Oklahoma’s Lynnsie Elam earns Big 12 Player of the Week

At the Hillenbrand Invitational over the weekend, Elam helped the Sooners to a 4-1 record with seven hits, seven RBI’s and four home runs. She scored eight total runs in five games.

Elam’s best performance of the weekend came against No. 4 Arizona, when she helped Oklahoma climb back from a 4-2 deficit. She hit her fourth home run of the year, a solo-shot in the sixth inning, to bring the eventual win within one.

She had a put-out in the bottom of the eighth inning that prevented an Arizona walk-off win.

Elam is averaging one hit per game in nine games played, as well as eight RBI’s.  She leads the team in home runs, and is tied for sixth nationally with five.

The Sooners now head to Cathedral City, CA to participate in the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic Feb. 21-23. Their first game is Friday against Nebraska at 12:30 p.m.

Sooners finish 4-1 in Hillenbrand Invitational

Oklahoma softball finished 4-1 in the Hillenbrand Invitational in Tuscon, Arizona to improve to 8-1 on the season.

The Sooners beat Bryant and Northern Iowa on Friday before dropping their first game of the season to Long Beach State 5-4 early Saturday. The Sooners bounced-back with a 6-4 extra-inning win over No. 4 Arizona Saturday night, and capped off the invitational with a run-rule win over NIU early Sunday.

Oklahoma led for a majority of the contest against Long Beach State, but gave up four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to fall to the Sharks. Shannon Saile took the Sooners first loss in the circle.

It took the Sooners ten innings to beat the Wildcats Saturday night. Lynnsie Elam homered in the sixth inning to cut the lead to one, and junior Taylon Snow batted in the tying run that would send the game into extras.

After scoreless eighth and ninth innings, Snow scored the winning run after Grace Green smacked a ball into left field that was dropped.

Jocelyn Alo, Green, and Elam all finished with two hits in the Sooners 8-0 win over NIU on Sunday.

Next up, the Sooners travel to Cathedral City, Calif. to participate in the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic, taking on Nebraska and Texas A&M on Friday, Seattle and No. 1 Washington on Saturday, and Wisconsin on Sunday.

TV slate announced for Oklahoma Softball

The second-ranked Oklahoma softball team will have 22 of their 2020 regular season games televised.

Three will be on ESPN networks, seven on FOX Sports Oklahoma, two on FS1, and five on Sooner Sports TV. 

Three of Oklahoma’s games will be televised nationally. Their matchup with No. 6 Texas on March 22 will be on ESPNU, and their game against No. 10 Kentucky on April 10 will be on FS1. The Sooners Big 12 matchups against Baylor in Waco on April 3 and 5, and against Oklahoma State on May 1 will be available on ESPN+.

Out of the seven Big 12 nationally broadcasted games, three will include the Sooners. Seven of the nine Phillips 66 Big 12 Softball Championship matchups will be aired on FCS. The championship will be nationally televised on ESPN2. 

The Sooners are off to a 4-0 start, and next travel to Tuscon, Arizona Feb. 14-16 to participate in the Hillenbrand Invitational against Bryant, Northern Iowa, Long Beach, and No. 4 Arizona. 

The first televised game of the season for the Sooners will be against Wichita State on March 4 at 6 p.m.

Tickets for Oklahoma’s home softball series versus No. 6 Texas and No. 16 Oklahoma State have sold out.

Tickets for Oklahoma’s home softball series versus No. 6 Texas and No. 16 Oklahoma State have sold out. The Sooners play the Longhorns March 20-22 and the Cowboys April 30-May 2. 

After going 18-1 at Marita Hynes Field last season, the second-ranked Sooners are scheduled to play 28 regular season home matchups this season. 

Less than 100 tickets remain for the Sooners matchups against No. 10 Kentucky on April 11 and the weekend matchup versus No. 17 Texas Tech. 

Oklahoma is off to a 4-0 start to the season, beating Nevada, Long Beach State, George Washington, and BYU in the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. They have outscored their opponents 27-9 in total. 

The Sooners home-opener is on Feb. 28 against Northwestern at 3 p.m.

They travel to Tuscon, Arizona Feb. 14-16 to participate in the Hillenbrand Invitational against Bryant, Northern Iowa, Long Beach, and No. 4 Arizona. The matchup versus the Wildcats will be Oklahoma’s first ranked game of the season.
