Cowboys News: Jerry talks Pitts ‘infatuation,’ Sean Lee’s future, Dak’s progress

Also, last-minute mock mania, how COVID affected scouting, how history says Dallas will draft, and Jerry’s star-clad helicopter.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has famously (over)shared what he thinks of when he’s in bed, what he dreams of at night, and even players he thinks about in the shower. But on Tuesday, he was quick to shoot down a story he is reportedly “infatuated” with Florida tight end Kyle Pitts. Jones was so adamant, in fact, that he may have inadvertently revealed that the team won’t be trading up to draft Pitts on Thursday night, one possibility that some draft pundits had considered.

The team owner also had plenty to say about linebacker Sean Lee, who seems to have a place at the Cowboys table whenever he’s ready. At the same press conference, coach Mike McCarthy updated the media on the status of Dak Prescott in his injury rehab efforts. There’s still plenty of draft-day strategy to dissect as the first round is nearly here; check out Cowboys Wire’s look at what Dallas’s history in the draft has to say about what they’ll do this year. More mocks forecast names to watch during the Cowboys’ ten picks, and explore how scouting during the pandemic could make for a wild and wacky draft. And finally, an inside look at the star-clad helicopter that serves as a state-of-the-art billboard for the Cowboys brand.

Seattle Seahawks react to the death of Kobe Bryant

Seattle Seahawks players reacted on twitter to the death of NBA superstar Kobe Bryant, who passed away in a helicopter crash at age 41.

The sports world was turned upside down Sunday afternoon following the shocking news that retired NBA superstar Kobe Bryant died in a helicopter crash outside of Calabasas. He was 41.

Bryant was among the greatest athletes of his generation, in any sport, and his death shocked and saddened just about everyone, including many former athletes who grew up inspired by the former Lakers superstar.

An outpouring of grief hit social media after the announcement, including a ton of messages from members of the Seattle Seahawks.

Bryant retired in 2016, scoring 60 points in his final game in a contest that captivated the entire league. He was an 18-time All-Star and is widely considered one of the five greatest players in NBA history.

Bryant finished his career scoring 33,643 points, which is fourth all-time just behind Lebron James – who passed him earlier this week and prompted the final tweet of Bryant’s life.

Our thoughts are with Bryant, his family and the NBA community following this tragedy.

In celebration of the NFL’s 100 years, the league is encouraging fans to vote for the greatest moments in pro football history on NFL.com/GreatestMoments. John Elway’s “helicopter run” in Super Bowl XXXII has advanced to the Round of 16.

“The word ‘sacrifice’ in sports can be clichéd and misused, but if ever a play demanded the use of that term, it was in the third quarter of a tie game in Super Bowl XXXII, in January 1998 at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego,” the league captioned a video of Elway’s famous play.

Facing a third-and-6, Elway had to make a decision about sliding or attempting to convert a third down to keep Denver’s drive alive.

“Rather than be content with a field goal, at the 7-yard line Elway jumped headfirst into the air, where a Green Bay defender took out Elway’s knee and Elway was spun around 360 degrees for the first down,” NFL.com wrote.

The Broncos went on to score and take a 24-17 lead before ultimately going on to win 31-24, marking the team’s and Elway’s first Super Bowl victory.

Voting for the Round of 16 will close Jan. 15 and voting for the Round of 8 will close on Jan. 22. Voting for the Round of 4 will wrap up on Feb. 2, the day of Super Bowl LIV in Miami Gardens. Vote here.
