Iowa Hawkeyes women’s basketball going global with three games in Italy, Croatia

Ciao, Italia! The biggest star in women’s basketball is going global. Caitlin Clark and the Iowa Hawkeyes are headed to Italy and Croatia.

The Iowa Hawkeyes women’s basketball team captivated the nation last year from Iowa City, to Seattle, to Dallas on their magical run to the Final Four. So, why not take things even bigger and better?

That is precisely what the Hawkeyes are doing. The Iowa women’s team is going to Italy and Croatia in August to play three international games over the stretch of August 4-16. Why not make things global when you have the biggest star in women’s basketball in Caitlin Clark? She took America by storm and now can do the same globally.

Per Iowa’s official site, the team will take an international tour to the Amalfi Coast, Dubrovnik, Naples, and Split. The opponents have yet to be released. These exhibitions will be an experience for the Hawkeyes to travel abroad, experience Italy and Croatia, and spread the rapidly growing game of women’s basketball as some of the best ambassadors of the sport.

“We are incredibly excited to have the resources and opportunity to expose our program and give our players an opportunity to travel abroad. It will add tremendous value to their life experience, education and allow our team to get practice and game reps we wouldn’t get otherwise,” Iowa head women’s basketball coach Lisa Bluder said of the upcoming summer trip.

Longtime starter Gabbie Marshall made the decision to return to Iowa City for another season with the Hawkeyes. Now, she gets to take part in this historic trip for the program.

“We’re all super excited to share this trip with our teammates that haven’t been overseas yet. It should be a great team bonding experience for us,” Marshall said.

It will be the program’s first overseas expedition since the Hawkeyes traveled to Spain in the summer of 2019.

This news comes on the heels of more local news regarding the schedule for next season. Iowa’s men’s and women’s basketball teams will both be playing in Des Moines on Dec. 16 at Wells Fargo Arena. This doubleheader of games will see the women take on Cleveland State and the men face Florida A&M.

Final Four: Here come the Hawkeyes! The biggest takeaways from Iowa’s Elite 8 win

Final Four bound! The Iowa Hawkeyes’ magical season continues with their Elite Eight victory. Here are the biggest takeaways.

Your Iowa Hawkeyes are headed to the Final Four!

This season has been an incredible ride already but it has leveled up from something fun to thrusting itself into the history books and memories as one of the best seasons ever for a Hawkeyes’ squad.

In what was essentially like playing another game at Carver-Hawkeye Arena last night due to the support from Iowa fans, the Hawkeyes put on a show to make the trip worthwhile. The 97-83 win over Louisville in the Elite Eight sends the Iowa Hawkeyes to the Final Four in Dallas. It just their second time advancing this far into the tournament and the first since 1993.

The incredible part about this game was that it took everyone. There were contributions across the board and some to dive deeper into but all deserve their flowers. Monika Czinano once again showed her dominance in the paint with a masterclass on footwork.

Kate Martin is a glue piece that makes this team go and her contributions can’t be forgotten. Hannah Stuelke played significant minutes and played them well in the biggest moment of her young career. Assistant coach Jan Jensen, coaching with a heavy heart, dug deep and helped lead this family of Hawkeyes to a Final Four.

There are countless takeaways to discuss from this performance, but here are five of the biggest takeaways from the Hawkeyes’ Elite Eight victory over Louisville.

Hawkeyes Sweet 16 nuggets: Get to know the Colorado Buffaloes, a prediction

The Iowa Hawkeyes survived the first two rounds, but the same can’t be said for other higher seeds. Meet Iowa’s Sweet 16 opponent, Colorado.

The Sweet 16 is nearly upon us and getting to play a meaningful game this late in the season in the midst of an NCAA Tournament run truly is so sweet. The Iowa Hawkeyes are the highest seed left in their bracket after utter carnage to other host seeds and have their sights set on an incredible opportunity.

A high-powered offense paired with a mentality to turn it up a notch on defense when needed has spurred Iowa to the Sweet 16 and a Friday night matchup with the No. 6 seed Colorado Buffaloes. Colorado finds themselves in the Sweet 16 following a 61-53 upset victory over No. 3 Duke in overtime and now gets their shot to take down high seeds back to back.

Get to know who the Buffaloes are with their record, season stats, some key players to watch out for, and a look at their tournament run so far. Lastly, get ready for the game with a look at how Colorado can win, how Iowa can win, and a prediction as tipoff approaches.

Ice in her veins! Takeaways from the Hawkeyes’ buzzer-beater win over No. 2 Indiana

Ice in her veins! Caitlin Clark delivered the buzzer-beater against No. 2 Indiana. Here’s five takeaways from the Hawkeyes’ monumental win.

What a win for the Iowa Hawkeyes!

Could you script the ending any better than that? Less than two seconds left on the clock with one final gasp and your National Player of the Year (yep, it’s locked up now) delivers with the most clutch of shots imaginable.

Caitlin Clark delivered the game-winning 3-pointer to take down the No. 2 Indiana Hoosiers 86-85 in a nationally-televised game that had ESPN College GameDay in town. This game had an immense amount of hype leading into it and it shattered every single one of those expectations.

Now, the Hawkeyes head into the Big Ten Tournament as the No. 2 seed. This win sends them into the league tournament as arguably the hottest team in the conference. It also represents a much-needed, confidence-boosting win leading them into the postseason.

Here are the five biggest takeaways from the Hawkeyes’ exhilarating victory.

Iowa Hawkeyes vs. Indiana Hoosiers: TV, stream, broadcast details for Sunday

ESPN’s College GameDay is coming to Iowa as the Hawkeyes take on No. 2 Indiana. Here’s how to watch, stream and listen.

Sunday is going to be a special one inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena. The Iowa Hawkeyes are welcoming ESPN’s College GameDay to town for their very first basketball game ever, men’s or women’s. The place should be electric.

Coming to town are the Indiana Hoosiers, who are currently ranked No. 2 in the nation and aiming for the regular season sweep of the Hawkeyes after downing them 87-78 in Bloomington, Ind., earlier this month.

With the Big Ten regular season title wrapped up and already clinched by the Hoosiers, the Hawkeyes are playing this game for two reasons. The first is pride.

They are hosting College GameDay and the place is going to be a sellout crowd. That is a big game to win. Secondly, the Hawkeyes want to get a big-time win headed into the conference tournament to right the ship and play with confidence.

Here is how to watch, listen, and stream the game with a look at the key players for each squad.

Iowa Hawkeyes vs Michigan State Spartans: Stream, broadcast info, injury report for Saturday

The Hawkeyes host the Spartans at Carver-Hawkeye Arena on Saturday. Here’s how to watch, stream and listen to Iowa versus Michigan State.

The Iowa Hawkeyes are staying home for a pivotal matchup in their gauntlet of Big Ten play. The Hawkeyes are welcoming in the Spartans of Michigan State in a matchup of two teams in the NCAA Tournament right now but looking to build their resume, improve their conference standing, and get hot at the right time heading down the stretch before Big Ten Tournament play and NCAA Tournament play gets going.

Iowa comes into the matchup sitting with a record of 17-11 overall and a mark of 9-8 in conference play. The Spartans boast just slightly better records in each as they are 17-10 overall and 9-7 in Big Ten play. Iowa has dropped their last two games and should have a bit of a sense of urgency going into this game.

With the matchup a pivotal one for the conference standings and tournament seedings, Carver-Hawkeye Arena is certain to be a loud, charged up environment at tipoff.  Here is how to watch the Iowa Hawkeyes versus the Michigan State Spartans.

ESPN Bubble Watch has Hawkeyes still in NCAA Tournament, seeding suddenly in question

While both on the road, the Hawkeyes have dropped their last two. ESPN’s Bubble Watch has Iowa in the tourney but their seed in question.

The last two contests have not been kind to the Iowa Hawkeyes. Road basketball games in the Big Ten are always a gauntlet, but, at the end of the day, a loss is a loss and the NCAA Tournament selection committee views those as black and white.

Iowa’s high-powered offense has suddenly gone ice cold at the worst time of the year as they are closing out the regular season. ESPN’s John Gasaway has taken note of this and has the Hawkeyes in a treacherous spot with their seeding fading down the stretch.

In its past two outings, Iowa has lost road games at Northwestern and Wisconsin by 20 and 12 points, respectively. The defeat at the hands of the Badgers represented the worst showing on offense (0.85 points per possession) recorded by the Hawkeyes in 13 months. Road losses to at-large-level opponents are surpassingly common in the Big Ten, naturally. Still, the fact that Iowa’s offense suddenly looks weak in defeats by double-digit margins does raise the question of whether this group can hold on to its expected No. 8 seed. – Gasaway, ESPN

Prior to the loss to Wisconsin, Iowa was sitting firmly as a No. 7 seed but that appears to be fading after two consecutive slip ups. That said, the sky has not fallen yet.

The Hawkeyes have games against tournament-bound teams Indiana and Michigan State, and a matchup against a suddenly very feisty Nebraska team left to boost their resume along with the Big Ten Tournament.

Iowa basketball Bracketology roundup entering regular season’s penultimate week

The Iowa Hawkeyes are headed into the final stretch of the regular season. A look where they are projected among major Bracketology updates.

With just four games to go in the regular season, the Iowa Hawkeyes are pretty firmly in the 2023 NCAA Tournament barring some sort of unforeseen implosion and collapse down the stretch. Where they will wind up in the tournament is still the largest looming question.

Their next four games include matchups against at least two teams currently projected to be in the tournament in Indiana and Michigan State with Wisconsin still looking to pad their résumé and punch their ticket.

Also looming is the Big Ten Tournament which is another chance for the Hawkeyes to continue to build their résumé and stack a handful of big time wins together to improve their seeding.

Right now, Iowa can be found anywhere as high as a No. 6 seed and as low as a No. 11 seed with the truth and realistic expectations lying somewhere in the middle. That is unless they run the table and win the Big Ten championship in a repeat title defense.

Here is a roundup of some of the Bracketology projections for the Hawkeyes as they head into their final four games of the regular season with who they are projected to meet.

Chance at a No. 1 seed? Iowa women’s basketball Bracketology update

The Hawkeyes are eyeing down a massive week of huge implications. Can they steal a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament? A bracketology update.

Buckle up. This week of Iowa Hawkeyes women’s basketball is what it is all about. A chance at the Big Ten regular season title. A shot to take down two top-10 teams in a week’s span. And a chance to steal a No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament. It is all right here and ready for the taking.

The Hawkeyes start this week with a road trip to take on the No. 8 Maryland Terrapins. Iowa took down the Terrapins 96-82 inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena in early February.

Second up is a home matchup with the No. 2 Indiana Hoosiers. To say this game is huge would be an enormous understatement. This game has ESPN College GameDay headed to town and could have a regular season conference title on the line.

Here is a look at the Hawkeyes’ current bracketology updates, a look at other Big Ten projections, and the schedule of their week ahead.

They’re back! Iowa’s Kate Martin, Gabbie Marshall announce they are returning next season

The Iowa Hawkeyes women just secured their backcourt for next season with Kate Martin and Gabbie Marshall announcing they are returning.

The backcourt for the Iowa Hawkeyes women’s basketball team is already one of the best, if not far and away the best, in the nation this season.

Everyone knows Caitlin Clark and the household name she has become, but without her two backcourt teammates, who knows what things would look like.

Those two teammates are Iowa’s Kate Martin and Gabbie Marshall. They have each announced that they will be returning to the Hawkeyes next season to continue what they have built.

Kate Martin has appeared in 113 games as a member of the Hawkeyes. She is averaging seven points and 4.2 rebounds per game this season, but her contributions may come more so in her ability to calm things down, be the glue within the offense, and make the smart play. She excels with her instincts and intelligence. Next year will be Martin’s sixth collegiate season.

Another backcourt member returning is Gabbie Marshall. She has 117 games under her belt and is a defensive menace for the Hawkeyes. With 170 steals, she provides a defensive stopper to go with the high-powered offense. Next year will be Marshall’s fifth season with the Iowa program.

The two returners know that they are part of something special at Iowa and want to continue on their path of wins, excitement, and laying another brick to the foundation they have been so key in building.
