Watch: Demario Davis delivers first Saints pregame speech of 2021

Alvin Kamara may be the face of the franchise post-Drew Brees, but Demario Davis might be the loudest voice in the New Orleans Saints locker room. Davis began leading the pregame huddle when Brees missed time with an injury in 2018, and he’s taken on that role full-time now that No. 9 has entered retirement.

Davis spoke to his teammates before their Week 1 kickoff with the Green Bay Packers, acknowledging the oddness of playing a home game in Jacksonville, due to Hurricane Ida — and stressing the need to come away with a win for the fans back home.

The first two drives of the Atlanta Falcons’ 32-6 Week 1 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles actually showed some promise. Then, the wheels fell off and what was a competitive, physical first quarter turned into a nightmare that Falcons fans have had all too many times before.

Let’s examine the Falcons’ offensive, defensive and special teams performances after Sunday’s game against the Eagles.

Some things never change…

Chase Claypool burst onto the scene for the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2020 and wasted no time getting back after it in the 2021 regular season.  Despite being sidelined for part of the preseason Claypool was ready to go as the Steelers opened the year at Buffalo.

Trailing 10-0 early in the second half Claypool made a great go up and get it catch for 25 yards that put the Steelers in field goal range, something they’d settle for a few downs later.

After a sloppy first half by the Falcons, they trailed 15-6 to kick off the second half to the Eagles. On Philadelphia’s opening third-quarter possession, linebacker Jacob Tuioti-Mariner caught Jalen Hurts escaping the pocket and brought down the Eagles quarterback from behind for the sack.

Lions highlight: T.J. Hockenson scores the Lions’ 1st TD of 2021

Hockenson ran a great route and blasted through a tackle attempt to get the Lions on the board

The Lions offense found some success in the early-going against the San Francisco 49ers. After stalling in Niners territory on the first two drives without points, the third Detroit offensive possession ended in paydirt.

T.J. Hockenson ran a nice “out” route and cleared enough space to catch the tight throw from Jared Goff. Hockenson blasted through Jaquiski Tartt’s tackle attempt and wound up in the end zone for the first touchdown of the Dan Campbell era in Detroit.

This capped off an impressive 13-play, 67-yard drive and tied up the score at 7 early in the second quarter.

The Atlanta Falcons have released their Week 1 inactives list for Sunday’s matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles and among those out are rookies Ta’Quon Graham, Feleipe Franks and Frank Darby. Kickoff is at 1:00 p.m. ET from Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.

The New Orleans Saints and Green Bay Packers have combined for some incredible games over the years — last season’s tough home loss recalled a their 2011 matchup, both filled with exhilarating moments to pad out the highlight reel. Here are the most memorable plays in recent series history between the two storied franchises:

With their backs against the wall, the Cowboys’ defense got a takeaway on a forced fumble by S Kazee, giving the offense a chance to win it.

With the Cowboys down two points on their own 13-yard line, Tampa Bay wide receiver Chris Godwin caught a pass and got to the two-yard line, looking as if he could score. That was until new Cowboys safety Damontae Kazee put his helmet right on the football and punched it out. Cornerback Jourdan Lewis scooped up the football and returned it to the 11, setting up the Dallas offense.

This is the fourth takeaway by defensive coordinator Dan Quinn’s defense and it sets up quarterback Dak Prescott and the offense with just under five minutes left for a chance to win the game with a field goal. The defense has been feast or famine in the game and the takeaways have been timely for Quinn and his unit.

After an unfortunate interception, QB Dak Prescott delivered his second TD pass to WR Amari Cooper to cut the lead late in the third quarter

The talk of the NFL coming into the season opener was about quarterback Dak Prescott’s rust and how it could influence his performance against one of the best defenses in football. Prescott hasn’t missed a beat, throwing a ridiculous 47 passes in three quarters and completing 35 of them.

After a dropped pass by wide receiver CeeDee Lamb resulted in an interception in the third quarter, the Buccaneers snatched the opportunity and scored a touchdown to make it a 28-19 lead. For the third time in the game, though, Prescott responded to a Tampa Bay touchdown with one of his own. Starting on the 25, the offense moved smoothly down the field and finished the job this time. Prescott delivered his third touchdown pass of the game, second to wide receiver Amari Cooper on a 25-yard score.

Prescott already has 331 passing yards in the game and hasn’t shown any signs of fatigue as the game begins to approach the closing moments.
