[gambcom-standard rankid=”4141″ ]

The Carolina Hurricanes (20-10-1) pay a visit to the Washington Capitals (21-8-2) in a Metropolitan Division tussle Friday. The opening puck drop at Capital One Arena will be at 7 p.m. (ESPN+). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s NHL odds around the Hurricanes vs. Capitals odds and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

Season series: Carolina leads 1-0

The Hurricanes, winners of 3 of their last 4 (3-1-0), open a 4-game road trip with this contest. Carolina has not won on road since since Nov. 20 (0-3-1 over that span). The ‘Canes last played Tuesday, shutting out the New York Islanders 4-0. They’ve yielded just 1 goal over their last 2 games.

The Capitals, just 2-5-1 over their last 8 against Carolina, head into Friday’s tilt having lost their last 2 games. The most recent of those was Tuesday at the Chicago Blackhawks when Washington coughed up a late lead in a 3-2 defeat. The Caps led 2-0 through 2 periods and were up 2-1 heading into the final 7 minutes of play.

Hurricanes at Capitals projected goalies

Pyotr Kochetkov (13-5-0, 2.47 GAA, .902 SV%, 1 SO) vs. Charlie Lindgren (9-6-0, 2.69 GAA, .902 SV%)

Kochetkov earned the shutout in Tuesday’s game against the Isles. He stopped 32 of 32 pucks and has allowed just 4 goals over his last 3 starts.

Lindgren last played Monday at the Dallas Stars, allowing 3 goals on 24 shots. The 31-year-old was busy but solid when he faced Carolina Nov. 3. Lindgren stopped 41 of 44 in that one.

Hurricanes at Capitals picks and predictions

Prediction

Capitals 4, Hurricanes 3

Moneyline

The Caps are just 3-6-1 over their last 10 games against Carolina, and they haven’t logged a regulation win in the series since March 3, 2022.

The Hurricanes’ puck-possession figures of late have been outstanding. Comparisons of actual to expected goals for and against (5-on-5) favor the ‘Canes as well. They are the better club when it comes to scoring-chance differential and special teams.

That’s enough green check marks in the visitors’ column for this one. BET CAROLINA (-140).

Puck line/Against the spread

No interest; PASS.

Over/Under

The last 4 series meetings in D.C. have made for the Over going 3-1.

The goalie matchup doesn’t spell stop sign, and both sides have significantly underplayed their even-strength expected goal output over the last couple weeks or so. Both sides have more offense in the tank, and that spells value on the OVER 6 (+100).

Carolina Hurricanes at Washington Capitals odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Carolina Hurricanes at Washington Capitals odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Carolina Hurricanes (44-20-6) take on the Washington Capitals (33-26-9) Friday at Capital One Arena. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. ET (NHL Network). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Hurricanes vs. Capitals odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

Carolina is on the back end of a back-to-back after gutting out a 3-2 OT win against the Philadelphia Flyers Thursday night. C Seth Jarvis sent the crowd home happy with a goal nearly 90 seconds into the extra frame. Jarvis is on a heater with goals in 5 straight and 6 of 7. LW Teuvo Teravainen has missed action with an upper body ailment, so the added offense has been needed.

The Caps are still hanging around, 3 points out of a Wild Card spot. They’re coming off a 7-3 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs Wednesday. The setback snapped a 3-game winning streak. LW Alex Ovechkin netted 2 goals against Toronto and has 5 goals in his last 3 games to give him 23 on the season.

Hurricanes at Capitals projected goalies

Pyotr Kochetkov (19-12-3, 2.36 GAA, .913 SV%, 3 SO) vs. Darcy Kuemper (13-13-3, 3.29 GAA, .890 SV%, 1 SO)

Kochetkov was great in a 4-1 win over the New York Islanders Tuesday. He stopped 30 of 31 shots fired his way. He’s 3-2-0 with a 2.43 GAA and .921 SV% in 5 starts this month. He allowed 4 goals in 2 of those games and combined to allow 4 in the other 3 combined.

Kuemper was bodied for 7 goals on 37 shots in a 7-2 loss to the Edmonton Oilers Wednesday. He has allowed 3+ goals in 5 straight starts, which is the primary reason he has been relegated to backup duty. He was victorious in a 2-1 shootout finish Dec. 17 against Carolina and stopped 28 of 29.

Hurricanes at Capitals picks and predictions

Prediction

Hurricanes 4, Capitals 2

Moneyline

The Canes have won 5 straight and 8 of 9, but they’re on a back-to-back, and there’s no way I’d consider their -200 ML.

Instead, I’m going to take a chance here. Ovechkin has 5 goals in 3 games, and 3 of those came on the power play over the last 2. ALEX OVECHKIN OVER 0.5 POWER-PLAY POINTS (+250) gives you the insurance of an assist in case he doesn’t net one. The Canes are 12th in PIMs in the league, and it’s worth the shot for 2½ times your wager.

Puck line/Against the spread

I usually shy away from the puck line, because at this point of the season, the odds are so juiced that you incur more risk than reward. The Canes have won 8 of 10, and 6 of those were by multiple goals. They’ve had 2 back-to-back scenarios in this window, and they answered on the back end with 7-2 wins each time.

Take the HURRICANES -1.5 (+125).

Over/Under

We’re projecting a push here, so I’m going to another profitable prop.

As mentioned, Jarvis has goals in 5 straight games and 6 during the stretch. So, he’s feeling it. Now, he scored on his only SOG Thursday, but he has 3+ shots in 3 of his last 5 games. Take SETH JARVIS OVER 2.5 SHOTS (+130) or his anytime goal prop is at +210.

Carolina Hurricanes vs. Washington Capitals odds, picks, and predictions

Analyzing Monday’s Carolina Hurricanes at Washington Capitals odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Carolina Hurricanes (43-15-7) travel to meet the Washington Capitals (37-20-10) at Capital One Arena Monday. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET (NHLN). Below, we look at the Hurricanes vs. Capitals odds and lines, and make our expert NHL picks, predictions and bets.

The Hurricanes had scored 3 or fewer goals in 13 consecutive games from Feb. 27 to March 24 before breaking out offensively with a 7-2 rout of the St. Louis Blues Saturday at Enterprise Center.

The Capitals have won back-to-back games over the Buffalo Sabres Friday and New Jersey Devils Saturday by a 4-3 score. Washington heads into this game with three victories in three tries against Carolina, outscoring the Hurricanes by a 12-5 margin this season.

Hurricanes at Capitals odds, spread and lines

Odds provided by Tipico Sportsbook; access USA TODAY Sports Scores and Sports Betting Odds hub for a full list. Lines last updated at 7:11 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Hurricanes -135 (bet $135 to win $100) | Capitals +110 (bet $100 to win $110)
  • Against the spread (ATS): Hurricanes -1.5 (+175) | Capitals +1.5 (-240)
  • Over/Under (O/U): 6.5 (O: +105 | U: -130)

Hurricanes at Capitals projected goalies

Frederik Andersen (31-10-3, 2.07 GAA, .926 SV%, 3 SO) vs. Vitek Vanecek (17-9-5, 2.45 GAA, .917 SV%, 3 SO)

Andersen has managed a 2-3-1 mark in March despite a stellar 2.33 GAA and .903 SV%. That’s because the Hurricanes have scored just 14 total goals of support in his six March starts, including no goals in a 4-0 loss at Washington on March 3.

Vanecek snapped a two-game mini skid with a 4-3 win against the New Jersey Devils Saturday. He is 7-2-0 with a 2.66 GAA and .920 SV% in nine March starts, including that 4-0 win over the Canes earlier in the month.

Hurricanes at Capitals odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Capitals 3, Hurricanes 2

Money line

The CAPITALS (+110) are an outstanding value as home underdogs against a Hurricanes team they have beaten all three times they’ve met this season.

Washington has also won nine of its last 12 games at home while going 4-1 in its last five as an underdog.

Against the spread

Capitals +1.5 (-240) will cost you nearly two and half times your potential return if you’d like a little insurance. It’s not necessary, and you should PASS on the puck line and just play the Caps straight up.

Over/Under

UNDER 6.5 (-130) is the play here.

The Under is 8-3-1 in the past 12 games overall for the Hurricanes while going 7-3-1 in the past 11 against teams with a winning overall record.

The Over has been the norm for the Capitals lately, hitting in 10 of the previous 11 games overall, but the Over-Under is 1-1-1 in three meetings with the Canes this season. Look for a tight, lower-scoring game between these rivals.

Carolina Hurricanes at Washington Capitals odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Thursday’s Carolina Hurricanes at Washington Capitals odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Carolina Hurricanes (37-11-5) visit the Washington Capitals (28-18-9) Thursday at Capital One Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET (ESPN+/Hulu). Below, we look at the Hurricanes vs. Capitals odds and lines, and make our expert NHL picks, predictions and bets.

The Hurricanes had a five-game win streak snapped in Detroit Tuesday, falling 4-3 in overtime. The ‘Canes haven’t lost in regulation in their last seven games (5-0-2).

The Capitals are coming off a 5-3 setback against the visiting Toronto Maple Leafs Monday, losing a third straight game. Washington has been outscored 11-5 during the three-game skid.

Hurricanes at Capitals odds, spread and lines

Odds provided by Tipico Sportsbook; access USA TODAY Sports Scores and Sports Betting Odds hub for a full list. Lines last updated at 6:43 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Hurricanes -140 (bet $140 to win $100) | Capitals +115 (bet $100 to win $115)
  • Against the spread (ATS): Hurricanes -1.5 (+180) | Capitals +1.5 (-250)
  • Over/Under (O/U): 5.5 (O: -145 | U: +115)

Hurricanes at Capitals projected goalies

Frederik Andersen (29-7-2, 2.03 GAA, .930 SV%, 3 SO) vs. Vitek Vanecek (10-7-5, 2.36 GAA, .915 SV%, 2 SO)

Andersen enters on a four-game win streak, and he hasn’t lost in regulation in his last five starts (4-0-1). However, he lost his one start against the Caps this season, allowing 3 goals on 24 shots in a 4-2 loss in Raleigh Nov. 28.

Vanecek allowed just 1 goal in 17 shots of a relief appearance Monday against the Maple Leafs, who scored 3 first-period goals against starter Ilya Samsonov.

Hurricanes at Capitals odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Hurricanes 5, Capitals 2

Money line

The HURRICANES (-140) are worth a look as they look for revenge against the Capital.

Washington is skidding, and looking for a bounce-back game. The Caps have struggled to score goals. It won’t get easier against the Great Dane in Andersen.

Against the spread

BACK CAROLINA -1.5 (+180) for a chance to win 1.8 times your initial wager. In Washington’s three-game skid, two of the losses were by 2 or more goals.

Over/Under

The OVER 5.5 (-145) is the play – but it’s only a “lean” if the line climbs to 6.5.

The Caps have allowed 3.4 goals per game in their 10 February games, while the offense averaged 3.1 goals per game.

The Hurricanes have lit the lamp 2 or more times in 19 consecutive outings, too.
