Houston Astros at Los Angeles Angels odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s Houston Astros at Los Angeles Angels odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Houston Astros (30-35) and Los Angeles Angels (24-40) conclude their 3-game series Sunday. First pitch from Angel Stadium is slated for 4:07 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Astros vs. Angels odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Astros lead 3-2

The Astros have won 4 of their last 5 games and will be looking to sweep the Angels after a 6-1 victory on Saturday. Starter RHP Hunter Brown struck out 7 over 6 scoreless innings. Houston’s offense was led by DH Yordan Alvarez, who went 3-for-4 with a double and 2-run HR.

Los Angeles failed to get anything going offensively on Saturday night, managing only 3 hits. One of those hits was a solo HR from 1B Nick Schanuel. The Angels hope to avoid being swept for the 3rd time in their last 5 series.

Astros at Angels projected starters

RHP Justin Verlander vs. LHP Patrick Sandoval

Verlander (3-2, 3.63 ERA) makes his 10th start. He has a 1.19 WHIP, 2.9 BB/9 and 8.3 K/9 in 52 IP.

  • Last start: No-decision, 5 IP, 4 ER, 7 H, 2 BB, 4 K in 7-4 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals Monday
  • 2024 road splits: 3-1, 2.80 ERA, 35 1/3 IP, 11 ER, 28 H, 10 BB, 39 K in 3 starts

Sandoval (2-8, 5.00 ERA) makes his 14th start. He has a 1.43 WHIP, 3.8 BB/9 and 9.6 K/9 in 66 2/3 IP.

  • Last start: Win, 6 IP, 1 ER, 4 H, 1 BB, 7 K in 4-2 win against the San Diego Padres Tuesday
  • 2023 vs Astros: 0-1, 8.38 ERA (9 2/3 IP, 9 ER) in 2 starts

Astros at Angels picks and predictions

Prediction

Astros 6, Angels 2

Moneyline.

PASS.

I love the Astros (-154) in this matchup Sunday, but I’ll avoid paying that juice and keep my wager to the run line.

Run line/Against the spread

BET ASTROS -1.5 (+100).

Houston will close out this sweep in impressive fashion on Sunday afternoon with Verlander on the hill. Despite being 41-years-old now, he’s still getting the job done and should have no problem against this Angels lineup.

Sandoval has only had 1 real bad outing since the beginning of May, but he has been owned by this Astros team. In his last 5 starts against Houston, he’s allowed at least 4 ER in 4 of them.

The Astros last 8 victories have been by 2 runs or more. When they win, they usually win handedly.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 8.5 (-115).

I really wanted to take the Over, but I just could not when I looked at the trends. Their last 3 matchups have gone Under the total. Houston is 2-8 against the Over in their last 10 while the Angels have been Under in 6 straight games.

Houston Astros at Los Angeles Angels odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Houston Astros at Los Angeles Angels Team odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Houston Astros (28-35) and Los Angeles Angels (24-38) begin a 3-game series Friday. First pitch from Angel Stadium is slated for 9:38 p.m. ET (MLB Network). Let’s analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Astros vs. Angels odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Angels lead 2-1

Houston hits the road for 6 games after finishing 3-3 on their 6-game homestand. They failed to complete the sweep of the St. Louis Cardinals on Wednesday, falling 4-2. RHP Ronel Blanco suffered his 2nd consecutive loss (5 2/3 IP, 4 ER, 5 H, 2 BB, 2 K) and their only offense came on solo HRs by LF Trey Cabbage and C Yainer Diaz.

The Angels had a great start to their 6-game homestand with a sweep of San Diego, holding the Padres to a total of 5 runs over the 3-game series. RHP Jose Soriano earned his 3rd win on Wednesday (6 IP, 2 R (1 ER). 6 H, 1 BB, 1 K) and got HRs from SS Zach Neto (2 RBI) and 1B Nolan Schanuel.

Astros at Angels projected starters

LHP Framber Valdez vs. RHP Griffin Canning

Valdez (4-3, 3.95 ERA) makes his 10th start. He has a 1.24 WHIP, 2.8 BB/9 and 6.9 K/9 in 54 2/3 IP.

  • Last start: Win, 7 IP, 1 ER, 2 H, 2 BB, 4 K in 5-2 victory over the Minnesota Twins Saturday; his 1st win since May 15
  • Last start vs Angels: Loss, 5 IP, 8 ER, 10 H, 1 BB, 3 K in 9-7 road loss on May 20

Canning (2-5, 4.69 ERA) makes his 13th start. He has a 1.37 WHIP, 3.4 BB/9 and 6.4 K/9 in 63 1/3 IP.

  • Last start: Loss, 6 2/3 IP, 1 ER, 4 H, 1 BB, 4 K in 5-1 loss at the Seattle Mariners Sunday
  • Last start vs Astros: No-decision, 5 IP, 2 ER, 5 H, 3 BB, 2 K in 6-5 victory on May 21

Astros at Angels picks and predictions

Prediction

Angels 4, Astros 3

Moneyline.

BET ANGELS (+164).

I’m all in on the Halos to get the series opening win on Friday night. They have been far better against left-handed pitching this season; just look at what they did against Valdez earlier this season. They are 8-4 vs. southpaws and bat .279, which is more than 50 points higher than against righties.

Los Angeles also has momentum coming off of their impressive sweep of the Padres. Why not ride the hot hand to some extra money in your pocket on Friday night?

Run line/Against the spread

PASS.

I’m putting my unit bet on the moneyline and avoid the run line.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 8.5 (-105).

Big fan of the Under in this game. The Astros are 2-8 against the Over in their last 10 games while the Angels have been Under in 4 straight.

Houston has struggled to score on the road all season, averaging under 4 runs per game. The Angels barely average 4 RPG on the entire season. You should not expect fireworks on Friday night in L.A.

Houston Astros at Los Angeles Angels odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s Houston Astros at Los Angeles Angels odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Houston Astros (51-42) and Los Angeles Angels (46-47) wrap up their 3-game series at Angel Stadium of Anaheim on Sunday Night Baseball. First pitch is at 7 p.m. ET (ESPN). Let’s analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Astros vs. Angels and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Astros lead 6-3

The Astros blew a 3-run lead in the bottom of the 9th inning on Saturday and lost 13-12 in 10 innings. It was their 4th loss in the last 6 games.

Los Angeles snapped a 6-game losing streak with Saturday’ win. A throwing error by Houston SS Grae Kessinger helped the Halos walk it off in the 10th inning. The Angels have lost 14 of their last 20 games, allowing nearly 6 runs per game over that span.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3012″ ]

Astros at Angels projected starters

RHP Cristian Javier vs. LHP Tyler Anderson

Javier (7-1, 4.34 ERA) will make his 18th start. He has a 1.22 WHIP, 2.5 BB/9 and 8.1 K/9 in 91 1/3 innings.

  • Last start: No-decision, 4 1/3 IP, 8 ER, 9 H, 0 BB, 4 K in a 12-11 victory at the Texas Rangers on July 3
  • Has 5 straight no-decisions

Anderson (4-2, 4.05 ERA) is tabbed for his 16th start. He has a 1.52 WHIP, 4 BB/9 and 7.3 K/9 in 84 innings.

  • Last start: No-decision, 5 IP, 0 ER, 5 H, 2 BB, 3 K in a 3-1 home loss vs the Arizona Diamondbacks on July 1
  • Last start vs. Astros: No-decision, 4 2/3 IP, 4 ER, 7 H, 3 BB, 4 K in 8-5 home win on Sept. 8, 2021

Astros at Angels picks and predictions

Prediction

Astros 7, Angels 4

Moneyline

PASS.

The Astros will take care of business on Sunday Night Baseball, but I’m never going to endorse betting more than 1 1/2 units to win 1 back. I’ll put my bankroll on the run line in this game.

Run line/Against the spread

BET ASTROS -1.5 (+112).

In Houston’s 6 wins over the Angels this season, they have covered the run line in 4 of them. The Astros are 26-20 on the road this season because they allow just under 4 runs per game away from Minute Maid Park.

Also, Houston is 15-9 against left handed starters.

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under

BET OVER 9 (-115).

These 2 teams have scored Over this run total in 3 of their last 4 matchups. They more than doubled this total on Saturday night.

The Astros score over 5 runs per game on the road this season and Javier has allowed 14 ER over his last 2 road starts. Anderson has given up at least 4 ER in 3 of his last 4 starts against the Astros.

Houston Astros at Los Angeles Angels odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Houston Astros at Los Angeles Angels odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Houston Astros (51-41) and Los Angeles Angels (45-47) meet Saturday for Game 2 of a 3-game series. First pitch from Angel Stadium is set for 9:07 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Astros vs. Angels odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Astros lead 6-2

Houston won 7-5 as +130 road underdogs in Game 1 of this series Friday. Friday’s game was back and forth throughout the majority of the game with each team having the lead once before the Angels tied it at 4 in the 5th inning. The Astros took a 7-4 lead in the top of the 6th, and that lead was too much for Los Angeles to come back from.

The Astros are now 9-4 in their last 13 overall and sit at 26-19 on the road this season. Los Angeles has dropped 6 straight games and sit at 1-10 in their last 11 overall. The Angels are 23-21 at home on the year.

Astros at Angels projected starters

LHP Framber Valdez vs. LHP Reid Detmers

Valdez (7-6, 2.51 ERA) makes his 18th start. He has a 1.05 WHIP, 2.1 BB/9 and 9.4 K/9 through 111 IP.

  • Last outing: No-decision, 6 IP, 2 ER, 5 H, 2 BB, 6 K in a 3-2 home win Saturday vs. Seattle Mariners
  • Career vs. Los Angeles: 9-4, 3.46 ERA (96 1/3 IP, 37 ER), 78 H, 107 K, 1.29 WHIP through 17 appearances (13 starts)

Detmers (2-6, 4.31 ERA) makes his 17th start. He has a 1.28 WHIP, 3.4 BB/9 and 11.2 K/9 through 85 2/3 IP.

  • Last outing: Loss, 3 1/3 IP, 7 ER, 6 H, 1 BB, 4 K in a 10-5 road loss Saturday vs. Los Angeles Dodgers

Astros at Angels picks and predictions

Prediction

Astros 4, Angels 1

Moneyline

BET ASTROS (-135).

The Astros are the much hotter team, and they’re also 7-3 in the last 10 meetings. Houston is a very good road team, and it is 3-0 in each of Valdez’s last 3 starts vs. LA.

Run line/Against the spread

BET ASTROS -1.5 (+125).

The Astros are the clear favorite here, and I like them to cover as only 2 of the last 10 HOU-LAA matchups have come down to a 1-run margin. None of the Angels’ last 10 have come down to a 1-run margin. With the Astros being the hotter team, and the Angels not having many close games recently this is a solid bet.

Over/Under

LEAN UNDER 8 (+100).

The Under is 4-1 in Valdez’s last 5 starts overall and 2-1 in his last 3 starts vs. Los Angeles. The Under is also 4-0-1 in Detmers’ last 5 starts overall and 3-0 in his last 3 starts vs. Houston. For Houston, the Under is also 2-1 in its last 3 games overall.

Houston Astros at Los Angeles Angels odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Houston Astros at Los Angeles Angels odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Houston Astros (50-41) take on the Los Angeles Angels (45-46) in the opener of a 3-game set at Angel Stadium Friday. First pitch is at 9:38 p.m. ET (MLB Network). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Astros vs. Angels odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Astros lead 5-2

The Astros ended the first half with a 6-4 record and crawled within 2 games of the Texas Rangers for the AL West lead. They will be operating without OF Yordan Alvarez (oblique) and 2B Jose Altuve (oblique). Alvarez went on a rehab assignment and could be back next week, and Altuve shouldn’t be far behind.

The Angels limped to the All-Star break, losers of 9 of 10 games to fall 7 games back in the division and 5 games from a Wild Card spot. They’re operating without OF Mike Trout (hand), who is recovering from surgery to repair a broken hamate bone and won’t be back for 2-6 weeks. The Halos will need a quick start out of the break to get back in it and avoid potentially selling off major assets.

RHP J.P. France vs. RHP Shohei Ohtani

France (4-3, 3.26 ERA) makes his 12th start. He has a 1.21 WHIP, 2.8 BB/9 and 6.5 K/9 in 66 1/3 innings.

  • Last start: Win, 6 IP, 3 ER, 6 H, 1 BB, 4 K July 4 vs. Colorado Rockies
  • 1 career start vs. Angels: No-decision, 7 IP, 1 ER, 3 H, 1 BB, 3 K June 4

Ohtani (7-4, 3.32 ERA) makes his 18th start. He has a 1.10 WHIP, 3.9 BB/9 and 11.8 K/9 in 100 1/3 innings.

  • Last start: Loss, 5 IP, 5 ER, 7 H, 4 BB, 5 K against San Diego Padres July 4

Astros at Angels picks and predictions

Prediction

Angels 3, Astros 2

Moneyline

Ohtani left his last start with a blister on his finger. These can be recurring, and it’ll be something to watch in his first start back. The Astros have gotten to Ohtani for 7 ER in 13 IP this season, but they’re missing 2 key cogs in the lineup. I don’t think they beat him 3 times in a season, but I’m also not confident enough in the Angels’ offense to put -160 on their ML.

I’ll go with SHOHEI OHTANI OVER 17.5 OUTS (-145). He has tossed 6 IP in 4 of his last 5 starts against Houston.

Run line/Against the spread

The Astros have been great on the RL away from home at 27-17. The Angels are just 17-26 on the RL at home. Houston is 7-3 in the last 10 against the Angels.

I’m willing to take the juice with the ASTROS +1.5 (-160) because this has to be a low-scoring game for the Angels to win.

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under

The Over is 4-5-1 in the last 10 between the teams. The Astros are 3-6-1 O/U over their last 10, and the Angels are 6-3-1.

If the Angels want to win this game, it has to be a low-scoring one. I think Ohtani can set that tone for a team that needs to come out of the gates firing.

Take the UNDER 8 (-110).

Season series: Tied 1-1

The Astros snapped a 3-game losing skid with a 3-1 victory Tuesday. Houston has tallied a 4-6 record in its last 10 contests.

The Angels lost on Tuesday despite RHP Shohei Ohtani fanning 7 and surpassing Babe Ruth for the most all-time strikeouts for a player who has hit 100-plus home runs. Los Angeles has gone 6-4 in its last 10 games but has lost 3 of its last 4 contests.

Astros at Angels picks and predictions

Prediction

Astros 5, Angels 3

Moneyline

The ASTROS (-125) have a massive pitching advantage with Javier on the mound even though Canning has gone 2-0 in his first 4 starts. Houston is 14-6 in the last 20 meetings in Los Angeles and 57-27 in the last 84 meetings overall.

Run line/Against the spread

ASTROS -1.5 (+125) is how I’d wager on the run line with Javier pitching for Houston. The Astros should also have success against Canning in Wednesday’s AL West bout as he’s coming off a start where he surrendered 5 earned runs to the St. Louis Cardinals on Thursday.

Over/Under

UNDER 9.5 (-110) is the lean in this game with Javier having success against the Angels in his career. The Astros are 6-4 to the Under in their last 10 games overall.

  • Owns a 3-3 record with a 3.47 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 12.4 K/9 in 10 career starts against the Astros

Astros at Angels picks and predictions

Prediction

Angels 3, Astros 2

Moneyline

With both teams having talented pitchers on the mound, I’ll back the ANGELS (-140) at home with Ohtani pitching.

Run line/Against the spread

PASS.

I don’t expect either of these teams to blow out the other with Valdez and Ohtani on the bump. The Astros +1.5 (-175) should be able to keep the game within a run, but taking their run line isn’t advised at the current odds.

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under

UNDER 7.5 (-110) is the pick in this AL West bout on Tuesday. I expect a pitching duel between Valdez and Ohtani, so runs should be tough for both teams to produce.

The Astros have had 7 or fewer combined runs scored in 6 of their last 10 games.

Astros at Angels projected starters

Astros at Angels picks and predictions

Prediction

Astros 4, Angels 3

Moneyline

I’ll back the ASTROS (-125) on the road in Monday’s AL West showdown despite their recent struggles. Houston is 41-20 in the last 61 meetings in Los Angeles and 56-26 in the last 82 meetings overall with L.A.

Run line/Against the spread

ANGELS +1.5 (-160) is how I’d play the run line despite the odds being somewhat juiced. Both pitchers in this contest have been solid this season and I believe Los Angeles keeps this game within a run.

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under

UNDER 8.5 (+100) has solid value considering how Brown and Sandoval have been pitching this season. Even though Sandoval has sputtered against the Astros in his career, Houston has scored 5 or more runs in only 3 of its last 10 games.

Houston Astros at Los Angeles Angels odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s Houston Astros at Los Angeles Angels odds and lines, with MLB expert picks and predictions.

The Houston Astros (85-48) take on the Los Angeles Angels (58-75) Sunday in the finale of a 3-game set at Angel Stadium. First pitch is set for 4:07 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Astros vs. Angels odds with MLB picks and predictions.

Season series: Astros lead 10-5

The Astros lost 2-1 in 12 innings Saturday night as they were just 2-for-14 with runners in scoring position. It snapped Houston’s 4-game win streak as they are somewhat coasting with a 10-game lead in the AL West. These sides play another 3-game set in Houston next weekend.

The Angels have won 6 of 8 games and have held the Astros to 5 total runs in the first 2 games of the series. RHP Shohei Ohtani allowed 1 ER over 8 IP, and the bullpen tossed 4 scoreless IP. You have to wonder if winning that game was the World Series for this team that’s going nowhere, though.

Astros at Angels projected starters

RHP Jose Urquidy vs. LHP Tucker Davidson

Urquidy (12-5, 3.69 ERA) makes his 25th start. He has a 1.14 WHIP, 2.0 BB/9 and 7.1 K/9 in 139 IP.

  • 2 starts vs. Angels this year: 2-0, 11 IP, 6 H, 2 ER, 3 BB, 10 K
  • Not as good on the road: 4.24 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, 5.6 K/9 vs. 3.06 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 8.8 K/9 at home

Davidson (2-4, 5.77 ERA) makes his 8th start in his 9th appearance. He has a 1.78 WHIP, 7.1 BB/9 and 5.5 K/9 in 34 1/3 IP.

  • Not a typo: he has 25 BB in 31 2/3 IP as a starter this year
  • Has limited the damage with a 3.00 ERA over his last 3 starts

Astros at Angels picks and predictions

Prediction

Astros 6, Angels 2

Money line

The Astros are 31-11 against left-handed starters, which is one of the best marks in the game. They face a lefty today that has more walks than strikeouts and could be out of this game in the 4th inning.

The -170 ML is probably going to be steamed up closer to -200. I’m good with the ASTROS (-170), but I also love the value with ASTROS FIRST 5 INNINGS (-122).

Run line/Against the spread

The last 7 wins for Houston have been by 2 or more runs. Again, Saturday night was the equivalent to the Angels’ World Series, and there could be a hangover effect with a pitcher that allows a lot of traffic. Take the ASTROS -1.5 (-105).

Over/Under

This could always get out of hand and go Over, but Houston is just 2-7-1 O/U in its last 10. There have only been 9 runs total in the 2 games thus far. The wind is blowing in from left-center field, and this is a pretty easy call. Take the UNDER 9.5 (-105).

Houston Astros at Los Angeles Angels odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Houston Astros at Los Angeles Angels odds and lines, with MLB expert picks and predictions.

The Houston Astros (84-47) and Los Angeles Angels (57-74) open a 3-game series Friday. First pitch from Angel Stadium will be at 9:38 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Astros vs. Angels odds with MLB picks and predictions.

Season series: Astros lead 9-4 and have won 5 of the last 6 meetings

The Astros have won 3 games in a row, sweeping the Texas Rangers in their brief 2-game series after beating the Baltimore Orioles in the last game of their 3-game set last weekend. It hasn’t been the offense carrying this team as they’ve scored more than 5 runs only once in their last 11 contests. The pitching staff has shut down opponents, allowing no more than 4 runs in any game along that span.

The Angels come into this series hot, too. They’ve won 5 of their last 6 games, sweeping the Toronto Blue Jays and taking 2 of 3 from the New York Yankees. They only rank 25th in runs scored (500) this season but their pitching staff has been strong, allowing only 3.79 runs per game to rank 9th in the majors.

Astros at Angels projected starters

RHP Lance McCullers Jr. vs. LHP Reid Detmers

McCullers (1-1, 1.69 ERA) makes his 4th start. He has a 1.44 WHIP, 5.6 BB/9 and 7.3 K/9 through 16 IP.

  • Made his season debut on Aug. 13 and has looked sharp since; has two outings where he allowed 0 runs and one where he allowed 3 runs in 5 innings
  • Pitched 4-scoreless innings and allowed just 4 hits in a 2-0 loss to the Orioles last Friday in his last start

Detmers (5-4, 3.47 ERA) makes his 21st start. He has a 1.16 WHIP, 3.4 BB/9 and 8.6 K/9 through 103 2/3 IP.

  • Has won 2 of his last 3 decisions, beating the Blue Jays last Friday and Seattle Mariners Aug. 6
  • Allowed 2 or fewer earned runs in 7 of his last 8 starts dating back to the start of July

Astros at Angels picks and predictions

Prediction

Astros 5, Angels 3

Money line

The Astros are clearly the better team here, and they have a better pitcher on the mound, too. It’s somewhat surprising they’re only -155 on the money line, but perhaps that’s because of the Angels’ recent hot stretch and Houston’s cold bats.

Still, I like the ASTROS (-155) to win outright. The spread also offers good value, though.

Run line/Against the spread

The Astros won each of their last 2 games by 2 runs, but the Angels have been great against the spread lately; they’ve covered in 5 of their last 6 games.

With McCullers on the mound, the Astros should be able to cover against the Angels, provided their offense wakes up. Bet the ASTROS -1.5 (+105).

Over/Under

In the Astros’ last 10 games, the total has only gone Over 4 times. The Under is 4-1 in the last 5 for Houston, and 2-1 in the last 3 for Los Angeles.

If McCullers keeps pitching the way he has since returning from injury, and Detmers has good command, this shouldn’t be a very high-scoring game. I like the UNDER 8.5 (-108).
