Who could replace Mark Adams at Texas Tech? 10 names to consider

With the news that Mark Adams is out at Texas Tech, we put together a list of 10 names to consider as the next Red Raiders head coach.

On Wednesday night the Texas Tech Red Raiders men’s basketball head coaching job became vacant following the announcement that Mark Adams would resign.

This came off the heels of Adams’ suspension for racially insensitive comments to the team. Now with Adams stepping aside, this will put Tech back in the head coaching search. Adams was named head coach after Chris Beard left for the Texas Longhorns. Less than two years later, both teams could make huge changes.

Rodney Terry has done an outstanding job since being named interim head coach but John Calipari has been linked to the job. It remains to be seen how that will all play out. As far as Tech is concerned they can begin their search for the next head coach.

College Sports Wire has a list of potential candidates.

Colts request to interview Mike Kafka for head coach vacancy

The Colts put in a request to interview Giants OC Mike Kafka for their head coach vacancy.

The Indianapolis Colts requested to interview New York Giants offensive coordinator Mike Kafka for their head coach vacancy, per Tom Pelissero of NFL Network on Monday.

The Colts have conducted seven interviews since the regular season ended last week, and it’s expected that the list will only grow longer as the playoffs progress.

You can follow along for the latest updates with the head coach search via our tracker.

Kafka, 35, is one of the youngest names in the coaching circle right now. He was drafted in the fourth round by the Philadelphia Eagles in 2010 and only started coaching in the NFL in 2017.

He started coaching with the Kansas City Chiefs as an offensive quality control coach (2017). He then spent four seasons as the quarterbacks coach (2018-2021) while adding pass-game coordinator duties for his final two seasons in Kansas City (2020-2021).

After that, Kafka was hired by Brian Daboll and Joe Schoen to be the offensive coordinator of the Giants, a role he’s excelled in and put that on full display in the wild-card win over the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday.

The head coaching search will be led by general manager Chris Ballard, but the decision ultimately resides with owner Jim Irsay.

Colts’ head coach candidate: 5 things to know about Ejiro Evero

The Colts interviewed Ejiro Evero for their head coach vacancy. Here are five things to know.

The Indianapolis Colts completed their head coach interview with Denver Broncos defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero on Thursday.

The Colts are scheduled to interview a wide range of candidates before making a decision, and you can keep up with the latest updates via our tracker.

Here are five things to know about Colts’ head coach candidate Ejiro Evero:

Colts request interviews with 4 head coach candidates

The Colts have put in requests with four head coach candidates.

The Indianapolis Colts got the ball rolling on their head coach search Monday by putting in requests with four candidates, per Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.

Those four requests include Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Shane Steichen, Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator Raheem Morris and Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson and defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn.

The Colts have the opportunity to interview all of these candidates this week. Only Steichen is among the four on a playoff team, and the Eagles secured a first-round bye so the Colts could interview him if they wanted to.

While Steichen and Johnson are two of the younger candidates that will get looks from many teams, Morris and Glenn are the more experienced candidates. Morris is the only one of the quartet that has prior head coaching experience.

The dates for these interviews haven’t been set yet, but all four appear to be solid candidates.

Be sure to check out our list of potential head coach candidates as this process gets under way.

15 head coach candidates Colts could consider

The Colts will begin their search for a new head coach, so here’s a look at 15 candidates they could consider.

The Indianapolis Colts (4-12-1) concluded their season Sunday with a loss against the Houston Texans (3-13-1). Now, it’s time to find a permanant head coach.

The Colts parted ways with former head coach Frank Reich during the middle of the 2022 season, and Jeff Saturday’s tenure as interim head coach came to an end Sunday, riding a seven-game losing streak.

It will be interesting to see how this process goes for the Colts. It will certainly be a collective effort between owner Jim Irsay and general manager Chris Ballard. However, the former has been exerting more power and influence on the team’s decisions recently, and it’s unlikely he will back down now.

Considering the events that unfolded during the 2022 season, this decision could very well be Irsay’s to make while Ballard gives some insight—assuming he’s still around.

There are several ways the Colts can go. They could bring in another offensive mind considering how historically bad the unit was this season or they could bring in a defensive mind with more experience.

Here’s a quick list of candidates for the Colts to consider:

Auburn Candidates 1.0: Who could replace Bryan Harsin as head coach?

A look at the potential candidates to replace Bryan Harsin as the head coach of the Auburn Tigers.

It has been a whirlwind day for the Auburn Tigers as it seemed that Mississippi State athletic director John Cohen was expected to be named the new man in charge on the Plains.

In the words of the late Billy Mays, “but wait there’s more.”

In a press release from Auburn University, the school announced that Bryan Harsin was let go as the football program’s head coach. Not an all-too-surprising move with a new AD coming into the fold. He was likely going to remove Harsin and bring in his own head coach to have a clean slate.

While it is really early in the process, Auburn Wire put together a list of the likely top candidates.

Raiders request interview with Patriots OC Josh McDaniels for open head coach job

Former Broncos head coach and Patriots OC Josh McDaniels will have his shot to interview for Raiders head coaching job

Even while interviews with General Manager candidates are ongoing, the Raiders are requesting interviews with head coach candidates.

The latest has the Raiders putting in a request to speak with Patriots OC Josh McDaniels, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

McDaniels has been the offensive coordinator in New England under Bill Belichick for 13 years. It hasn’t been a continuous stint, however, as McDaniels left to accept the head coaching job in Denver in 2009.

His head coaching career lasted two seasons before being fired. McDaniels went 11-17 in those two seasons, fired after going 3-9 in his second season.

From there he spent one season as the OC with the Rams before heading back under Belichick’s wing in New England.

In 2018 McDaniels had accepted an offer to become the Colts’ next head coach but then backed out.

Many expected the Raiders to request an interview with McDaniels after the team interviewed Patriots Director of Player Personnel Dave Ziegler. They’ve held several of what seem like they could be coach/GM package interviews.

Relax, this is exactly how Raiders head coach hiring process should go

Why have not heard of many Raiders head coach interviews? Relax, this is how it should go

In the social media age, things move pretty quickly. The new cycle turns over several times. Sometimes in a matter of minutes. And in so doing, hours can feel like days and days can feel like weeks. You find yourself wondering why everything is taking so long. Then if you actually stop and think about it, you realize it really hasn’t been that long.

The NFL offseason can certainly feel like that. For instance, when the Raiders season ended last month, we…oh, sorry, I’m seeing here the Raiders season ended a week ago. Literally a week ago today.

So, anyway, why haven’t they decided on a head coach yet? Is Rich Bisaccia coming back as head coach? Is there any truth to the Jim Harbaugh rumors? Why hasn’t he interviewed for the job yet? If not him, where are all the names of other candidates coming in to interview? WHAT’S HAPPENING?!

Relax. Take a breath. First things first.

What of a General Manager? They need one of those too. I know it seems like two weeks ago that Mike Mayock was fired, but in reality, it was five days ago. And unlike when he was hired, there are actually multiple legitimate candidates coming in to interview for the job.

The Raiders have interviewed three candidates and at least one more is reportedly expected. All are established NFL player personnel executives, which should be music to your ears if you’re a Raiders fan.

Also promising should be that it at least appears as if the focus is on hiring a GM prior to holding most of the interviews with outside head coach candidates. That’s great because the new GM should be in on those interviews.

Mayock was hired with Jon Gruden already in place. And thus it was clear Gruden would have the final say in all matters, including the draft, which was Mayock’s specialty. That led to a great many bad signings and trades as well as blown picks atop the draft.

So, let the Raiders do their interviews with GM candidates. And hope that means they hire one before turning their attention to the head coaching position.

Also, consider that some of the top head coach candidates out there are on coaching staffs that are still in the playoffs. So, if the Raiders were to rush the head coaching hire, they could miss out on some good coaches.

Some head coach candidates still with playoff teams include Bills OC Brian Daboll, Chiefs OC Eric Bieniemy, Buccaneers OC Byron Leftwich, and Rams DC Raheem Morris.

So, again, relax. I know it’s hard. We all want to know right now who the next head coach or GM will be because it factors into so many things. But the process can’t be too rushed. It needs to happen quickly, no doubt. But more important to get it right.

Jim Caldwell turns down interview for Raiders head coaching position

Former Lions head coach Jim Caldwell says thanks but no thanks to Raiders interview request

The latest news in Raiders head coaching search has them requesting an interview from former Lions head coach Jim Caldwell and being turned down, according to ESPN Dan Graziano.

Caldwell also turned down an offer to interview for the Vikings’ job.

This would be the third interview conducted by the Raiders for the head coaching position. The other two were with current Interim Head Coach Rich Bisaccia and Patriots LB coach Jerod Mayo.

The two seemingly most likely reasons Caldwell would turn down these requests to interview is either because he already has a job lined up, or because he didn’t feel he was a serious candidate.

The new details to the Rooney Rule states the team must interview two outside candidates from underrepresented groups. Mayo was the first, Caldwell would have been the second.

Keep in mind, the Raiders still don’t have a General Manager in place since firing Mike Mayock earlier this week. So, it’s hard to take an interview all that seriously if it’s being conducted without the next GM even in the room. Hard to blame Caldwell for turning down that offer.
