The Warriors have won 13 straight regular-season meetings against Houston. That ends Saturday. Wiggins is the only thing resembling a go-to option for Golden State. He has been wildly inconsistent with 11, 13, 20, 10 and 29 points thus far. Even then, G Dillon Brooks is a solid perimeter defender to keep him in check.

That said, we’re not taking Houston at -250. Instead, ALPEREN SENGUN OVER 10.5 REBOUNDS (-110) really sticks out. The Dubs don’t have the clientele to body him up. He had 30 points and 13 boards in his last game against them and has 12+ boards in 4 of 5 games thus far.

Against the spread

I like the WARRIORS +5.5 (-105) here. They’re 2-0 on the road and 4-1-0 ATS thus far. Again, they’ve beaten the Rockets 13 straight times, and while they don’t have a crunch-time option, they spread the ball around. F Jonathan Kuminga can provide a spark off the bench to keep it close.

Over/Under

The Rockets are 1-4 O/U thus far, and the Dubs are 2-3. Houston is 7th in defensive rating in the league, and it’s also near the bottom at 29th with a 40.8 field-goal percentage.

Charlotte struggled last season, finishing 13th in the Eastern Conference with a 21-61 record. It dealt with a lot of injuries — including a season-ending ankle injury to G LaMelo Ball after just 22 games — forcing it to miss the playoffs for an 8th straight year.

The Rockets finished 11th in the Western Conference last season with a 41-41 record. Despite losing C Alperen Sengun to a season-ending ankle injury against the Sacramento Kings March 10, Houston rattled off 11 straight victories in March, putting it 3 games above .500. The Rockets went on to lose 6 of their final 9 games, missing the playoffs for the 4th straight year.

While Charlotte has a frisky team, it is not equipped to deal with Houston, which is projected to win 13 more games than the Hornets this season.

Both Charlotte and Houston can become streaky and score from deep. With Ball and F Brandon Miller — the 2nd overall selection in 2023 — healthy, expect the Hornets to lean on their 2 former lottery picks to carry the load offensively.

With the 3rd overall pick, they drafted Kentucky standout G Reed Sheppard. As one of the best teams in the Western Conference the Timberwolves didn’t have a high draft pick, but are in the spotlight here as they traded for the No. 8 overall pick, G Rob Dillingham, who is also from Kentucky. The Lakers summer league play is going to be watched closer with 1st-round pick F Dalton Knecht and 2nd-round pick G Bronny James Jr. on the roster. Los Angeles best performance was in its last game, losing to the Miami heat 80-76. Knecht led the team with 20 points in that game.

Having played together goes a long way in these events, and the Rockets haven’t spent as much time together as the Lakers, who already have 3 games under their belt and started to really put it together against the Heat. Lakers’ 6-foot-10 F Colin Castleton has improved and hit double figures last game as well.

The Rockets have Sheppard, but his main use in college was his efficiency, not necessarily his shot creation. While that will help at the NBA level when others can find him open, he may struggle to create and dominate at this level.

Given the Lakers continuity with having already played, expect them to keep this one close and back LAKERS +6.5 (-110).

This is the summer league. It isn’t the NBA, and players are going to be more defensive minded. Most of these players are fighting for a spot on an NBA roster, and defense matters. The Lakers scored sub-80 in 2 of their 3 games in California.
