Hawaii vs. Houston: Betting odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated Tuesday at 4:55 p.m. ET.

  • Money line: Hawaii +310 (bet $100 to win $310) | Houston -400 (bet $400 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Hawaii +10.5 (-110) | Houston -10.5 (-110)
  • Over/Under: 60.5 (O: -110 | U: -110)

Hawaii vs. Houston: Three things to know

  • Hawaii head coach Todd Graham is 5-4 in bowl games and would get his 100th career win as coach with a victory. Houston head coach Dana Holgersen is 2-5 in bowl games in his career and 3-0 against Graham’s teams.

Hawaii vs. Houston: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Hawaii 35, Houston 31

Money line (ML)

Both teams were middling during the season. Houston is very productive offensively, averaging 155.3 rushing yards and 268.1 passing yards per game. Hawaii gives up 231.5 rushing yards per game but only 190.6 yards per game through the air.

However, Hawaii moves the ball well and Houston gives up almost 420 yards per game. This should be a shootout and more or less a tossup. That will make the money line tough to bet.

But, because of the potential payout, taking HAWAII +310 is worth a wager as I anticipate a close game. It is not a high confidence pick, but it is worth the value.

Against the spread (ATS)

Hawaii was 3-5 ATS and Houston 3-4 ATS this season. With both teams with strong offenses and poor defenses, both teams should light up the scoreboard. Take HAWAII +10.5 (-110).

Over/Under (O/U)

The total is high at 60.5 but Houston’s games average 64.9 points per game. Houston will be missing two top defenders in LB Grant Stuard and DL Payton Turner, both whom opted out of the game to prepare for he NFL draft. I anticipate a high-scoring game with both teams in the 30s. Take OVER 60.5 POINTS (-110).

Temple at Houston odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Tuesday’s Temple Owls at Houston Cougars sports betting odds and lines, with college basketball betting picks, tips and predictions.

The Temple Owls (1-0, 0-0 AAC) visit the Houston Cougars (5-0, 0-0) Tuesday for an 8 p.m. tip at the Fertitta Center in Houston. Below, we analyze the Temple-Houston college basketball betting odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

Temple at Houston: Betting odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 6:15 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Temple +1100 (bet $100 to win $1,100) | Houston -2500 (bet $2,500 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Temple +16 (+100) | Houston -16 (-120)
  • Over/Under: 134.5 (O: -115 | U: -105)

Temple at Houston: Three things to know

  1. Temple has just one game under its belt, a 72-60 win over NJIT on Dec. 19, covering a 10-point number. Houston has won each of its first five games, but they have covered just three times. Two of the covers were impressive victories over Texas Tech and South Carolina.
  2. The Cougars have managed 77.2 points per game, which is rather middling, but it’s their defense which has been most impressive. They’re allowing just 55.6 PPG, ranking eighth in the country, and they’re fourth in 3-pointer defense, allowing opponents to hit just 20.5 percent from behind the arc.
  3. This is the AAC conference opener for both sides. In the past 10 meetings, the road team has hit against the spread eight times. However, Temple is 2-6 ATS in the past eight road games against teams with a winning home mark.

Temple at Houston: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Houston 76, Temple 63

Money line (ML)

Houston (-2500) has plenty of games under their belt, and that will make a difference in this one. But you cannot back a team that costs $100 for every $4 won. That’s just not a good long-term gambling model. It’s amateurish. AVOID.

Against the spread (ATS)

TEMPLE +16 (+100) isn’t going to win this game, but the Owls looked pretty good in their opener over the Highlanders. Facing an experienced Houston side with four more games of experience this season is a tall order, but 16 points is a bit much. Take the points in this conference opener for both.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 134.5 (-115) is the lean here. After three straight Under results to start, the Over has cashed in each of the past two for Houston against South Carolina and Alcorn State. It might not inch over the finish line until the final minute or two, but this baby is going Over.

Houston at Memphis odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Saturday’s Houston Cougars at Memphis Tigers sports betting odds and lines, with college football betting picks, tips and predictions.

The Houston Cougars (3-3, 3-2 AAC) visit the Memphis Tigers (6-3, 4-3) Saturday for a 3:30 p.m. ET kickoff. Below, we analyze the Houston-Memphis college football betting odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

Houston at Memphis: Betting odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated Friday at 10:30 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Houston -200 (bet $200 to win $100) | Memphis +165 (bet $100 to win $165)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Houston -4.5 (-110) | Memphis +4.5 (-110)
  • Over/Under: 623.5 (O: -110 | U: -110)

Houston at Memphis: Three things to know

  1. The Cougars are coming off a 56-21 win over South Florida on Nov. 14, covering a 15-point number. They have been out of action for nearly a calendar month due to COVID-19 postponements. So far this season, the Cougs have not won consecutive games, nor have they covered the spread in back-to-back outings.
  2. The Tigers are getting no respect from the books, perhaps due to their 35-21 egg-laying at Tulane last Saturday as 3.5-point underdogs. Their powerful offense has rolled up 31.8 points per game this season to rank 39th in the country, although they have managed just 15.5 PPG over their past two outings.
  3. Memphis has one of the best pass-catch combinations in the nation in QB Brady White and WR Calvin Austin III. White has thrown for 2,850 yards, 26 touchdowns and 8 interceptions across nine games, and Austin has hauled in 53 receptions for 951 yards and 9 touchdowns with 17.9 yards per catch. WR Tahj Washington and TE Sean Dykes have combined for 12 receiving scores, too, so this pass attack is stacked, posting 317.4 yards per game to rank 15th in the nation.

Houston at Memphis: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Memphis 41, Houston 38

Money line (ML)

MEMPHIS (+165) is a value play at the Liberty Bowl at plus-money. The Tigers are 5-0 at home, averaging 43.6 PPG in those outings. It will be bombs away for the Tigers’ pass attack against Houston (-200).

Against the spread (ATS)

The TIGERS +4.5 (-110) catching points at home makes them one of the more attractive dogs on the entire Saturday college football card. Plan to toss them in plenty of parlays and teasers.

Memphis can score with the best of them, and this game has the makings of another classic shootout which we have grown to love the past couple of seasons.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 62.5 (-110) shouldn’t be a problem with these two. Again, Memphis is averaging north of 40 in its five games at home, and Houston dropped 56 on South Florida last week. The Cougars have averaged 33.2 PPG in six outings overall.

Oh, and the Over has hit in each of the past four in this series, and all four of the previous meetings in the Liberty Bowl, too.

Boise State at Houston odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Friday’s Boise State Broncos at Houston Cougars sports betting odds and lines, with college basketball betting picks, tips and predictions.

The Boise State Broncos (0-0, 0-0 MWC) and Houston Cougars (1-0, 0-0 AAC) meet at Fertitta Center in Houston Friday at 3 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze the Boise State-Houston college basketball betting odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

Boise State at Houston: Betting odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 8 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Boise State +575 (bet $100 to win $575) | Houston -910 (bet $910 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Boise State +11.5 (-110) | Houston -11.5 (-110)
  • Over/Under: 144.5 (O: -106 | U: -115)

Boise State at Houston: Three things to know

  1. The Broncos will make their season debut, and they’ll lean heavily upon G Derrick Alston Jr. and F Abu Kigab. G Devonaire Doutrive was expected to join the Broncos from Arizona, but his waiver to play in the first semester was denied by the NCAA.
  2. Houston slapped around Lamar in its opener Wednesday, winning 89-45 to easily cover a 21.5-point spread as the Under (137.5) connected. The Cougars will have their hands a little more full with the Broncos. G Marcus Sasser registered 25 points with seven 3-pointers in the opener, while G Tramon Mark came off the bench for 22 points and eight rebounds.
  3. The Cougars showed off quick hands with 11 steals vs. Lamar, and they turned it over just nine times with 16 assists, and G Jamal Shead recorded four of the team’s eight blocked shots.

Boise State at Houston: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Houston 79, Boise State 73

Money line (ML)

Houston (-910) is playing on its home floor, and that’s quite the advantage. The Cougars also have a game under their belt, which is a big advantage, even if it was mostly a glorified exhibition against an overmatched Lamar side. Still, you cannot risk more than nine times your potential return. AVOID.

Against the spread (ATS)

BOISE STATE +11.5 (-110) is a talented team on paper, but the Broncos have a lot of new moving parts, and a lack of practice time and shortened camp might mean chemistry is a little bit of an issue. Still, the Broncos have experienced members like Alston who will calm things down and steady the ship. Houston might win, but Boise will do enough to keep it within single digits.

Over/Under (O/U)

The lean is to the OVER 144.5 (-106), as Houston hit 13 triples in the opener against Lamar, and it’ll likely jack up plenty of shots from behind the arc in this one. Boise State was good for 76.5 points per game last season, 56th in the nation, and the Broncos were also a solid 3-point shooting team at 34.8%.

Houston at Cincinnati odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Saturday’s Houston Cougars at Cincinnati Bearcats sports betting odds and lines, with college football betting picks, tips and predictions.

The Houston Cougars (2-2, 2-1 AAC) visit the Cincinnati Bearcats (5-0, 3-0) Saturday for a 3:30 p.m. ET kickoff. Below, we analyze the Houston-Cincinnati college football betting odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

The Bearcats are No. 6 in the Amway Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports.

Houston at Cincinnati: Betting odds and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated Thursday at 6:56 p.m. ET.

  • Money line: Houston +400 (bet $100 to win $400) | Cincinnati -556 (bet $556 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Houston +13.5 (-110) | Cincinnati -13.5 (-110)
  • Over/Under: 54 (O: -110 | U: -110)

Houston at Cincinnati: Three things to know

  1. Houston got waylaid at home by a 44-21 count last weekend against visiting UCF, and the Cougars are now a dismal 1-2 SU/ATS while protecting their home turf. They won their only road offering, covering a 14.5-point spread with a 37-21 victory at Navy (Oct. 24) as the Over hit. Last week’s Under result – the O/U line was 82 vs. UCF – was Houston’s first in four games this season.
  2. The Bearcats have brought a lot of excitement to the ‘Nati, proving that the Buckeyes aren’t the only national contender in the great state of Ohio. They whipped up on Memphis 49-10, and have won each of their four home games by at least 14 points. However, Cincinnati is a marginal 2-2 ATS in four home games.
  3. Cincinnati ranks 17th in the nation with 217.8 rushing yards per game, and is 14th with 39.6 PPG. Defensively, the Bearcats are allowing just 306.2 yards per game to rank 18th, they’re 10th in rushing defense (97.0 YPG) and eighth in points allowed with 12.0 PPG.

Houston at Cincinnati: Odds, prediction, betting lines and picks

Prediction

Cincinnati 41, Houston 23

Money line (ML)

Cincinnati (-556) is humming right along, but you can’t risk more than five and a half times your potential return. Over the long haul, that’s a losing strategy unless you’re including it in multi-team parlays. AVOID.

Against the spread (ATS)

CINCINNATI -13.5 (-110) is worth laying the points, even though the Bearcats are so-so against the number at home this season. Houston +13.5 (-110) did cover in its only road game to date, but that was against a dismal, one-dimensional Navy side. The Cougars showed last week that they’re no match for a powerful offense, as UCF picked them apart. Look for more of the same from the ‘Cats.

Over/Under (O/U)

Bet the OVER 54 (-110) lightly in this AAC matchup. The Bearcats have hit the Over in just two of their five games this season, splitting in four home dates. The Cougars have hit the Over in three of four games, including their only road date. Houston is allowing 34.8 PPG while scoring 33.3 PPG on offense. The Cougars are usually involved in high-scoring games and this one will be no different.
