The transfer news continues to trickle out, and the latest comes from the Ohio State women’s basketball program. On Wednesday, James Madison announced that former Buckeye guard, Hevynne Bristow, is joining the program as a graduate transfer after spending her last three years in Columbus.

Out of Brooklyn, New York, Bristow came to OSU after one season at Providence. She was thrust into action during what was supposed to be a transition, redshirt year, but never really carved out a role on a Buckeye squad the next two years after.

Last year was the campaign Bristow contributed to the most, appearing in 29 games but averaging just 3.6 points and 3.0 rebounds on 10.5 minutes of action. As the team made a run in the NCAA Tournament, all the way to the Elite 8, Bristow’s minutes seemed to evaporate.

For her part, James Madison head coach Sean O’Regan was happy to add Bristow to the team.

“Hevynne is a special player, person, and athlete,” O’Regan said. “She got to see us up close and in person when we played Ohio State in the NCAA tournament, and she could really see herself here with us. I have watched her since she was a junior in high school and her potential is off the charts. I’m super excited to get her on the court with us and help her get to where she belongs.”

We, of course, wish nothing but the best as Bristow takes the next step in her college basketball career.

Ohio State women’s basketball welcomes transfer Hevynne Bristow

The Ohio State women’s basketball team officially welcomed Providence transfer Hevynne Bristow in an email release on Friday.

On the tails of the move being reported prior, the Ohio State women’s basketball team has officially welcomed transfer Hevynne Bristow from Providence. She will have to sit out this upcoming season because of NCAA transfer rules, but will be eligible for the 2021-2022 season.

“I’m excited to add Hevynne to our program,” said Ohio State head coach Kevin McGuff in an email release. “She is a great kid that I think will add a lot to our team both on and off the court. Her mix of size and length and athleticism will be a perfect fit for our program.”

At Providence, Bristow appeared in 29 games, with three starts in 2019-20 as a freshman — averaging 2.7 points and 2.2 rebounds per game last season. Bristow played her prep ball at Brooklyn Community of Arts and Media where she was a top-100 recruit and recorded over 1,500 points, 1,000 rebounds and 500 assists.

Her arrival helps offset the loss of a couple of players from last year, Kierstan Bell and Janai Crooms. Bristow will have three years of eligibility left.

Hevynne Bristow to transfer to Ohio State women’s basketball program

Providence guard Hevynne Bristow announced her transfer to the Ohio State women’s basketball program Friday.

It’s the age of the transfer and the Ohio State women’s basketball team isn’t immune to where college athletics are headed. According to a post appearing on her Instagram account, 6-foot, 1-inch guard Hevynne Bristow will be transferring from Providence to Ohio State.

The news is welcome for head coach Kevin McGuff because the Buckeyes lost a couple of players via transfer themselves with the departure of outgoing freshman Kierstan Bell and sophomore Janai Krooms.

Bristow will have three years of eligibility left after averaging just shy of three points per contest last season. She will join a very young and talented roster that began to find itself at the tail-end of last year. The Buckeyes finished fifth in the Big Ten but made a run all the way to the Big Ten Championship game during postseason play.
