Ice Vols move to College Hockey Federation

The SECHC and the Ice Vols will play in the College Hockey Federation.

KNOXVILLE — The South Eastern Collegiate Hockey Conference recently announced that it has changed affiliations.

The club league, which features the Tennessee Ice Vols, will move from the American College Hockey Association to the College Hockey Federation, a Division II club league.

Both the SECHC and the Southern Collegiate Hockey Conference announced their respective moves Sunday in media releases and on social media posts via Twitter.

The two southern college leagues have aligned with the Upstate New York Club Hockey League, which has its offices in Syracuse, New York.

The Ice Vols are the oldest college hockey club team in the South. The club was founded in 1966.

The CHF is set to begin play in Jan. 2021.

KNOXVILLE — The University of Tennessee hockey club picked up an in-state player when Gavin Damewood signed to play college hockey in Knoxville.

Damewood, a 19-year old forward from Station Camp High School in Gallatin, played his prep hockey for the Hendersonville Commandos, a top program in the Blue Division in the Nashville Area.

The Ice Vols have signed several players this month including Aidan Vanston (goaltender), Nolan Carlson (defenseman); Maclain Chaney (left winger), E.J. Paulhardt (defenseman), Parker Wyatt (forward) and Matt Megazinni (forward).

The Ice Vols were founded in 1966 and are the oldest collegiate hockey team in the South.

KNOXVILLE — The players just keep coming to Knoxville to play for the Tennessee Ice Vols hockey club.

The Ice Vols announced their latest signee Thursday and it is Kieran Ogle, a 21-year old forward from the Nashville suburb of Mt. Juliet.

Ogle, a forward, plays for the Nashville Jr. Predators. He stands 6-foot-1 and weighs in a 154-pounds and is a right-handed shooter.

He joins a 2020-21 signing class that includes six other players including Aidan Vanston (goalkeeper), Nolan Carlson (defenseman), Maclain Chaney (left winger), E.J. Paulhardt (defenseman), Parker Wyatt (forward) and Matt Megazzini (forward).

KNOXVILLE — The Tennessee Ice Vols hockey club added two more signees to its 2020 signing class.

Tennessee picked up goaltender Aiden Vanston and defenseman Nolan Carlson.

Vanston played at Brentwood High School in Middle Tennessee while Carlson is transferring from Stonehill College in Easton, Massachusetts.

Carlson is a native of Seekonk, a town in Massachusetts.

Vanston and Carlson join a signing class at Tennessee that includes Maclain Chaney (a left winger from San Jose, Calif.); E.J. Paulhardt (a defenseman from Canton, Ohio); Parker Wyatt (a forward from Maine) and Matt Megazzini (a forward from Illinois).

The Ice Vols were founded in 1966 and boast being the oldest collegiate hockey team in the South.

Tennessee competes in the American College Hockey Association and the South Eastern Collegiate Hockey Conference.

KNOXVILLE — The University of Tennessee hockey club had its 2020 Signing Day recently and the Ice Vols announced there 2020-21 incoming class earlier this month.

The Ice Vols, who were founded in 1966 and are the oldest college hockey club in the South, announced their four new signees on Thursday, April 9 and Friday, April 10.

The incoming class includes Maclain Chaney, E.J. Paulhardt, Parker Wyatt and Matt Megazzini.

Chaney, a 6-foot-3, 180-pond left winger, comes to Rocky Top from San Jose, California. There, the left-handed shooter plays for the San Jose Jr. Sharks.

Paulhardt hails from Canton, Ohio. The 5-foor-10, 180-pound defenseman plays for the Canton-Akron Jets. He’s also a left-handed shooter.

Wyatt, a forward, comes to Tennessee from Falmouth, Maine, where he plays for New England Prep. He is 5-foot-10 and weighs 175-pounds and has a right-handed shot.

Megazzini, a 6-foot-4, 220-pound forward, hails from Yorkville, Illinois. He has a left-handed shot and played his high school hockey at Joliet Catholic Academy.

The Ice Vols are members of the American College Hockey Association and they compete in the South Eastern Collegiate Hockey Conference.

KNOXVILLE — Five members of the 2019-20 University of Tennessee hockey club were named academic All-Americans by the American College Hockey Association.

Drew King, Michael Garcia, Andrew Hubert, Josh Maine and Ryan Seibert were selected to the ACHA Division 3 Academic All-American Team.

King is a sophomore forward from Marietta, Georgia.

Garcia hails from Nashville and is a sophomore for the Ice Vols, who were founded in 1966 and are the oldest college hockey team in the South.

Hubert, a junior defenseman, is from the Washington, D.C. suburb of Haymarket, Virginia.

Maine, a junior defenseman, was a high school standout for the Knoxville Knights, a high school club team in the Knoxville Amateur Hockey Association. He was a captain for the Knights during his high school days.

Seibert is a junior defenseman. He was the third member of the Ice Vols from Tennessee to receive academic honors, as he is a native of Murfreesboro.
