The University of Nebraska has announced a contract extension with Women’s Basketball Head Coach Amy Williams.

The University of Nebraska has announced a contract extension with Women’s Basketball Head Coach Amy Williams. The contract will now run through the 2028-29 season, paying Williams $950,000 with annual increases built in.

Williams said that she is excited about the future of Nebraska Women’s Basketball.

“I am grateful for their confidence in our leadership and the direction and vision we have for our program. There is a lot of momentum with Nebraska Women’s Basketball, and we are eager to keep chasing excellence. I am greatful for the dedication of our coaching staff, the hard work and commitment of our players, and the unwavering support of our amazing Husker fans.”

Williams is in her eighth season as Nebraska’s head coach. She has a record of 136-110 in Lincoln and a career record of 329-219.

The Nebraska Women’s Basketball team will face Texas A&M in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Tip-off is scheduled for 9:30 p.m. on ESPNU.

The Huskers returned home to play host to Alcorn State on Tuesday night.

The Huskers returned home to play host to Alcorn State on Tuesday night. Nebraska came out on fire in the first half, outscoring the Lady Braves 49-15, allowing for a calm second half to end in a 79-32 victory.

The Huskers finished just under 50% in field goal percentage, going 24-of-49 in the win. They also took numerous trips to the free throw, sinking 25 off of 36 attempts. Alexis Markowski served as Nebraska’s main factor on the night, dropping 20 points, hauling in nine rebounds and going eight-of-10 at the free-throw line. This is Markowski’s 10th 20-plus point game in her collegiate career.

Freshman Natalie Potts led the Huskers in rebounds, snatching 11 on the night. Potts also delivered seven points and led the team in blocks with three. Another notable freshman performance came from Logan Nissley. The freshman came off the bench for Nebraska to score a season-high 10 points in the win.

Nissley wasn’t the only player to come off the bench and deliver. Callin Hake joined in to drop a season-high 14 points, a career-high seven rebounds and a career-high three steals.

Nebraska moves to 3-0 for just the fifth time in head coach Amy Williams’ tenure as head coach. The Huskers will remain home for their in-state clash with Creighton on Sunday afternoon. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m. and can be viewed on the Big Ten Network.

A Nebraska women’s basketball player will miss the 2023-24 season due to a knee injury.

A Nebraska women’s basketball player will miss the 2023-24 season due to a knee injury. Allison Weidner suffered the injury during a practice on Friday.

The Humphrey, Nebraska native suffered a season-ending injury last season after starting the first 13 games of the 2022-23 season. At the time of her injury, she averaged 13.0 points, 10.6 rebounds, and 6.0 assists per game.

Head coach Amy Williams expressed her heartbreak for Weidner’s injury.

“We are heartbroken for Allison because we all saw how diligently she worked to get back out there doing what she loves with her teammates. She is a warrior, and we know how hard she will work to meet this new challenge and overcome this new injury as well.”

Nebraska will open the regular season against Northwestern State on Monday, November 6.
