Broncos release Wednesday injury report: 2 players return to practice

Broncos OL Luke Wattenberg (ankle) and LB Drew Sanders (Achilles) returned to practice on Wednesday.

Denver Broncos safety P.J. Locke (thumb) fully practiced on Wednesday after missing the team’s last two games. Locke now appears set to return to the starting lineup this week. Devon Key filled in while Locke was sidelined for the last two weeks.

Elsewhere on the injury front, Broncos center Luke Wattenberg (ankle) was designated to return from injured reserve and linebacker Drew Sanders (Achilles) opened his 21-day win to return from the physically unable to perform list.

Wattenberg has three weeks to return from IR and Sanders has the same amount of time to return from the PUP list. If they ae not activated to the 53-man roster within that three-week window, Wattenberg and Sanders will remain on reserve for the rest of the season.

As for the Kansas City Chiefs, quarterback Patrick Mahomes (ankle) fully practiced Wednesday after tweaking his ankle in Week 9.

Broncos could get more depth at OLB soon

Broncos OLB Drew Sanders is “close to returning” from his Achilles injury, according to 9News.

Even after trading outside linebacker Baron Browning to the Arizona Cardinals, the Denver Broncos still have a deep pass rush depth chart.

And it might get even deeper.

Broncos outside linebacker Drew Sanders (Achilles) is “close to returning” from the physically unable to perform list, according to a report from KUSA-TV’s Mike Klis. Sanders tore his Achilles in April and coach Sean Payton said this spring that the team was hopeful he would return in the fall.

“Fortunately, it was an early enough timeline — we’ll bring him back,” Payton said in May. “I don’t want to say October, but the good news is the surgery was done, it was clean. There wasn’t anything complex about the injury.”

Once he returns, Sanders will join an outside linebacker room that features Jonathon Cooper and Nik Bonitto. Denver also has Jonah Ellis and Dondrea Tillman providing rotational depth at the position.

Sanders, 23, was picked by the Broncos in the third round of the 2023 NFL draft out of Arkansas. He started four games as a rookie.

The #Buccaneers listed 11 players on their latest injury report ahead of a Week 9 matchup against the #Chiefs on “Monday Night Football.”

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have a staggering number of players who could potentially miss their matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs on “Monday Night Football” in Week 9.

The Buccaneers need a win to get above .500, and will face an uphill battle against the Chiefs given their lengthy injury report.

No less than 11 players were listed by Tampa Bay this week, including star wide receiver Mike Evans, who is officially listed as out for the Buccaneers’ primetime matchup against Kansas City at Arrowhead Stadium.

Check out the full report, which was posted to Twitter by Chiefs senior team reporter Matt McMullen:

Though neither team will be at full strength for Monday night’s Week 9 finale, fans can still expect to see an exciting game that will serve as a Super Bowl LV rematch.

Broncos inactives: 7 players won’t play vs. Ravens today

Broncos inactives today: Zach Wilson*, P.J. Locke (thumb), Damarri Mathis, Kris Abrams-Draine, Frank Crum, Greg Dulcich and Dondrea Tillman.

The Denver Broncos have announced their list of seven inactive players for a Sunday’s showdown with the Baltimore Ravens in Week 9 of the 2024 NFL season.

The Broncos’ inactive players today are quarterback Zach Wilson*, safety P.J. Locke (thumb), cornerback Damarri Mathis, defensive back Kris Abrams-Draine, offensive tackle Frank Crum, tight end Greg Dulcich and outside linebacker Dondrea Tillman.

With Locke inactive, Devon Key is presumably the next man up at safety. JL Skinner and Keidron Smith are also available behind starter Brandon Jones.

Following the return of Alex Palczewski, Crum is a healthy scratch today. Defensive lineman Eyioma Uwazurike is playing today as the team opted to carry an extra defensive lineman.

*Technically, Wilson is still available to play as the team’s emergency third-string quarterback behind starter Bo Nix and primary backup Jarrett Stidham, but he’s on the inactive list and does not count against the game-day roster. Wilson can play if both Nix and Stidham are injured.

With the exception of Wilson, these inactive players are members of the 53-man roster who are not eligible to play against the Ravens. They will be reactivated on Monday.

Is Lamar Jackson playing today? Injury updates for Ravens QB vs. Broncos

Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson was dealing with back and knee injuries last week. Here are the latest updates.

The Baltimore Ravens (5-3) are set to host the Denver Broncos (5-3) in Week 9 of the 2024 NFL season and quarterback Lamar Jackson‘s status has been a big storyline leading up to the game.

Jackson did not participate in Wednesday’s practice last week and Ravens coach John Harbaugh described it as a “rest” day for the quarterback. When the injury report came out later in the day, Jackson was listed as a “DNP” (did not participate) due to knee and back injuries.

Jackson then missed practice again on Thursday, bringing into question his status for Sunday’s game against the Broncos. Jackson practiced for the first time last week on Friday. Jackson told reporters in Baltimore that his status for Sunday was “never in doubt” and sitting out two days of practice was “just resting my body.”

Baltimore will have a short week after hosting Denver on Nov. 3 as the Ravens are set to face the Cincinnati Bengals on Thursday Night Football four days later on Nov. 7. With two games in a five-game span, Jackson’s status will be worth monitoring this week.

Lamar Jackson injury update

Jackson practiced on Friday and he was not given a “game status” injury designation, so he has been cleared to play on Sunday. He’s ready to start against the Broncos in Week 9.

How long will Lamar Jackson be out?

The Broncos prepared last week as if Jackson would play on Sunday and he’s been cleared to suit up today. The Ravens announced their inactives list at 11:30 a.m. ET and Jackson is ACTIVE for Sunday’s game. He’s set to start against Denver.

Ravens quarterback depth chart

Baltimore’s backup quarterback is Josh Johnson. The 38-year-old veteran has spent time with 14 different NFL teams, including three separate stints with the Ravens. Johnson is 1-8 as a starter in his career, including an 0-1 mark with Baltimore. Devin Leary, a rookie out of Kentucky, is the team’s third-string quarterback. He was picked by the Ravens in the sixth round of this year’s NFL draft.

QB1: Lamar Jackson
QB2: Josh Johnson
QB3: Devin Leary

Elsewhere on the injury front, right tackle Mike McGlinchey (knee) fully participated in Friday’s practice session and he’s been cleared to play.

Meanwhile, Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson (back/knee) returned to practice on Friday after sitting out on Wednesday and Thursday. Jackson told reporters in Baltimore that his status for Sunday was “never in doubt.” The QB said sitting out two days this week was “just resting my body.” Jackson was not given a game status designation on Friday, so he is officially cleared to play.

When is Christian McCaffrey coming back for 49ers?

Here’s the potential timeline for Christian McCaffrey’s return.

All signs point to running back Christian McCaffrey returning for the San Francisco 49ers shortly after their Week 9 Bye.

But what exactly does McCaffrey’s timeline look like?

Nothing will happen officially until the 49ers’ Bye week ends. They’re technically off through Sunday. They’ll have a bonus practice Monday and head coach Kyle Shanahan said the hope is to have McCaffrey on the field for that practice.

In order to get McCaffrey back for that session, the 49ers will have to open his 21-day practice window Monday. That’s when we can expect that official announcement.

Since the team isn’t holding any Bye week practices, McCaffrey will be ramping up his rehab with simulated workouts during the week off to ensure his Achilles responds well before joining a live practice.

What’ll be interesting is whether McCaffrey can get ready to return with one full week of practice.

He’d get Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday to participate before playing in the 49ers’ Week 10 showdown against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

If he needs just one week of practice, which is the same amount of time wide receiver Ricky Pearsall needed for his ramp up, the team would officially activate him off IR on Saturday, Nov. 9. If he’s not activated then, it means he’ll need to wait at least another week.

If his 21-day window opens Monday, as expected, it means the 49ers will have until Nov. 25 to either activate him or place him on season-ending IR.

Broncos release injury report: Starting safety still sidelined

Broncos safety P.J. Locke (thumb) missed practice again on Thursday.

Denver Broncos starting safety P.J. Locke (thumb) missed practice again on Thursday while right tackle Mike McGlinchey (knee) returned to practice.

Devon Key played in the place of Locke last week and he totaled five tackles. Alex Palczewski started three games in the place of an injured McGlinchey earlier this season. McGlinchey and Palczewski are now both healthy.

As for the Baltimore Ravens, quarterback Lamar Jackson (back/knee) missed practice again on Thursday. His status will be a big storyline to watch going into the weekend.

Lamar Jackson injury update: Ravens QB misses 2nd day of practice

Ravens star quarterback Lamar Jackson (knee/back) did not practice on Wednesday or Thursday.

Baltimore Ravens star quarterback Lamar Jackson (back/knee) sat out practice again on Thursday after also being sidelined for Wednesday’s session.

When he spoke to media members after Wednesday’s practice session, Ravens coach John Harbaugh described Jackson’s absence as a “rest” day. When the injury report was released later in the day, Jackson was listed with back and knee injuries.

With Jackson missing practice again on Thursday, the quarterback’s status is worth monitoring going into Sunday’s game against the Denver Broncos. Baltimore will have one more practice this week on Friday.

After facing the Broncos on Nov. 3, the Ravens have a Thursday Night Football matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals on Nov. 7. So Jackson will have a short week to recover if he does play against Denver in Week 9.

If Jackson is not able to play against the Broncos on Sunday, Josh Johnson would be the next man up at quarterback. Baltimore also has Devin Leary available on the practice squad.

Sunday’s game will be regionally televised on CBS (TV broadcast map). Playing on the road, Denver is considered a big underdog in Week 9.

Broncos injury report: Window opens for safety to return from PUP

Broncos safety Delarrin Turner-Yell (ACL) returned to practice today, starting his 21-day window to return from the PUP list.

Denver Broncos safety Delarrin Turner-Yell returned to practice on Wednesday, officially starting his 21-day window to return from the physically unable to perform list.

Turner-Yell tore his ACL and meniscus in Week 17 last season. The Broncos now have three weeks to active him to the 53-man roster. If Turner-Yell is not activated within three weeks, he will remain on reserve for the rest of the season.

Denver has one other player — linebacker Drew Sanders (Achilles) — on the PUP list. He’s apparently not ready to open his practice window yet.

Elsewhere on the injury front, safety P.J. Locke (thumb) did not practice Wednesday and right tackle Mike McGlinchey (knee) was also held out.

As for the Baltimore Ravens, quarterback Lamar Jackson (back/knee) did not practice on Wednesday. Ravens coach John Harbaugh described Jackson’s absence as a rest day.
