The Nets and the Lakers squared off twice in the preseason with Brooklyn sweeping both contests. That was nearly three months ago and October basketball isn’t exactly an indication of where teams will be in January, February or even June. What we do know early on this season is that the Nets are struggling to find wins, while the Lakers look like a championship-caliber team.

LeBron James and Kyrie Irving have a history from their days on the Cavaliers, in which they won a championship. For the first time this season, the two will square-off on the hardwood. Kyrie did not play in Monday night’s 117-111 loss to the Philadelphia 76ers, with the team opting to have him rest a tight hamstring. The Nets are currently in eighth place in the Eastern Conference with an 18-24 record and have some internal turmoil with Irving making comments about the team “missing pieces”. They will need Irving to step up and those missing pieces to show up Thursday night if they want to avoid dropping their fifth consecutive game.
While the Nets are struggling against the competition, LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and the Lakers have looked like a true contender for yet another NBA Championship in franchise history. The Lakers first in the Western Conference, but had a rough 139-107 loss to the Celtics and are in the midst of a five-game road trip. Davis leads the team in both points (26.6 per game) and rebounds (9.3), while James is averaging 25.2 points per game and a team-leading 11 assists.
