Report: Former Michigan football RB Hassan Haskins arrested

Terrible look for the former #Michigan star.

Life had been looking up for former Michigan football running back Hassan Haskins. After being a little-known three-star from Eureka (Missouri), he came to Ann Arbor, earned the starting job and set a single-game record in rushing touchdowns against Ohio State in the Wolverines’ first rivalry win in a decade. He was picked in the 2022 NFL draft by the Tennessee Titans and was brought to Nashville to back up star tailback Derrick Henry.

However, his future is in jeopardy.

According to a report, Haskins and his girlfriend were arrested due to a domestic violence exchange. Haskins allegedly strangled her. Makiah Green allegedly kicked through a door in their shared home and brandished a firearm. Green threatened to slash his tires and yanked off a $5,000 chain, per the report.

More on this story as it develops.

Titans RB Hassan Haskins has reportedly been charged with aggravated assault by strangulation.

Tennessee Titans running back Hassan Haskins is in legal trouble, as he has reportedly been charged with aggravated assault by strangulation.

According to police records obtained by Ā Scoop: Nashville, Haskins and his ex-girlfriend were both jailed due to an alleged domestic violence exchange.

Haskins himself was charged with aggravated assault by strangulation after he allegedly strangled the woman after she “liked” another man’s photo on the social media app, Instagram.

The report also states the Titans running back allegedly brandished a gun in a separate exchange a week later later in which the woman, Makiah Green, allegedly “assaulted him physically.”

Here are some more of the details, per Wayne Steen of Scoop: Nashville.

According to police records,Ā Hassan HaskinsĀ observed his girlfriend ā€˜likeā€™ an Instagram photo of another man at around Noon on June 22. The two argued, and she began to throw his shoes onto the floor, causing him to be angered and demand she stops touching his things. When she didnā€™t stop, he reportedly pushed her to the ground, causing an injury to the back of her head.

She says he then pulled her from the closet as she fought back and tossed her onto the bed, where he strangled her with both hands for approximately 10-15 seconds. Once he released her, the two exchanged slaps and continued fighting. He eventually threw her to the ground, where she fell atop a dog crate and was strangled a second time. He fled the home shortly after, and she took photos of bruises to her face, neck, and shoulder which she provided to police.

Fast Forward to June 29, and Hassan and Makiah are at Bourbon Steak by Michael Mina, eating dinner while discussing ending their relationship. He abruptly left the restaurant, leaving her to wait for an Uber to return home. She returned home to find Haskins already inside. She threw a glass at him, shattering it, and then locked herself inside their bedroom. She says Haskins kicked and punched through the door, breaking it in half, so he could enter. During the subsequent argument, she ripped a $5,000 chain from his neck, breaking it.

Haskins then shattered her phone, which was on the nightstand. She then retrieved Haskinsā€™ old iPhone so she could call her mother. When she turned on the phone, she says the screen filled with notifications and messages from his Snapchat, and it was a barrage of naked women and chats with them. She then shattered that phone and then assaulted him physically, which she says was from being extremely upset. Makiah then retrieved a knife from the kitchen and moved toward the garage to slash the tires of his vehicle. Haskins reportedly cocked a gun and said, ā€œI hope you would!ā€

The Titans told Scoop: Nashville that they “are aware of the situation and gathering additional information.”

Haskins was a fourth-round pick of the Titans in 2022 and appeared in 15 games for the team during his rookie season.

Titansā€™ running backs room cracks top 5 in PFF’s rankings

In a recent article from PFF ranking every running backs room in the NFL, the Titans unsurprisingly cracked the top five.

[anyclip pubname=”2103″ widgetname=”0016M00002U0B1kQAF_M8036″]

You could make a strong argument that the Tennessee Titans/Houston Oilers franchise has historically had the best running back lineage in the entire NFL.

Whether itā€™s Earl Campbell, Eddie George, Chris Johnson or Derrick Henry, this particular franchise seems to have a superstar in the backfield more often than not.

This year is no different, as The King is undoubtedly ready to defend his crown as the best running back in the NFL in another year in which he figures to be the focal point of the Titans’ offense.

However, the young duo of Tyjae Spears and Hassan Haskins shouldnā€™t be overlooked, either.

Spears in particular is a dynamic weapon out of the backfield who should immediately provide a ton of value in the third-down role.

The Tulane product can also add extra stress on a defense due to his ability to change the pace of the entire offense whenever heā€™s out there in relief of Henry.

Gordon McGuinness of Pro Football Focus recently ranked the NFLā€™s best running back rooms, and unsurprisingly the Titansā€™ trio cracked the top five, landing at No. 4. McGuinness stated the following about the ranking:

Derrick Henry remains one of the best pure runners in football. Since entering the NFL in 2016, his PFF rushing grade has been below 75.0 just twice, and he is coming off a season where he ranked third in the league by averaging 3.6 yards gained after contact per carry. Hassan Haskins might not have impressed much as a rookie, but 2023 third-round draft pick Tyjae Spears was electric at Tulane, earning a 90.6 PFF rushing grade in 2022.

McGuinness ultimately had the Titans coming in behind the San Francisco 49ers, Atlanta Falcons, and Cleveland Browns, with the Indianapolis Colts rounding out the top five.

If Tennessee is going to find itself playing relevant football at the end of the year, itā€™s a safe bet the ground game will be a big reason why.

Photos, video from Titans’ first week of offseason program

The Titans have released some photos and a video of players working out during the first week of the offseason program.

The Tennessee Titans began their offseason workout program this week, and in turn the team provided some photos and video of players getting back into the swing of things.

From those photos, we learned that quarterback Ryan Tannehill, whose future with the team is murky ahead of 2023, was indeed in attendance to start the voluntary portion of the offseason program.

However, we also learned via linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair that safety Kevin Byard, who refused to take a pay cut this offseason and is reportedly at a “crossroads” with the team, did not.

Of course, these workouts are voluntary and neither Byard nor anyone else on the team is required to be there until mandatory minicamp in June, but it’s worth noting Byard was in attendance on Day 1 last year.

Now, a look at the photos and video the team provided from the first week of the voluntary portion of the offseason program.

Titans offseason preview at RB: Will Derrick Henry get extended?

Derrick Henry carries a big cap hit in 2023, but the Titans have a few options to lower it.

With all the areas the Tennessee Titans need to address this offseason via the 2023 NFL draft and free agency, especially on the offensive side of the ball, one position that doesn’t need an upgrade is at running back.

That’s because Tennessee still sports one of the best in the business at the position in running back Derrick Henry, who is coming off another impressive season.

Despite many writing his obituary following an injury-shortened 2021, Henry still managed to finish second in rushing yards, scores, and he posted career-best numbers as a pass-catcher.

Making The King’s season more impressive was the fact that he posted those stats despite having a putrid line in front of him, and with little help around him in general.

Just imagine what he could’ve done if that wasn’t the case, but I digress…

While Henry is entrenched as the starter for the final year of his contract, there has been some thought that Tennessee might extend him to free up some cap space for this offseason.

The risk there is that Henry is turning 30 next January, and that’s typically the age when running backs start to break down. We’ll take a closer look at that and more in our offseason preview for the running back position.

Should you start Derrick Henry’s handcuff in fantasy football?

Do Derrick Henry owners who are scrambling for a replacement in fantasy football have an option in his handcuff, Hassan Haskins?

With the Tennessee Titans likely sitting star running back Derrick Henry in Week 17, fantasy football managers are now scrambling to replace one of their best assets in the league championship, which is just brutal.

When trying to replace your running back, the first step is to see who is behind him in the pecking order. For the Titans, it’s rookie running back Hassan Haskins.

The 2022 fourth-round pick is expected to get lead duties with Henry likely out (he’s doubtful), and that was pretty much confirmed by NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero on Thursday morning.

Haskins should see good volume in this one, both as a rusher and receiver, and he has a favorable matchup against a Cowboys defense that ranks 22nd against the run.

Despite all that, he is NOT a suggested lineup option for Week 17.

With Ryan Tannehill out and Josh Dobbs making his first career start under center, an already struggling Titans offense will have an even tougher time moving the ball, as Dobbs will likely limits Tennessee’s passing attack.

The Cowboys won’t have to respect the pass, which means they can stack the box with impunity and stuff the run. Making matters worse, the Titans sport one of the worst offensive lines in football that is also missing three starters.

If you’re hoping Haskins will maybe fall into the end zone at some point, it’s possible but unlikely. In fact, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the Titans fail to pass the 50-yard line the entire evening.

Of course, crazier things have happened than Haskins having a good game on Thursday night, but the deck is heavily stacked against him doing so. Find a solution elsewhere if possible.

Titans activate OLB Ola Adeniyi from IR among five moves

Titans OLB Ola Adeniyi is set to make his return after a nine-game absence.

The Tennessee Titans announced a grand total of five moves on Saturday ahead of their Week 13 battle against the Philadelphia Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday.

The team has activated outside linebacker Ola Adeniyi from injured reserve. Adeniyi was designated to return earlier in the week and is set to play in his first game since Week 2.

In order to make room for Adeniyi on the roster, the Titans waived kicker Caleb Shudak, who filled in for veteran Randy Bullock in Week 12. Shudak made three of four field goals in the Titans’ 20-16 loss to Cincinnati.

Shudak’s fate was sealed once Bullock, who had missed two games in a row, was deemed healthy enough to play this week. It’ll be interesting to see if the Titans try to bring Shudak back on the practice squad if he clears waivers.

Now, a look at all five of the moves Tennessee made ahead of Sunday.

Titans’ Hassan Haskins making a big impact on special teams

Titans RB Hassan Haskins has been a big contributor on special teams, both as a returner and defender.

The Tennessee Titans drafted running back Hassan Haskins in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL draft, and while he hasn’t seen much work as a running back, he has made an impact in another area.

According to Kayla Anderson of 104.5 The Zone, Haskins has recorded a total of 11 special teams tackles in 146 special teams snaps this season, which is tops in the NFL.

We saw Haskins in full force in Week 9 against the Kansas City Chiefs on a kickoff that saw the rookie blow up his blocker en route to making a tackle that energized the entire Tennessee sideline.

There is nothing head coach Mike Vrabel likes more than a good special teams play, so he must have been loving that. Haskins’ contributions on special teams don’t stop there, though.

The Michigan product has also been an effective kicker returner, with his 22 yards per return ranking ninth in the NFL among players with at least five attempts.

What makes Haskins’ performance on returns even more impressive is that the rookie didn’t do it in college, so this is something new for him that he figures to only get better at.

Haskins has seen just 55 offensive snaps this season, turning them into 10 carries for 42 yards and three receptions for seven yards. His lack of usage isn’t exactly surprising, though, with Derrick Henry gobbling up so many touches and Dontrell Hilliard playing well when given opportunities.

Haskins will likely have to wait for more chances at the actual running back spot until 2023 at the earliest (barring injury), but his ability to play both sides of special teams means he can stick in the NFL even if things don’t work out there.
