Daytona 500 qualifying: Chase Briscoe, Alex Bowman claim front-row spots, duel qualifiers on Thursday, follow for live stream and updates

The Bluegreen Vacations Duels will take place on Thursday night and will set the field from spots three through 40.

The Daytona 500 features a unique qualifying format that is not used anywhere else on the NASCAR calendar. Last night all 42 cars that are entered in the race did one full turn at full speed to determine the two front-row spots with Chase Briscoe and Alex Bowman claiming the top spots for Sunday’s race.

Qualifying format for the Daytona 500

The remaining 40 cars are divided into two 60-lap qualifying “duels” to be run on Thursday night. These will set the field from spots three through 40. The finishing order for the first duel will determine the inside row slots, and the finishing order from the second duel will set the outside.

Weather forecast for the Daytona 500

As of Thursday morning, it is looking clear throughout the qualifiers with a 40% chance of a Thunderstorm on Friday. We should see a high of around 77 degrees on Sunday with mostly cloudy skies.
