Report: Ian Rapoport doesn’t think anything is imminent with Nick Bosa and 49ers

In a recent interview on The Pat McAfee Show, Ian Rapoport spoke about the contract situation between the 49ers and All-Pro pass rusher Nick Bosa.

With the Trey Lance saga coming to an end, the San Francisco 49ers still have business to attend to with one of their star players. As he seeks a new mega contract with the 49ers, Nick Bosa has been holding out of training camp.

With the start of the season a little under two weeks away, Bosa’s holdout with the 49ers doesn’t seem to be coming to an end soon. In an interview on The Pat McAfee Show, Ian Rapoport says he doesn’t get the sense that anything is imminent with the All-Pro pass rusher and the 49ers.

However, Rapoport says the 49ers’ offer is “substantial” and he’s confident that his looming deal will make him the highest-paid edge rusher in the NFL.

Listen to Rappaport’s full explanation via @PatMcAfeeShow on Twitter:

Bosa is coming off a Defensive Player of the Year campaign, racking up a league-high 18.5 sacks along with 19 tackles for loss and 48 quarterback hits.

In four seasons, Bosa has earned bids to the Pro Bowl three times, along with being named to the NFL All-Pro team once. Bosa has spent his entire career with San Francisco after being drafted by the 49ers with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2019 NFL draft.

Ian Rapoport shares perspective on Alvin Kamara-Roger Goodell meeting

Ian Rapoport shared perspective on Wednesday’s Alvin Kamara-Roger Goodell meeting and what a suspension might mean for the Saints’ season:

The NFL world is waiting to see what comes out of Alvin Kamara’s sit-down conversation with league commissioner Roger Goodell on Wednesday, where Kamara is expected to share his side of the story from an incident that led to his arrest last year. The New Orleans Saints running back was excused from training camp practice so he could take the owner’s private jet to New York and do what he could to limit the length of a potential suspension from the NFL home office.

And here’s NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport sharing some perspective on Kamara’s motivation for the meeting and what he seeks to accomplish. Rapoport discussed the issue with his colleague Mike Garafolo, who anticipates a suspension for Kamara to start the season.

“I’m with you Mike, I’m kind of on the same page here,” Rapoport began. “I would expect a suspension for Alvin Kamara but what’s going to determine whether it’s two games, four games, six games; potentially what was behind it; why did Alvin Kamara do what he appears to have done; the altercation that he was in in that video. Is there something he can talk to with Goodell to make him at least have some understanding and realize what led to that altercation. Obviously the background there in that conversation will be key.”

We’ll soon see whether Kamara found much sympathy from Goodell in this meeting, so stay tuned for updates. The Saints open the 2023 regular season at home against the Tennessee Titans on Sept. 10.

NFL insider on the Commanders: ‘They’re not changing the name’

There were many hoping that Josh Harris would consider another name change.

[connatix div_id=”3f8b015acdd24c648befc5d5dac47469″ player_id=”afe1e038-d3c2-49c0-922d-6511a229f69c” cid=”7cbcea0d-4ce2-4c75-9a8d-fbe02a192c24″]

The Washington Commanders will be sold soon. Yeah, we’ve seemingly heard that time and time again, but the deal has been signed by outgoing owner Daniel Snyder and new owner Josh Harris.

All we are waiting for now is approval from the other NFL owners. Harris took another step forward last week when he, Mitchell Rales, and others met with the NFL finance committee in New York.

One of the topics many fans want to discuss is whether Harris would entertain another name change from the Commanders. A large portion of Washington’s fan base was unhappy with the entire rebrand, especially the name, and have been vocal about it. Some former players have made it clear how they feel about the name.

There are others who don’t mind the name and another segment that just wants to win regardless of the name.

Harris and his group face many things when they take over. No. 1, of course, is a new stadium. Another possible rebranding doesn’t appear to be high on Harris’ list.

Yet, that hasn’t stopped many from hoping.

On Friday, NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport was a guest on “The Pat McAfee Show,” where they discussed the Commanders’ sale.

At the end of the segment, Rapoport, unprompted by McAfee, said the following:

“And they’re not changing the name.”

Rapoport wouldn’t say this unless he’d been definitely told it’s not happening. Sure, anything could happen, but it’s doubtful that Harris and his ownership group will be entering another rebranding process.

2023 NFL Draft: Bears could be looking to move up in the 2nd round

Bears could be looking to reacquire the No. 32 overall pick they traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers for Chase Claypool.

The Chicago Bears will have to wait a bit to make their first selection of Day 2 of the 2023 NFL Draft. Or will they? According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Bears have had conversations about moving up in the draft, possibly as high as No. 32, the first pick of the round currently held by the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Rapoport mentions a number of teams who have inquired about moving up last night into the first round as it was winding down on Thursday evening and the Bears were one of them. Could they still be interested and put together a package to entice the Steelers? Interestingly enough, the No. 32 pick originally belonged to the Bears before they dealt it in exchange for wide receiver Chase Claypool.

Without that pick, Bears aren’t on the clock again until No. 53 with the selection they acquired from the Baltimore Ravens in exchange for Roquan Smith. That would be 43 slots in between the Bears’ first pick of the draft where they selected Tennessee offensive tackle Darnell Wright with the No. 10 pick.

Should the Bears look to move up all the way to No. 32, it could cost the Bears a pretty penny, including one of their future first-round picks. But there are quite a few prospects still on the board with first-round grades such as cornerback Joey Porter Jr., safety Brian Branch, and tight end Michael Mayer. Perhaps they have their eye on someone they know won’t be available later on.

Report: Lamar Jackson has agreed to a 5-year deal with the Ravens

It is being reported that Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens have agreed to a 5-year deal.

The Baltimore Ravens and Lamar Jackson have been engaged in contract talks for the better part of a year, with many twists and turns in the situation. However, on Thursday Ian Rapoport of NFL Network was one of many that reported that Jackson and the Ravens have agreed to a deal.  This now ends a couple years of drama between the two sides, with

A few days ago Jackson tweeted out a GIF of Sponge bob and that made everyone wonder what was happening.  Once the news of Jackson agreeing to the deal, the official Ravens twitter account tweeted out the same GIF.

Ravens QB Lamar Jackson, Ravens making major progress on long-term agreement

It is being reported that a deal between the Ravens and Lamar Jackson could happen very soon.

Tonight is the first night of the 2023 NFL Draft, and the Baltimore Ravens have the 22nd overall pick.  The team only has five picks, with none in the second round as of now.  With all that going on, the Lamar Jackson contract situation is still up in the air.

It is now being reported by Jay Glazer of Fox Sports, that major progress has been made between Lamar Jackson and the Ravens.  He is saying that a deal could be done very soon, without any hiccups.  This is all good news for the NFL, Lamar Jackson, and the Ravens organization.

The quarterback situation would now be solidified, and the team would be able to make addition moves with the potential of gaining more cap space whenever the dollar amount is reveal, when a deal is signed.

Ravens to host Florida QB Anthony Richardson on Wednesday

The Baltimore Ravens are hosting Florida Gators quarterback Anthony Richardson on Wednesday

The Baltimore Ravens are getting ready for the upcoming 2023 NFL Draft that starts on Thursday, April 27th.  They’ve been setting up meetings with potential first round picks that could fall to them at No. 22 in the first round, with prospects coming from all different positions on the field.

Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reported that the Ravens are hosting University of Florida quarterback Anthony Richardson on Wednesday. Some of the 6-foot-4 sophomore’s skills can be compared to Lamar Jackson, so it doesn’t hurt for Baltimore to at least check in on him just in case something happens in the draft.

Star Penn State CB reportedly visits Ravens.

A star Penn State cornerback reportedly visited the Ravens

The Baltimore Ravens have the 22nd pick in the upcoming 2023 NFL Draft.  They currently house five total picks, but could make some moves to increase that total during draft weekend.  The cornerback position is one where the Ravens will like to improve based on Marcus Peters possibly not coming back.

Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reported that cornerback Joey Porter Jr. is visiting the Ravens. The son of former Pittsburgh Steeler Joey Porter Sr. has been a popular mock draft pick for Baltimore by multiple analysts and experts.

It would be interesting to see if the Baltimore Ravens do draft Joey Porter Jr.  The 6’2 corner is one of the best players in the draft.  Porter Jr only had one interception in his Penn State career, but that could mean that teams didn’t want to test him and targeted the other side.

Are Chiefs involved in trade talks for Cardinals WR DeAndre Hopkins?

A new report suggests that trade talks for #Cardinals WR DeAndre Hopkins are “ramping up,” Are the #Chiefs one of the teams interested?

With the Dallas Cowboys trading for Houston Texans WR Brandin Cooks, the attention has shifted from the NFL’s free agency period back to the trade market.

Arizona Cardinals WR DeAndre Hopkins has been the subject of trade rumors for weeks, but there has been little tangible movement. Things are beginning to appear a bit more real for the five-time All-Pro and Pro Bowl wide receiver, though.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, trade talks surrounding Hopkins are “ramping up” among interested teams. Could the Kansas City Chiefs be among the interested parties? We know that one of their new free agent signings is certainly a fan of the idea. We also know the team has a need at the wide receiver position after losing JuJu Smith-Schuster to the New England Patriots. But what of the financial implications of making a trade for Hopkins? Let’s explore.

Part of Rapoport’s latest update suggested that a trade would likely include an “altered contract” for Hopkins. That doesn’t necessarily mean an extension, given that Cooks restructured his deal to create cap space for the Cowboys.

The Chiefs are projected to have around $9.5 million in salary cap space available before the recent signings of Drue Tranquill and Mike Edwards, but after the deal to bring back Nick Allegretti. Even if that $9.5 million was all available to Kansas City, the number wouldn’t be enough to cover his $19.45 million cap hit for 2023. K.C. would either have to do some other salary-cap clearing move to create space (there are still a few contracts they can restructure) or they’d have to work something out with Hopkins to lower that number. That could be an extension with some extra years of funny money tacked on. There’s also a chance that they could offer Arizona a greater level of compensation so that they could eat some more of the costs in 2023.

Financials may or may not be restrictive for the Chiefs in a hypothetical trade for Hopkins, but they certainly shouldn’t stop them from engaging in talks, if there are talks to be had as Rapoport’s report would suggest.

NFL insider expects Daniel Jones’ contract to be less than what’s been reported

Ian Rapoport can’t confirm the rumored $45 million ask from Daniel Jones and says he expects the final number to come in lower than that.

Rumors that quarterback Daniel Jones asked for $45 million annually from the New York Giants remain unsubstantiated. There are some who still “believe” that’s the case but it’s nothing anyone can confirm.

Still, the rumors have spread like wildfire, and it has led some Giants fans to do some questionable things.

Late last week, one Giants fan took it upon themselves to locate the building housing the offices of two Athletes First agents that represent Jones. They then adorned the building marquee with a message demanding Jones “gratefully accept” whatever the Giants offer.

But all the outrage and questionable decision-making may be for naught.

During a Monday appearance on the Pat McAfee Show, NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport said that Jones’ final contract numbers will be less than what’s been reported.

However, Rapoport cautioned that Jones could still get paid a good chunk of change based on where the market currently sits.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if it came in and the number started with a 4,” Rapoport said. “The market for quarterbacks is either $40 (million) and above or other. I mean, it’s the good ones who are your franchise quarterback or it’s the, with all due respect, (the others).

“In negotiations, everyone asks for more, the team offers less, and then you settle in the middle. So him asking for $45 (million), I don’t know for sure that that demand or request was made in negotiations, and if it was that would be fine, but I expect the number to come in less than that regardless.”

As those of us at Giants Wire have been saying, there’s no need to read into the $45 million rumor and get bothered by it. There’s no confirmation that it’s true and even if it were, that’s common negotiating. If Jones’ agency weren’t starting at a high number and working backward they wouldn’t be doing their jobs.

Woosah, Giants fans. Woosah. Now leave the Athletes First building alone.
