Yet another Michigan football backup linebacker enters transfer portal

Best of luck to him. #GoBlue

It appears to be something of an epidemic in Ann Arbor — if you’re not likely in the two-deep and play the linebacker position, you may look to seek playing time elsewhere.

Michigan football has had success in recruiting linebackers from the transfer portal in each of the last two years, with Ernest Hausmann and Jaishawn Barham coming aboard. But this cycle, the Wolverines have now lost three linebackers to the transfer portal. It started with true freshman Jeremiah Beasley, an early enrollee, opting to enter the portal late last week. On Monday, former four-star Semaj Bridgeman joined him. Now, a sophomore — former three-star Hayden Moore — is also entering the portal.

Tuesday marks the last day this session of the transfer portal remains open.

Moore was committed to Nebraska originally but flipped his commitment just before early signing day in December 2022. The 2023 pledge was ranked No. 1,166 overall per the 247Sports Composite for that recruiting year.

Michigan football flips 2023 recruit from Big Ten school

Another one! #GoBlue

The Wolverines continue rolling in the transfer portal and on the 2023 recruiting trail.

With just days before the early signing period, the maize and blue were sitting at 20 commitments. The latest came from Youngstown, Ohio, native D’Juan Waller. On Monday, the momentum continued; the newest commitment came at the expense of a fellow Big Ten school.

2023 Aurora (Colorado) Regis Jesuit three-star linebacker Hayden Moore backed off his commitment to Nebraska on Sunday. On Monday, he made his flip official, announcing via Twitter he intends to continue his career at Michigan.

Moore has 24 reported offers, including Colorado, Iowa, Texas A&M and Wisconsin.

Michigan already nabbed a Nebraska linebacker though via the transfer portal. Ernest Hausmann committed to the Wolverines last week.

According to 247Sports, Moore is 6 feet, 3 inches, 210 pounds and the No. 1,110 player in the country according to the 247Sports composite.

How 2023 Husker football commits are faring so far

If the Huskers can hang onto this group of commits, the future looks bright.

Despite the loss of former head coach Scott Frost, the Nebraska Cornhuskers have 13 commits in their upcoming recruiting class. That bunch have been putting up strong numbers so far with most states’ high school football seasons just past the midway point.

Leading the way in Nebraska’s class of 2023 are 4-star recruits Omarion Miller, a 6-foot-2 wide receiver out of North Caddo (Vivian, LA) High School and Riley van Poppel, a 6-foot-4, 270-pound interior offensive lineman from Argyle (Argyle, TX) High School.

Both are ranked in the top 30 nationally at their position, according to 247 Sports, but they are far from the only future Huskers making an impact. Obviously, the world of recruiting is never 100% stable, especially after the firing of a head coach, so Mickey Joseph and the rest of the Huskers coaching staff will need to have good conversations with their commits to ensure they plan to stay.

Each recruit’s highlights and stats (if applicable and available), are listed below:

Colorado linebacker commits to the Cornhuskers

Another player joins the recruiting class of 2023

A 3-star linebacker out of Colorado has announced his commitment to the Nebraska Cornhuskers on Tuesday. Hayden Moore of Aurora, Colorado, announced his commitment via social media. More had received offers from other Power Five programs such as Texas Tech, Iowa State, Colorado, and Iowa. As a Junior, Moore had 11 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, and five sacks in 12 games.

Moore is the ninth player to commit to the class of 2023 and the third defensive player overall. He joins cornerback Dwight Bottle II out of Miami and defensive lineman Riley Van Poppel out of Texas. Inside linebacker coach Barrett Ruud recruited the Colorado native. Rudd played for Nebraska from 2001-2004 before enjoying a seven-year NFL career, most of it spent with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
