Auburn target Herbert Scroggins commits to Miami

Auburn misses out on four-star EDGE Herbert Scroggins, as he chose Miami over the Tigers.

Auburn football has been extremely busy over the summer portion of the offseason on the recruiting trail, and while the program has had success, it missed out on a big target on Friday.

Following a recent visit to the Plains, four-star EDGE [autotag]Herbert Scroggins[/autotag] announced his commitment to the Miami Hurricanes. He had previously been heavily favored to sign with the Tigers by both On3 and 247Sports up until last weekend, when he went back to Miami for another visit before his decision.

Scroggins made his visit to Auburn two weeks ago, one that was considered to be huge for the program in landing the prospect. The Hurricanes beat out fellow ACC foes in North Carolina and Georgia Tech as well.

According to the On3 industry ranking, the Savannah, Georgia, product is currently ranked the No. 376 overall player and the No. 34 EDGE in the 2025 class. He is also ranked No. 44 in the state of Georgia.

The Tigers are currently trying to bounce back in the recruiting game after multiple recruits recently decommitting and other schools making moves on mutual prospects.

They rank No. 10 nationally in this recruiting cycle and No. 6 in the SEC, with the hopes of raising that soon and early into the fall football season.

Herbert Scroggins’ recent visit to Auburn was ‘momentum-changing’

Auburn gained ground last weekend in the recruitment of the three-star EDGE.

Auburn football has had a busy summer in terms of recruiting, and their hard work has paid off as several targets have pledged to Auburn following their official visits.

The next recruit that could follow the trend is [autotag]Herbert Scroggins[/autotag], a three-star EDGE from Savannah, Georgia. Scroggins was one of 12 recruits that were on campus last weekend for an official visit, joining USC commits [autotag]Daune Morris[/autotag] and [autotag]Julian Lewis[/autotag] and four-star EDGE [autotag]Zion Grady[/autotag]. Before his visit, Scroggins had a pair of ACC schools at the top of his list. Now, he is strongly leaning towards Auburn.

The visit was considered “momentum-changing” for both Auburn and Scroggins says Chad Simmons of On3, as the Tigers have now emerged as the favorite. Simmons says that the race for Scroggins will be interesting ahead of his commitment date next week.

Auburn hosted Herbert Scroggins, and there was buzz around the Tigers heading into the visit and even more coming out. North Carolina was viewed as a competitor, along with Miami and Georgia Tech, but Auburn did a great job with the Peach State defender over the weekend. He is expected to make a decision by the end of the month.

On3 has given Auburn a 98.7% chance to sign Scroggins, and the Tigers have received two crystal balls from 247Sports in favor of Scroggins. During last weekend’s visit, Scroggins said that he wants to find a solid balance between academics and football. Auburn may have just that.

“You can get a good degree here and still play football,” Scroggins said in an interview with Auburn Undercover. “I’ve been touring all the ACC schools, I’m a big academic guy, so I’ve been going to Miami, Georgia Tech, North Carolina looking for a good way to football and get a good education. When I went to the engineering center here and saw everything, that clicked.”

Scroggins is a three-star EDGE from Benedictine Military School in Savannah, Georgia. He is Georgia’s No. 37 overall 2025 recruit according to On3 and is the No. 34 overall EDGE for the class. Scroggins is scheduled to visit Miami this weekend, and will make a decision regarding his future college program in the early stages of next week.

Auburn projected to land a 2025 three-star EDGE

Auburn’s chances of grabbing Herbert Scroggins’ commitment are great ahead of his commitment date.

The busiest recruiting weekend of the summer to date has just concluded for Auburn football, and now many of Auburn’s top targets have difficult decisions to make.

One of those visitors was [autotag]Herbert Scroggins[/autotag], a three-star EDGE from Savannah, Georgia. Scroggins plans to announce his commitment on June 24 or 25 and will take one more visit before announcing his plans. Where does Auburn stand in Scroggins’ recruitment leading to the important date? Two recruiting experts at 247Sports are confident in the Tigers’ chances to secure his signature.

Anna Adams and Christian Clemente of 247Sports have submitted “crystal ball predictions” in favor of Auburn to land Scroggins with medium confidence.  Both predictions come after Scroggins took an official visit to the Plains over the weekend.

Academics are important for Scroggins, and he is looking to find a school that offers a solid balance of academic prestige and athletic success. Over the weekend, he visited Auburn’s Samuel Ginn College of Engineering and came away impressed.

In a football sense, Scroggins’ relationship with EDGE coach [autotag]Josh Aldridge[/autotag] has Auburn trending upward.

“I have an amazing relationship with Coach Aldridge, I love him,” Scroggins said. “Just the coaching staff in general, but Coach Aldridge is a great guy, he knows what he’s talking about and he’s going to recruit the heck out of you. He said I’m that guy, he really wants me and he knows that I fit well in this defense. He said I’m his No. 1 priority.”

Scroggins is set to visit Miami this weekend, and plans to announce his commitment within a week. Miami, Georgia Tech, and North Carolina are the schools to beat for the nation’s No. 36 EDGE from the 2025 cycle.

Auburn becomes leader to land 2025 three-star EDGE Herbert Scroggins

Scroggins will officially visit Auburn on Sept. 6, but the Tigers could land his commitment before then.

The summer months are creeping in, which means that the weather, and Auburn’s 2025 recruiting efforts, are beginning to heat up.

Several key names from the 2025 class are beginning to schedule official visits to the Plains while some are winding down their recruitment. One Auburn target, [autotag]Herbert Scroggins[/autotag], is starting to trend in the Tigers’ favor.

Scroggins, a three-star EDGE from Savannah, Georgia, has been high on Auburn’s radar for several months and has a great chance at earning his commitment. Ahead of the busy summer months, Cole Pinkston of On3 has submitted a prediction for Scroggins to commit to Auburn with 60% confidence.

Scroggins has scheduled an official visit to Auburn during the weekend of Sept. 6 for the Tigers’ nonconference game against California at Jordan-Hare Stadium. He visited Auburn last summer during Big Cat Weekend, and again in March. Auburn hopes to bring him in several times, including this year’s Big Cat Weekend, before his official visit this fall.

In a recent interview, Scroggins told Auburn Live that Auburn’s “family atmosphere” stands out most.

“The thing about it, like with Miami and these schools, it’s about the culture there,” Scroggins said in March. “You’re family, you know, they’re from the south, they roll out that red carpet so it’s like you’re just family with them. That’s what I love about Auburn.”

At this point in his recruitment, Scroggins is still flying under the radar. He has a three-star rating from 247Sports and Rivals but is unranked by On3 and ESPN. His luck could change soon due to his incredible junior season at Benedictine Military Academy. As an 11th grader in 2023, Scroggins recorded 84 tackles with 10 for loss, third-highest on the team. He played a key role in Benedictine’s state title appearance.

According to 247Sports, Scroggins is the No. 34 EDGE for the 2025 class and is the No. 43 player from Georgia. He has zero crystal balls in his favor at the time of this post but has a forecast of 95.5% to land at Auburn according to On3.
