Candace Parker hilariously called out Shaq after he found out she won Defensive Player of the Year

“Take the surprise out your voice, Shaq.”

Candace Parker has become one of the best basketball analysts out there. Her work on Inside the NBA makes that clear.

Don’t get it twisted, though — she’s still one of the best players in the sport, her work behind the desk aside. She’s a WNBA superstar and a certified bucket. She’s also the league’s reigning Defensive Player of the Year.

Apparently, Shaquille O’Neal didn’t know that about his co-host. Adam Lefkoe called her the reigning Defensive Player of the Year and Shaq sounded surprised by it.

He asked, “You were defensive player of the year?” to which Parker responded, “Take that surprise out your voice, Shaq.”

It was incredible.

She had to check him again. Dwyane Wade got a good laugh out of it.

What a moment. Shaq should get to know his teammate a bit better.

Candace Parker was really getting buckets on Inside the NBA

Candace Parker looks like she’s ready for the WNBA season

We’ve known for a long time that Candace Parker is one of the very best basketball players in the world.

We also now know that she’s also one of the best basketball analysts in the world, too, from the work that she’s been doing on NBA on TNT over the last few seasons.

But on Tuesday’s episode of Inside the NBA, she combined the two. She was straight up getting buckets on the set like it was nothing. The Sky forward and reigning Defensive Player of the Year drained five straight 3-pointers while on the set.

It was incredible to watch. All net. No rim.

Watching this, I’m pretty confident in saying that Parker is the best shooter on the Inside the NBA team. And it probably isn’t close.

Afterwards, on Twitter, she gave a shoutout to the Chicago Sky fans.

Chicago, it looks like you’re in for a real treat this season.

Watch Candace Parker absolutely schooled Shaq on ‘Inside the NBA’

This isn’t good.

Shaq has not had the greatest run on Inside the NBA so far this season. It’s been pretty tumultuous, to say the least.

He’s started beef with Donovan Mitchell, got called out as a “casual” by Christian Wood, didn’t know Pascal Siakam’s first name and couldn’t name legitimate NBA players as part of one of the show’s games.

Now, he’s being schooled on defensive coverages by his co-host Candace Parker.

Parker brought up a point about how defenses around the NBA are switching more than ever and how the Nuggets take advantage of that. And Shaq asked “why” the defenses were switching so much.

Parker explains “because everybody can shoot 3’s.” And then Shaq asks “what happened to everybody man up?” referring to the way defense used to be played in the NBA.

From there, it sort of just devolved into Parker explaining the modern game to Shaq and him giving his “back in my day” takes in response.

She had to break down the math to reason with him about why “pre-rotating” the defense just doesn’t work as well anymore.

You can see just how frustrated Parker was getting as explaining this. Her faces say it all.

This was rough to watch. But it’s not surprising at all. This has been a trend all season long. Shaq just doesn’t seem very interested in the modern NBA and delivers his analysis accordingly.

Stuff like this does a disservice to the NBA’s fans and the players in today’s game. Shaq needs to be better.

Shaq hilariously whiffed on knowing the first names of NBA players (but that’s not great!)

Yikes.

Inside the NBA isn’t really a basketball analysis show anymore. It’s more of a comedy and entertainment show.

What happened with Shaq yesterday on Thursday’s episode proves that.

The big fella played the “First Name Game” where he had to guess the first names of NBA players. They weren’t superstars, but they weren’t the end-of-the-bench guys, either. These are legitimate rotation players on teams fighting for playoff position.

So, of course, as one of the lead analysts on set along with Kenny Smith and Charles Barkley, one would assume Shaq should be able to knock this out fairly easily, right?

Wrong. Absolutely not. Here’s a look.

He only got one of the names correct — it was Desmond Bane of the Grizzlies. And it feels like someone totally gave him the answer.

Yes, this was hilarious. Seeing Shaq guess these names so incorrectly is television gold. Same thing when they do this to Charles Barkley with his “Who He Play For?” game.

But…it’s also really, really bad. Shaq is supposed to be one of the “analysts” on set. But what sort of thoughtful analysis can we get when he doesn’t even know these players’ names?

It’s all jokes. Inside the NBA is really, really funny. But at some point, they should probably have one of their lead analysts take the game more seriously.

Looks like Christian Wood may have been right. Shaq looks like a casual.

Of course ‘Inside the NBA’ had to put a cat head filter on Charles Barkley

Of course.

The big viral clip of the week was “Cat Lawyer,” in which a man named Ron Ponton could not turn off a Zoom filter that made him look like a worried feline.

Ponton was later “Milkshake Ducked,” although the clip continues to be everywhere.

So of course Inside the NBA had to do what it does and involve Charles Barkley in a prank surrounding the latest internet phenomenon: they stuck a cat filter on the cameras and boom, Chuck was a cat. Then, he was a horse.

Then, there was the punchline: they stuck a talking doughnut filter on Barkley. Lots of laughs were had:

Shaq and the ‘Inside the NBA’ crew lost it when Ernie Johnson dropped rap lyrics

Ernie knows his stuff.

We got ourselves a great Inside the NBA moment on Tuesday that, for once, had nothing to do with Shaquille O’Neal and Charles Barkley.

Ernie Johnson was, as usual, doing his terrific hosting duties and introducing the halftime report during Game 5 of Milwaukee Bucks and Miami Heat series that eventually ended with the Bucks being eliminated.

While the sounds of Rick Ross were being played, Shaq immediately quizzed Johnson: “I bet you don’t know who that is, Ernie.”

He did immediately, and his answer was spectacular, sending everyone on set into laughter, but with respect to Johnson for knowing it:

This then became a thing throughout the broadcast. He nailed it with Travis Scott:

And he ended it with this:

Good work.

Watch: Charles Barkley can’t get names right, TNT crew loses it

The Round Mound of Rebound could not get the names of two NBA stars right.

Sometimes when people mess up on live television, it makes for the best television.

That was the case Saturday night as Auburn legend Charles Barkley couldn’t get the names of some NBA players out during an episode of Inside the NBA. Of course, Shaq, Ernie and everyone on set absolutely lost it.

Oh, Charles. You never fail to entertain.

Shaq is furious that Charles Barkley left him off his all-time top 10 list

Uh-oh.

Charles Barkley has been pretty consistent when it comes to his all-time NBA top-10 list.

And although he still believes LeBron James is outside the top five (really?), the issue we’re focusing on today is the fact that he left out his fellow Inside the NBA personality and Hall of Famer Shaquille O’Neal from his list, which he recounted on Thursday night.

That elicited some playful (?) anger from Shaq, which — as always — makes for some really good television.

Let’s start with the top 10 list: Michael Jordan, Oscar Robertson, Bill Russell, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Wilt Chamberlain, Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Jerry West, Elgin Baylor, and Magic Johnson and Larry Bird are right at the end.

But no Shaq!

Here’s O’Neal:

It doesn’t matter if you think O’Neal is top-10 or not. All that matters is that this is very funny.

LeBron James continues to grieve loss of Kobe: ‘I love you man’

LeBron James continues to grieve the loss of Los Angeles Lakers legend Kobe Bryant in the days after his tragic death.

LeBron James, like the rest of the Los Angeles Lakers community, is still grieving after the tragic loss of Kobe Bryant, his daughter Gianna, and seven other people, in a horrific helicopter crash on Sunday morning.

Only about a day after LeBron shared his initial feelings following the loss, James shared another photo of Kobe and him as he is still coming to terms with the tragic accident. LeBron’s comments coincided with a special edition of the NBA on TNT, that was held in an empty Staples Center and included emotional comments from Shaquille O’Neal and Jerry West. James, like many, is still processing the tragedy.

Tonight’s scheduled game between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Los Angeles Clippers has been postponed until further notice. The rest of the NBA schedule for Tuesday night is going on as planned.
