Is Riley Moss playing today? Injury updates for Broncos CB

Broncos cornerback Riley Moss (knee) won’t play against the Chargers on ‘Thursday Night Football.’

Denver Broncos second-year cornerback Riley Moss went down with a knee injury against the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 12 and he did not play against the Cleveland Browns in Week 13 or against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 15 after Denver’s bye week. Here are the latest on Moss’ MCL status going into Week 16.

Riley Moss injury update

Moss has been ruled out for Thursday’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers, so he won’t suit up today. The Broncos held two walk-through practices this week and Moss was listed as an estimated limited participant on Tuesday, which is a step in the right direction after he did not participate in practice two weeks ago.

How long will Riley Moss be out?

After the Raiders game, Broncos coach Sean Payton said the injury “wasn’t really serious,” but the cornerback has now missed three games. Perhaps the coach meant it wasn’t as serious as it could have been. After facing the Chargers on Thursday, Denver will have nine days before their next game against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 17, a Saturday afternoon game. With extra rest following a TNF game, Moss might be a candidate to return to action against the Bengals.

Broncos cornerback depth chart

Last week, rookie Kris Abrams-Draine filled in for Moss with Damarri Mathis getting rotational snaps. Abrams-Draine will likely start across from Pat Surtaon on Thursday with Ja’Quan McMillian playing in the slot. The Broncos also have special teams ace Tremon Smith and veteran Levi Wallace providing additional depth at cornerback.

Broncos’ final injury report gives updates on Pat Surtain and Riley Moss

Broncos CB Pat Surtain (ankle) is good to go for ‘Thursday Night Football,’ but fellow CB Riley Moss (knee) has been ruled out.

Denver Broncos cornerback Pat Surtain (ankle) has been cleared to play in a Thursday Night Football game against the Los Angeles Chargers after fully participating in practice this week.

Fellow cornerback Riley Moss (knee) has been ruled out after being limited at practice this week. With Moss unavailable, Kris Abrams-Draine and Damarri Mathis are the candidates to replace him in the lineup.

Elsewhere on the injury front, defensive lineman John Franklin-Myers (foot) was an estimated full participant Wednesday after being listed as a non-participant on Tuesday and Monday. Denver’s backup defensive linemen are Malcolm Roach, Jordan Jackson and Eyioma Uwazurike.

With running back Jaleel McLaughlin (quad) ruled out, rookie Blake Watson will likely be a candidate to get elevated from the practice squad.

Denver’s final injury report can be seen below. Note that team held two walk-through practices, so participation reports are estimates. DNP = did not participate.

Seahawks QB Geno Smith expected to play against Vikings despite injury

Despite leaving last week’s game against Green Bay with a knee injury, Seahawks QB Geno Smith should play Sunday against the Vikings.

The Minnesota Vikings got a gift last Sunday when the Detroit Lions lost to the Buffalo Bills. That loss gave the Vikings control of their own destiny not only in the NFC North but in the NFC playoff picture at large. With that loss, all the Vikings have to do is win out and they’ll take home the division title and the number one seed in the NFC.

They held up their end of the bargain on Monday night with a convincing win over fellow division rivals the Chicago Bears. But the schedule for the Vikings gets much tougher from here on out, and it starts this Sunday with a matchup against the Seattle Seahawks. Seattle has some concerns heading into the game, however. Namely, the health of their starting quarterback, Geno Smith.

Smith was injured near the end of their game last week against the Green Bay Packers — whom the Vikings will face in Week 16. Smith left the game with a knee injury and was replaced by backup Sam Howell, who struggled mightily with the Packers defense to close out their 30-13 loss.

According to Seahawks head coach Mike MacDonald, all signs are positive for Smith heading into a pivotal matchup with the Vikings, and he should be able to practice all week and play on Sunday.

The Seahawks certainly have a better chance of things with Smith at the helm than Howell, but with the efficacy with which the Vikings’ defense gets after quarterbacks, having a hobbled one back there could prove to be insurmountable for the Seattle offense. That would put Minnesota one step closer to capping off possibly the most improbable season in franchise history.

Pat Surtain full, Riley Moss limited on Broncos’ injury report Tuesday

Broncos CB Pat Surtain (ankle) was a full participant and CB Riley Moss (knee) was limited at Tuesday’s practice.

The Denver Broncos held a walk-through practice on Tuesday and cornerback Pat Surtain (ankle) fully participated after previously being listed as an estimated full participant on Monday. The cornerback told Broncos Wire at a charity event on Monday that his ankle is “better.”

Meanwhile, fellow cornerback Riley Moss (knee) was limited on Tuesday after being listed as a non-participant Monday. Moss was spotted working out on the field before the team’s game against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, but his Week 16 status is uncertain.

If Moss is unable to play against the Los Angeles Chargers on Thursday Night Football, Kris Abrams-Draine and Damarri Mathis would be the candidates to replace him in the lineup.

Assuming Surtain is able to suit up on Thursday, he would start across from one of Moss, Abrams-Draine or Mathis with Ja’Quan McMillian playing in the slot.

Denver’s complete Tuesday injury report can be seen below. DNP = did not participate.

CB Pat Surtain (ankle) Full Full
DL John Franklin-Myers (foot) DNP DNP

The Broncos will release their final injury report on Wednesday.

Brian O’Neill injury vs. Bears: Latest news on Vikings RT

The Minnesota Vikings’ offense took a blow in the first half against the Chicago Bears with an injury to right tackle Brian O’Neill.

(This story was updated to add new information.)

The Minnesota Vikings came into their Week 15 Monday Night Football matchup against division rivals the Chicago Bears with a golden opportunity. With a win, they would control their own destiny in the NFC playoff picture thanks to the Detroit Lions’ loss on Sunday to the Buffalo Bills.

In the first half, the Vikings came out like a team, fully aware of the magnitude of their situation. The defense came out and stonewalled the Bears’ offense early, forcing an early turnover on downs and coming away with a strip sack and recovery on consecutive possessions. Throw in a Justin Jefferson touchdown and a couple of field goals, and it all amounts to a 13-0 lead at the half.

Unfortunately for the Vikings, it’s not all good news, as they appear to have lost their starting right tackle, Brian O’Neill, to a leg injury.

Brian O’Neill injury update

O’Neill was initially injured in the first quarter after a running play to Aaron Jones. O’Neill was looked at on the field by the training staff, but was able to leave the field under his own power. He was evaluated in the blue medical tent for a few minutes and then returned to the game.

O’Neill’s return was short-lived, however, as he would leave the game again a couple of minutes before halftime. This time, O’Neill went straight to the locker room to be further evaluated by the Vikings’ training staff. He is back in the game once again, but we will monitor his injury.

How long will O’Neill be out?

It appeared that O’Neill was going to be okay when he came back into the game after the initial injury. O’Neill only missed a handful of plays at first and came back looking like nothing was wrong. Needing to leave the game a second time certainly isn’t a good sign, but as of now, he is back in the game once again, and we will monitor his injury.

Vikings offensive tackle depth chart

With O’Neill out, the right tackle duties will fall on long-time swing tackle David Quessenberry. Quessenberry has already had plenty of playing time this season, filling in on the left side for injured left tackle Christian Darrisaw prior to the Vikings’ acquisition of former Jaguars left tackle Cam Robinson.

Pat Surtain full, Riley Moss DNP on Broncos’ estimated injury report

Broncos CB Pat Surtain (ankle) was listed as a full participant on the team’s estimated Monday injury report.

The Denver Broncos did not practice on Monday, but the team was required to release an estimated injury report because they play on Thursday this week.

Broncos cornerback Pat Surtain (ankle) was listed as a full participant while fellow defensive back Riley Moss (knee) was listed as a non-participant.

If Surtain and Moss were not able to play on Thursday Night Football against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 16, Kris Abrams-Drain and Damarri Mathis would presumably be the next men up to start at the outside cornerback spots with Ja’Quan McMillian playing in the slot.

After that trio, the Broncos’ remaining depth at cornerback consists of special teams ace Tremon Smith and veteran Levi Wallace, who was a healthy scratch on Sunday after he struggled in Week 13.

At the moment, though, it appears that PS2 is good to go. We’ll see if Moss is able to practice at all later this week.

Elsewhere on the injury front, running back Jaleel McLaughlin (quad), defensive lineman D.J. Jones (finger) and defensive lineman John Franklin-Myers (foot) were listed as non-participants.

Denver’s complete (estimated) injury report can be seen below. DNP = did not participate.

Player Mon Tue Wed Game Status
CB Pat Surtain (ankle) Full
DL John Franklin-Myers (foot) DNP
DL D.J. Jones (finger) DNP
RB Jaleel McLaughlin (quad) DNP
CB Riley Moss (knee) DNP

The Broncos will release two more injury reports later this week before announcing game statuses for Thursday’s game in Los Angeles.

Lions lose DT Alim McNeill and CB Carlton Davis to long-term injuries

Lions lose DT Alim McNeill for the season and CB Carlton Davis for at least the rest of the regular season to injuries

Another week down in the NFL and another set of injuries occur to the Detroit Lions defense. To this point, when was the last time the Lions played a game without any sort of significant injury to one of their defensive players? It feels like since July, they’ve been hampered by injuries.

After yesterday’s loss to the Buffalo Bills, it was evident that cornerback Carlton Davis and defensive tackle Alim McNeill were injured. Both players were helped off the field, and it didn’t take long for announcements that both players were out for the game.

For McNeill, he will be done for the season as he tore his ACL. It’s unfortunate as he had been playing at such a high level for much of the season. According to PFF, McNeill has earned a 78.9 overall grade (10th in DL rankings) this season. He recorded 33 hurries (4th) and 40 total pressures (11th) with 4 sacks on the year. The Lions do have DJ Reader, but replacing McNeill will be tough this late into the season.

As for Carlton Davis, he suffered a broken jaw and will need surgery. He’s set to miss up to sixweeks due to the injury. If all goes right for the Lions, they could have Davis back for the NFC Championship. Prior to the injury, Davis had been playing some of his best football.

Since Week 9, Davis had an overall grade of 83.1 (among players with a minimum of 100 snaps played), per PFF. He also has a coverage grade of 86.4, which leads the league as well. The Lions will need to get creative in replacing Davis. Not just because of how productive he’s been but his backup, Khalil Dorsey, is also going to miss the rest of the season with a fractured leg that he suffered against Buffalo.

The Lions certainly control their own destiny, but the injuries continue to mount for their defense. That makes it difficult to believe they find ways to stop the opposition moving forward. Despite there being a small glimmer of hope for the Lions to win the Super Bowl, one thing is for sure: never count a Dan Campbell-led football team out.

Injury updates for Broncos CB Pat Surtain after Colts game

Denver Broncos CB Pat Surtain is dealing with an ankle injury. Here are the latest updates.

Story update: The Broncos released an estimated injury report on Monday and Surtain was listed as a full participant, which seems like a great sign. See our original post below.

Denver Broncos cornerback Pat Surtain left Sunday’s game against the Indianapolis Colts with an ankle injury in the fourth quarter.

The star cornerback appeared to first suffer the injury after being tackled by Colts wide receiver Josh Downs in the fourth quarter after Surtain intercepted an Anthony Richardson pass. Surtain later returned to the game and seemingly reaggravated the injury and then left and did not return.

After an eventual 31-13 win for the Broncos, coach Sean Payton said the team did not consider resting Surtain while leading in the fourth quarter.

“Anything we do relative to a player’s injury is always if the medical staff feels like he can go back in and he’s healthy enough,” Payton said. “There is never any, ‘Well we don’t need him now.’ It is just strictly, is he healthy enough to play? If he’s not, he won’t. If he is, he will play. I think that is the only way you can approach things like that.”

Pat Surtain injury update

Surtain’s father tweeted that he expects PS2 to be fine, but that tweet seemed to merely be speculation. Surtain was spotted walking in the locker room after the victory without a noticeable limp. Brandon Krisztal of Guerilla Sports reported after the game that it’s a low ankle sprain. That report was followed up on Monday morning by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport tweeting that Surtain is “believed to be dealing with a minor ankle sprain.” We’ll know more on Surtain’s status when the Broncos return to practice later this week.

How long will Pat Surtain be out?

Denver has a short week before facing the Los Angeles Chargers on Thursday Night Football in Week 16. It’s unclear if Surtain will be available for that game against the Chargers.

Broncos cornerback depth chart

With Riley Moss (knee) also sidelined, Denver is getting thin at cornerback. Kris Abrams-Drain and Damarri Mathis ended Sunday’s game as the team’s two outside cornerbacks with Ja’Quan McMillian playing in the slot. Besides them, the Broncos also have special teams ace Tremon Smith and veteran Levi Wallace, who was a healthy scratch in Week 15.

Pat Surtain’s dad reacts to cornerback’s injury vs. Colts

“He got that Nolia blood…he’ll be fine🙏🏾🙏🏾,” Pat Surtain’s dad tweeted on Sunday.

Story update: The Broncos released an estimated injury report on Monday and Surtain was listed as a full participant, which seems like a great sign. See our original post below.

Pat Surtain Sr. took to Twitter/X to react to his son’s ankle injury against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday afternoon.

“Nooooooo!!” the elder Surtain tweeted, a sentiment undoubtedly shared by Denver Broncos fans across the country.

The Broncos’ cornerback was hit hard by Colts wide receiver Josh Downs in the fourth quarter after Surtain intercepted an Anthony Richardson pass. Surtain initially seemed to be OK and he returned the game only to later go down with what the team described as an ankle injury.

With a short week before facing the Los Angeles Chargers on Thursday Night Football, Surtain’s status will be in doubt going into Week 16.

Surtain’s dad later tweeted that he expects PS2 to be fine.

“He got that Nolia blood…he’ll be fine🙏🏾🙏🏾,” Surtain tweeted.

Surtain finished Sunday’s game with two pass breakups, one tackle and one interception. He now has 10 PBUs and four INTs through 13 games this year. The 24-year-old cornerback missed one game earlier this season with a concussion. Fans in Denver will now hope Surtain is able to recovery in time for Thursday’s game against the Chargers.
