delonte Hood, DB Devon Key, RB Tyreik McAllister, OLB Wyatt Ray, OL Hunter Thedford and LB Ray Wilborn.

The Broncos did not sign five members of their practice squad.

Bengals make roster moves before divisional round playoffs vs. Bills

Two roster moves for the Bengals before the game against the Bills.

The Cincinnati Bengals made two roster moves before their divisional round showdown with the Buffalo Bills.

Saturday, Cincinnati announced the team has elevated tight end Nick Bowers and offensive tackle Isaiah Prince from the practice squad to the active roster.

Prince is the big one here. Once speculated as the possible starter at right tackle in place of the injured La’el Collins, he’ll instead serve as the swing-tackle backup. That means he’ll be first off the bench for Hakeem Adeniji on the right side and for Jackson Carman at left tackle, plus likely seeing work in jumbo packages.

As standard elevations, both players will revert back to the practice squad on Monday.
