RGIII ranks his top 5 Heisman contenders after Week 1

UGA star quarterback Carson Beck makes the cut for Robert Griffin III’s top Heisman contender rankings, but misses his top 4

Former Heisman winner and Baylor football legend Robert Griffin III has ranked his top five Heisman contenders ahead of Week 2. Griffin III also played with Baltimore Ravens in the NFL and is a former ESPN football analyst.

Week 1 featured several notable games the Georgia Bulldogs dominated the Clemson Tigers in Atlanta. The Notre Dame Fighting Irish went on the road and picked up an impressive win against the Texas A&M Aggies. The USC Trojans defeated the LSU Tigers at a neutral site in their first game as a member of the Big Ten.

Who are Robert Griffin III’s top Heisman contenders? Where does he rank Georgia Bulldogs quarterback Carson Beck?

Heisman Trophy Race: Texas QB Quinn Ewers has third-best odds

Quinn Ewers now trails only Caleb Williams and Michael Penix Jr.

Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers has had an exceptional start to the 2023 college football season. Continue reading “Heisman Trophy Race: Texas QB Quinn Ewers has third-best odds”

Can Texas QB Quinn Ewers put himself back in the Heisman conversation?

Taking a look at Quinn Ewers’ chance to win the Heisman.

According to BetMGM, Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers has the third-best odds to win the Heisman.

Before Texas’ win in Tuscaloosa this season, three of the past five quarterbacks who have beaten Alabama in their home stadium have gone on to win the Heisman Trophy. Those are pretty good odds for Ewers, but he still has a long way to go in order to be in New York on Dec. 10 for the awards eremony.

The current frontrunners for the Heisman are quarterbacks Caleb Williams, Michael Penix, and Shedeur Sanders. Bettors obviously think Ewers has what it takes to elevate himself to that level of play, it is just up to him to actually do it.

Ewers isn’t filling the stat sheet after every game, but he is efficient enough to win games. In order to be considered for the Heisman Trophy, Ewers cannot play down to the opponent and lose games that should be won. Ewers has done that through four weeks so far, and it has to be a priority down the stretch.

He has yet to throw any interceptions this season, which is a significant factor in the Heisman voting. Turnovers can hurt a player’s chances, so it’s great to see that Ewers has been incredibly careful with the football. It’s worth noting that the last quarterback to win the Heisman with double-digit interceptions was Jameis Winston back in 2013.

Ewers has an opportunity to win the most prestigious college award, but in order to do so he must keep his head down, lead the Longhorns to victory, continue to avoid turnovers, and fill the stat sheet. Obviously, the most important goal is to win, and that’s what Ewers will be focused on. Ewers and the No. 3 Texas Longhorns take on the No. 24 Kansas Jayhawks on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. CT.

Texas QB Quinn Ewers projected to be a Heisman finalist

PFF believes Quinn Ewers has a shot to be a Heisman finalist this season.

ESPN names Jayden Daniels a 2023 Heisman contender

There are high expectations for Daniels, should he return to school.

LSU quarterback [autotag]Jayden Daniels[/autotag] has yet to announce his 2023 plans. The transfer from Arizona State could come back to Baton Rouge for another year or head off to the NFL.

If Daniels does come back, there will be high expectations. ESPN released its list of early Heisman contenders, and Daniels made the cut.

“In his first year at a new school, battling a few injuries and learning a completely new system, all the Arizona State transfer did was throw for 2,774 yards and 16 touchdowns, rush for 818 and 11 more scores and lead LSU to an upset of Alabama and an SEC West title,” ESPN’s Bill Connelly wrote.

Daniels has his critics, but the reasoning there holds up.

Playing quarterback at any big program provides a natural spotlight and the tough SEC schedule only increases those spotlight moments. Daniels’ dual-threat ability allows him to be a highlight-maker as well.

LSU should return its most talented pass catchers [autotag]Kayshon Boutte[/autotag] and [autotag]Malik Nabers[/autotag]. Tight end [autotag]Mason Taylor[/autotag] looked to be turning into one of Daniels’ favorite targets and he will take a step forward along with other talents like [autotag]Brian Thomas Jr.[/autotag]
