Report: Nets among teams Kentucky’s Immanuel Quickley met with

Immanuel Quickley is expected to be selected in the latter third of the second round of the 2020 NBA Draft.

After a rather tame freshman season at Kentucky, Immanuel Quickley erupted for the Wildcats as a sophomore. The 6-foot-3 guard averaged 16.1 points per game on 41.7% shooting (42.8% from 3-point territory), earning SEC Player of the Year honors.

The 21-year-old guard is set to take the next step in his basketball career, having decided to enter the 2020 NBA Draft.

Although Quickley received the SEC’s highest honor in 2020, he’s projected slip all the way into the late second round of the draft. Between his long-range shooting ability and his motor, the guard could turn into a 3-and-D option in the NBA — one who doesn’t need the ball in his hands to create his offense — making him an appealing candidate for the Nets should he slip to No. 55.

According to Adam Zagoria of Forbes, Brooklyn is, in fact, interested in the guard. The Nets, along with the Boston Celtics, New York Knicks, Detroit Pistons and Oklahoma City Thunder have each met with Quickley, per Zagoria.

NBA players react on social media to the season restart opener

Whether it was the pre-game social justice display, or the gameplay, players were very happy to see NBA back in action.

The NBA season restart tipped off Thursday night as the Utah Jazz matched up against the New Orleans Pelicans at HP Field House at the Wide World of Sports Complex near Orlando, Florida.

The evening began with the players and coaches each taking the court in “Black Lives Matter” warm-up shirts. Players and coaches then locked arms while the NBA played a public service announcement about systemic racism. Eventually, the referees joined the players and coaches to take a knee during the playing of the national anthem to protest racism.

The pre-game ceremonies were praised on social media ahead of the start of the contest as social injustices and racism have become front and center worldwide. The stated goal of the season restart is to take collective action to combat systematic racial inequalities and promote social justice as players raise awareness for key issues.

Following the symbolic gesture, the NBA officially resumed the 2019-20 season. Fittingly, after becoming the first player publicly to test positive for the coronavirus, Jazz center Rudy Gobert scored the first basket of the season restart. Quickly after, Pelicans rookie Zion Williamson converted an And-1 attempt on the other end of the floor.

Whether it was the social justice display prior to the start of the game, or the gameplay between the two teams, players around the NBA were very happy to see league back in action.

Kentucky guard Immanuel Quickley mocked to Sixers at 36 overall

Kentucky Wildcats point guard Immanuel Quickley has been mocked to the Philadelphia 76ers.

The draft situation for the Philadelphia 76ers is a bit fluid at the moment as the team waits to see whether their first-round pick will convey for 2020, but that will depend on how the Oklahoma City Thunder fare in the NBA’s resumption in Orlando.

While that pick is not guaranteed, they do have four picks in Round 2 of the draft that can also help the team if they play their cards right. In the past, general manager Elton Brand has not utilized those second-round picks as much before–and that could remain the case in 2020–but if he does decide to use those picks, there are some options for him to choose from.

With their first pick in Round 2 at 36, they could look at a backup point guard option. He can also help the Sixers with their plan to move Ben Simmons off the ball a bit more. With this pick, Rookie Wire has mocked Kentucky point guard Immanuel Quickley to Philadelphia.

Rookie Wire on Quickley:

Immanuel Quickley earned SEC Player of the Year honors, as voted on by coaches, after averaging 21.3 points per game in February. His free-throw shooting (92.3%) ranked sixth-best among all underclassmen, and he has the most productive floater of all prospects in this class. Quickley was one of the most improved players in college basketball after his freshman year. He would provide some of the shooting help that Philadelphia desperately will need moving forward.

Quickley could be a long-term project, but that shooting ability is going to be a huge asset to the Sixers. If Philadelphia were to make a move for the Kentucky prospect, he could become a solid player for this team in the future. [lawrence-related id=33261,33254,33248]

Over the years, the Kentucky Wildcats men’s basketball program has established a rich history of success and has helped send dozens of players to the NBA.

As the 2019-20 season began, 29 players on NBA opening night rosters played and finished their careers at Kentucky, the most by any program in the country. In 10 seasons under head coach John Calipari, 38 players have been selected in the NBA Draft, and the program is poised for more this year.

Former Kentucky guard Immanuel Quickley, a projected first-round pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, hosted a Q&A on Twitter on Saturday night and was asked to name his favorite Kentucky player of all-time.

Wall is one of three No. 1 overall picks in the NBA to have played under Calipari at Kentucky, joining Anthony Davis and Karl-Anthony Towns. Wall was named the 2010 SEC Player of the Year after averaging 16.6 points, 6.5 assists and 4.3 rebounds in 37 games played as a freshman.

Quickley had quite a freshman campaign of his own, too.

The 6-foot-3 guard was also named the SEC Player of the Year and was a member of the All-SEC First Team after averaging 16.1 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.9 assists while he shot 42.8% from 3-point range.

After indicating last month that he would be signing with an agent, former Kentucky guard Immanuel Quickley announced on Friday that he has signed with Roc Nation Sports ahead of the NBA Draft.

Quickley joins fellow draft prospect Isaiah Stewart to join Roc Nation Sports while all three of the Ball brothers also announced last month that they would sign with the agency started by Jay-Z in 2013. The company also represents Kyrie Irving, Skylar Diggins-Smith and Markelle Fultz among others.

Quickley averaged 16.1 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.9 assists in 30 games played with Kentucky while he shot 42.8% from 3-point range. He shot 92.3% from the free-throw line, ranking sixth-best among all underclassmen in the country.

Quickly struggled during his freshman campaign, averaging just 5.2 points in 37 games, but bounced back in a big way during the 2019-20 season and established himself as a potential first-round prospect. He ranks 32nd on the latest 2020 Rookie Wire NBA Draft Big Board.

The Washington Wizards have been …

The Washington Wizards have been gathering as much information as possible by interacting with prospects on video conference calls. They recently spoke with Immanuel Quickley of Kentucky and have plans this week to interview Jalen Smith of Maryland, NBC Sports Washington has learned. Both players are projected first round picks. The Wizards also interviewed Arizona big man Zeke Nnaji, who is expected to fall in the late second round or go undrafted.

3 2020 NBA Draft sleepers the Philadelphia 76ers should pay attention to

Here are the three sleepers the Philadelphia 76ers should keep an eye on in the 2020 NBA Draft.

In every NBA Draft, there are always a few sleepers. Those guys who are productive players, but they somehow just go unnoticed and NBA scouts just miss that guy.

The 2020 NBA Draft is no different and for the Philadelphia 76ers, who have a total of five draft picks, there are a few sleepers that they should keep an eye on.

We are going to highlight three players in this edition, one for their first-round pick at 22, and two more for their four second-round picks to look at. Their four picks in Round 2 are 34, 36, 49, and 59 per Tankathon. The Sixers are notorious for selling off their second-round picks, so it is unlikely that they use all four of those picks.

With that said, let’s get into it!
