Miami Heat at Cleveland Cavaliers odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s Miami Heat at Cleveland Cavaliers odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Miami Heat (7-9) visit the Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse Sunday to take on the Cleveland Cavaliers (9-6). Tip is set for 7 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Heat vs. Cavaliers odds, and make our expert NBA picks and predictions.

The Heat are on the 3rd game of a 4-game road trip with the Minnesota Timberwolves on Monday to cap it off. They lost to the Washington Wizards on Friday 107-106, covering as 7.5-point underdogs.

Miami will be without its 2 leading scorers and will likely also be down C Bam Adebayo, the team’s most versatile defender. That will mean G Max Strus, who is averaging 15.5 points per game will be expected to step up.

While Miami is 4-12 against the spread (ATS), Cleveland is 8-6-1. The Cavs pushed as 10-point favorites in a 132-122 win Friday over the Charlotte Hornets. Cleveland is 0-5-1 ATS in its last 6 games.

It is led by one of the league’s best backcourts, a combination of G Donovan Mitchell and G Darius Garland. The duo combines to average 54.8 points and 13.6 assists per game.

Heat at Cavaliers picks and predictions

Prediction

Cleveland 108, Miami 102

Moneyline

PASS.

Cleveland should win, but at (-475) there isn’t much value. Miami is short too many key players to predict the upset as well.

Against the spread

LEAN HEAT +10.5 (-115).

The Heat are a deep team, and they proved that against Washington.

Strus is a quality scoring option, and G Kyle Lowry, who should be active, is among the best leaders in the NBA. Neither team is great on the offensive glass and neither team is turnover prone either.

The game should be relatively clean, and with an ultra-slow pace, a big lead may be difficult to come by. Miami is 2-2 ATS in its last 4 as well while Cleveland is 0-5-1.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 214.5 (-105).

Both teams rank in the bottom half of the league in offensive rebounding rate and neither team ranks in the bottom 3rd in turnover rate. The real aspect of this game that will impact the total is the pace.

Given Miami’s absent scoring, Lowry may make this game even slower. Both teams already sit in the bottom 4 in pace, so scoring in transition will be at a premium.

Despite overtime, the Heat went Under against Washington, and Cleveland has traded off going Over and Under the projected total in its last 4, hitting the Over in its last batter with Charlotte.

Given the lack of scoring for Miami and the pace of both teams, back the Under 214.5 (-105) here.

Miami Heat at Cleveland Cavaliers odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Monday’s Miami Heat at Cleveland Cavaliers odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Miami Heat (16-11) travel to Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse Monday to take on the Cleveland Cavaliers (16-12). Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Heat vs. Cavaliers odds and lines, and make our expert NBA picks, predictions and bets.

The Cavaliers have far exceeded expectations so far this season behind G Darius Garland and hopeful All-Star C Jarrett Allen. Cleveland is 7-3 over its last 10 games and is fifth place in the Eastern Conference.

The Cavs have been dominant some of the best defensive play in the league. That’s also helped them to be the best ATS team in the league at 21-5-2. The Heat are 16-11 ATS, tied for the fifth-best ATS record.

Miami will continue to be without its top two threats tonight, although they’ve played well without them. The Heat will also be absent F Caleb Martin, who has played a big role in a few of their short-handed victories.

The Heat are 5-1 ATS as road underdogs; the Cavaliers are 4-0-1 ATS as home favorites.

Heat at Cavaliers odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Cavaliers 108, Heat 102

Money line

PASS.

I like the Cavs too much to find value in the Heat at +170. However, Miami has seen success without Adebayo and Butler which makes Cleveland (-210) not a great value.

Look toward the spread in this one.

Against the spread

“LEAN” to the CAVALIERS -5.5 (-107).

It’s the riskier side but the Cavs have yet to not cover as home favorites despite just a 7-7 SU home record so I’ll continue to roll with them. They’ve been the most profitable ATS team in the league by a wide margin.

The Heat will have a tough time on the glass as Allen will be able to dominate the paint with Adebayo sidelined. Furthermore, the Heat have used ultra-hot shooting, scoring 113 and 118 points in their last two games.

Regressing to the mean is bound to happen, and I’ll take the team that’s better defensively and should have the advantage on the glass. The Cavs beat Miami by 26 on the road when these teams met Dec. 1.

Over/Under

BET on the OVER 207.5 (-115) as the best bet in this game. While I typically stay away from the Overs, this one just makes sense. The Heat are injured but Adebayo and Butler are defensive superstars.

I predict lots of points with Allen’s dominance on the glass mixed with the shooting and scoring on the Miami roster. The Heat have topped 110 in two straight games and the Cavaliers have topped 110 in six of their last eight outings. They’ve been impressive offensively.

The Heat scored just 85 the last time these two teams met, but G Duncan Robinson scored zero points in 20 minutes. That will more than likely change Monday. Mix his shooting with Herro’s increased dominance, and the Over feels like the better side.

They’re a respectable 5-2 straight-up and 4-2-1 against the spread across the past seven outings, and the Over has hit in four straight.

Heat at Cavaliers: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Heat 114, Cavaliers 99

Money line (ML)

The Heat (-700) will cost you seven times your potential return, and even though the Cavaliers (+500) have been hot garbage lately, you can’t risk that kind of lettuce on the visitors.

AVOID.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

The HEAT -10.5 (-110) are laying double digits on the road, and that’s risky. But the Cavaliers +10.5 (-110) were crushed at home by the Wizards Friday, and they have failed to cover each of the past five while going 2-6 ATS across the past eight games at home.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 208.5 (-110) is the lean in this one. Miami has hit the Over in four straight while going 5-0 in their past five against teams with a losing record.

The Over has connected in five in a row for Cleveland against winning teams, and four of their past five at home. The Over is also 5-0 in the past five meetings in this series.
