Eagles radio host calls Giants GM Joe Schoen an ‘idiot’

A popular Philadelphia Eagles radio host calls the New York Giants organization a “disgrace” and general manager Joe Schoen an “idiot.”

During the final moments from episode 2 of “Hard Knocks: Offseason with the New York Giants,” which aired on Tuesday night, Giants general manager Joe Schoen was shown speaking with running back Saquon Barkley over the phone.

The call, which seemed very chilly in nature, centered around the Giants’ decision to let Barkley test the free agent market while seeking assurances that he’d allow them the option to match any potential contract offer.

It was the culmination of nearly two years of negotiation that yielded no fruit and effectively served as a goodbye given what we know transpired shortly thereafter.

After having seemingly watched the episode a day late, Philadelphia Eagles radio host Howard Eskin offered a critique of the scene and the conversation, calling it “asinine” and labeling Schoen an “idiot.”

Ironically, Eskin, who was recently suspended from Phillies home games for the rest of the season after allegedly kissing a Citizens Bank Park’s food service provider without consent, seems uneducated on the level of editorial control the Giants have on the show.

Although the Giants were granted editorial control, that is only applied to instances in which there becomes a clear competitive disadvantage. The phone call between Schoen and Barkley does not fall under that purview and therefore the Giants had no say in whether or not it was shown.

Perhaps more interesting is Eskin’s sudden shift in opinion on both Schoen and Barkley.

Almost a year ago to the day, back in July of 2023, Eskin praised Schoen for not signing Barkley to a long-term deal, calling it a “mistake” for the team to have selected him second overall in the 2018 NFL draft.

Oopsie daisy. That’s a little egg on the face.

Report: Eagles have a real interest in signing Giants free agent RB Saquon Barkley

Howard Eskin reports that the Philadelphia Eagles are interested in signing New York Giants free agent running back Saquon Barkley

The Eagles need a running back, and three players are testing free agency.

A local star could be looking to make a statement to his current team while remaining in the rugged NFC East.

Howard Eskin does his bit of news-breaking in Philadelphia.

The legendary sports radio host and analyst reports that the Eagles are seriously interested in signing former Penn State star Saquon Barkley.

In 14 games last season, Barkley logged 962 yards and six rushing touchdowns, 41 receptions for 280 yards, and four touchdowns for the 6-11 Giants.

Barkley would pair well with Kenneth Gainwell while giving Philadelphia an explosive playmaker in Kellen Moore’s offense.

Legendary Philadelphia sports personality Howard Eskin vows to retire if Eagles draft Bijan Robinson

Legendary Philadelphia sports analyst Howard Eskin vows to retire if the Eagles draft Texas All-American running back Bijan Robinson

Howard Eskin has spent over 50 years calling Philadelphia fans “dweebs” and “nitwits,” but that could all end on Thursday night.

The SPORTS RADIO 94 WIP and Fox 29 analyst has been a fixture in the sports scene for decades, and he’s had it up to here with the Bijan Robinson to the Eagles talk during this draft cycle.

During a recent appearance on 94 WIP, Eskin vowed to retire if Philadelphia selects the All-American running back from Texas at No. 10 overall.

Philadelphia hasn’t selected a running back in the first round since 1986. Still, Robinson is a “unique” player, and the Eagles have multiple first-round picks for a roster looking towards a Super Bowl return.
