In-state blue-chip S target to get another taste of Florida at Grill in the Ville

This 4-star safety will be among the many feasting in the Swamp this Saturday.

Florida football prepares to host a plethora of prep prospects from a range of recruiting classes in the Swamp for the first edition of its midsummer Grill in the Ville event, set for Saturday, July 29. The one-day affair is being put on by the program in an effort to build a closer relationship between Billy Napier and the Gators’ staff and up-and-coming recruits.

One of Florida’s top in-state targets from the 2025 recruiting cycle is four-star safety [autotag]Hylton Stubbs[/autotag] out of Jacksonville (Florida) Mandarin, who will be in attendance for the big cookout.

The 6-foot-2-inch-180-pound defensive back has been bullish on the Orange and Blue for a while after a visit during Junior Days in January, which was boosted further after participating in a 7-on-7 event in Gainesville back in late June. Still, the high school junior is currently experiencing a whirlwind of suitors and has no clear leader in his recruitment so far.

“It’s getting crazy right now, it’s getting crazy,” Stubbs told Swamp247’s Graham Hall, “but everything’s wide-open right now.”

That said, the Gators definitely appear to have the edge on the talented defensive back.

“It’s definitely a family environment up here,” Stubbs said. “I know a lot of the players, and they’re always telling me they’re always having a good time at Florida, so Florida, it’s always been a place I know I can go and have a good college career.”

Stubbs is ranked No. 77 overall and No. 8 at his position nationally according to the 247Sports composite while the On3 industry ranking has him at Nos. 83 and 7, respectively. On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine has Florida well in front with a 53.6% chance of signing him, followed by the Florida State Seminoles (10.1%), Georgia Bulldogs (8.7%) and Tennessee Volunteers (7.2%).

The Georgia Bulldogs have offered a scholarship to elite safety recruit Hylton Stubbs. Stubbs is a member of the class of 2025.

2025 Florida safety to visit Tennessee

2025 safety Hylton Stubbs will visit Tennessee.

Four-star safety Hylton Stubbs will visit Tennessee on June 2, according to Jeremy Johnson of On3.

The 6-foot-2, 175-pound safety transferred from Oakleaf High School (Orange Park, Florida) to Mandarin High School (Jacksonville, Florida) during the offseason.

Florida likely to get return visit from offered 2025 safety

Things went well when class of 2025 safety Hylton Stubbs visited Florida at the beginning of the year, and he’s looking into a return trip in the spring.

Florida recently hosted sophomore safety [autotag]Hylton Stubbs[/autotag] for one of the team’s Junior Days in January, and the Mandarin High product has his eyes set on a return visit for the spring, according to Gators Online.

The quick turnaround isn’t surprising given Stubbs’ proximity to Gainesville. Orange Park is maybe an hour and a half from Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, and Stubbs considers it a plus that UF is near home. Stubbs hasn’t locked in a date just yet, but he’s looking to plan something in March or April around his 7-on-7 schedule.

He recently named Florida State, Michigan, Oklahoma and Tennessee as his top four programs, but there’s plenty of time for Florida to rejoin the top of the pack with two years left in his recruitment. Getting him back on campus should help Florida’s chances.

“Those are my favorites right now, but I still have a long way to go,” Stubbs said. “I have to make sure I make the right choice because you can only go to one school.”

On3 lists Stubbs as a four-star recruit, but he has yet to receive a star rating from 247Sports, ESPN and Rivals. The On3 recruiting prediction machine now favors Florida over Tennessee at 45.3% odds. The Volunteers have a 20.8% chance to land him and Virginia Tech is a close third at 17.8%, according to the RPM.

In-state safety leaves Florida visit with offer in hand

Florida is getting to know some of the top in-state names in the class of 2025 as the team continues to host recruits over the month of January.

Oak Leaf (Orange Park, Florida) safety [autotag]Hylton Stubbs[/autotag] left Florida’s Jan. 21 Junior Day with an offer in hand, according to a social media post he made after the unofficial visit.

Stubbs, a rising prospect in the class of 2025, has been to the Swamp before, but as the recruiting process gets more serious, so do his visits. Florida checks off a lot of boxes Stubbs. The academics are there, the facilities have been upgraded and the coaching staff is settled after a year in the Swamp.

“I love the new facility they have there,” Stubbs said to Swamp247. “When the coaches were talking they seem like they are all about their football players. Good communication and they were telling me how they are big on their players getting their education, and I think they said they have like a 92-percent graduation rate on the team. It’s just like they don’t set anyone up for failure. You are set up for greatness.”

During his visit, outside linebackers coach Mike Peterson, safeties coach and defensive coordinator [autotag]Patrick Toney[/autotag] and head coach [autotag]Billy Napier[/autotag] spent time with him, which helped Stubbs feel like a priority target. He called the visit offer a “dream come true,” but wouldn’t commit to naming any of his top schools just yet. Still, the Gators look like they are in pretty good shape with the sophomore.

Stubbs earned a four-star designation from On3 but has yet to receive a star rating from 247Sports, ESPN and Rivals. The On3 recruiting prediction machine favors Tennessee at 38.9% and Virginia Tech is a close second at 34.1%, but Florida could eat into the lead and make it a three-horse race after hosting him.
