High School Football Rewind: Watch this wild Hail Mary in top Idaho matchup

That’s what happened this past weekend when the top two high school football teams in Idaho met up.

They don’t call it a Hail Mary for no reason. Anything can happen when the ball is in the air, with a half-dozen players in the end zone waiting to make a play on it.

Sometimes the prayer of a pass is answered, though, which happened this past weekend when the top two high school football teams in Idaho met up.

Watch Rocky Mountain complete an improbable Hail Mary pass against Meridian in crunch time.

As exciting as that was, Rocky Mountain (now 6-1) failed on the ensuing two-point conversion try. Meridian won the game 14-12 and remains undefeated (6-0) on the season. Next up, they face Capital (Idaho) on Friday.

Idaho high school receiver makes OBJ-like catch

With a defender draped over his, Idaho HS football player Ja’Vonte King made an OBJ-like catch.

To truly glimpse just how much talent high school football players have, you must venture outside the hotspots of the game. Occasionally, you’ll find a player who can make plays like Ja’Vonte King, a junior wide receiver from Blackfoot High School in Idaho.

King, with a tie game in the third quarter, rose up over a defender and made a leaping 38-yard grab that would make Odell Beckham Jr. proud.

With a defender draped all over him, King went full extension with his right arm to make a one-handed catch and set Blackfoot up for a touchdown not long after in the drive.

Check out these photos taken by Kyle Riley of the Idaho State Journal:

King tacked on a 45-yard touchdown to finish the game with five catches for 137 yards.

He helped Blackfoot get its first win of the season. After dropping the first two games, Blackfoot took down Snake River (Blackfoot, Idaho) 35-21.

King is a 6-foot-4, 200-pound junior and a two-sport athlete, according to the Idaho State Journal. He doesn’t have any college offers on his 247Sports page, but if he keeps making catches like this, that could soon change.

Idaho high school football game halted at halftime after parent refuses to wear mask

A high school football game in Idaho was called off at halftime on Friday night when a parent refused to comply with mask orders.

A high school football game in Idaho was called off at halftime on Friday night when a parent refused to comply with mask orders.

With Emmett High School leading host Caldwell High School 35-0 at halftime, players and coaches were sent home because of one parent’s refusal to wear a mask. According to Nicole Foy of the Idaho Statesman, Ammon Bundy, who has a son on Emmett’s varsity team, was involved in the controversy.

Bundy’s name might seem familiar, as he was at the center of an armed occupation of a wildlife refuge in Oregon in 2016. Bundy was also arrested twice in August for protesting mask orders at the Idaho State Capitol building in Boise.

“I’m very disappointed that our kids lost the chance to be able to play a Friday night football game,” Caldwell school board president Marisela Pesina said following the incident. “Our parents have been following the rules and it makes me sad that because someone wants to prove their point, we had to stop our game.”

According to Pesina, district rules require parents and fans to wear masks and practice social distancing. Bundy not only refused to wear a mask, but also refused to leave school property. Caldwell police officers were called to the scene and school officials decided to stop the game at halftime after “a threat to the safety of the school” was made.

“Canyon County dispatch began receiving multiple calls from unidentified callers threatening acts of violence at the game stemming from the dispute over masks,” Caldwell Police Department Spokesman Joe Hoadley said Saturday “At which time the decision was made to cancel the game for the safety of students and fans.”
