UFC Fight Night 192 post-event facts: Anthony Smith becoming an all-time great finisher

Check out all the facts and figures from UFC Fight Night 192, which saw Anthony Smith extend his winning streak with a main event finish.

UFC Fight Night 192 featured a rare first-round submission finish in the main event as [autotag]Anthony Smith[/autotag] put away [autotag]Ryan Spann[/autotag].

Saturday’s event, which took place at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, featured a key light heavyweight matchup in the headliner. Smith (35-16 MMA, 11-6 UFC) shined once again to close a fight card, as he managed to hurt Spann (19-7 MMA, 5-2 UFC) on the feet before closing the show with a rear-naked choke.

“Lionheart” almost never sees the judges, and that track record is starting to show itself on his overall UFC resume.

Hannah Goldy vs. Jessica Penne off UFC 260 due to COVID-19; bout expected to be rebooked

UFC 260 has lost a fight from Saturday’s lineup.

Jessica Penne’s long-awaited return to the octagon will have to wait longer.

[autotag]Hannah Goldy[/autotag] won’t be fighting Penne at UFC 260 on Saturday. In an Instagram post on Wednesday, Goldy (5-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC) revealed she tested positive for COVID-19 and is out of her scheduled preliminary card matchup.

Her fight against Penne (12-5 MMA, 1-3 UFC) is expected to be rebooked for the promotion’s April 17 card, according to a person with knowledge of the situation.

“Life is crazy man,” Goldy wrote on her Instagram post. “I literally can’t even believe I have to tell y’all that I won’t be fighting this Saturday. Flew out to Vegas and tested positive for COVID. I have never felt better, stronger or more complete. I was so ready to perform for y’all Saturday, unfortunately that was not Gods plan. I’ll be taking the necessary precautions and rescheduled as soon as I am healthy! I am so sorry guys. And I am so sorry @jessicapenne I have been looking forward to sharing the octagon with you. I will keep everyone updated. Thank you guys for all the support.”

Goldy has not competed in the UFC since August 2019, while Penne is coming off a nearly four-year layoff due to multiple injuries and a lengthy battle with the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency.

UFC 260 takes place at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. The main card streams on pay-per-view after prelims on ESPN/ESPN+.

With USADA suspension over, Jessica Penne targeted to fight Hannah Goldy at UFC 260

Jessica Penne hasn’t competed in the UFC since April 2017.

[autotag]Jessica Penne[/autotag] is back.

Having concluded a 20-month U.S. Anti-Doping Agency suspension, Penne (12-5 MMA, 1-3 UFC) is being targeted for a return against [autotag]Hannah Goldy[/autotag] at UFC 260 on March 27. The event doesn’t currently have an announced location or venue.

Two people with knowledge of the matchup recently informed MMA Junkie of the planned booking but asked to remain anonymous as the promotion has yet to make an official announcement.

Initially a four-year suspension, Penne’s discipline was reduced to a 20-month order by USADA after she tested “positive at trace levels for two metabolites of stanozolol, 16β-hydroxystanozolol and 3′-hydroxystanozolol” due to a tainted supplement. The suspension was made effective retroactively to the date of the test, April 8, 2019. It was Penne’s second career USADA suspension.

A former UFC women’s strawweight title challenge, Penne has lost three straight fights. After a loss to then-champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk, Penne was then defeated by Jessica Andrade and Danielle Taylor.

Goldy (5-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC), a Dana White’s Contender Series signee, was defeated by fellow UFC debutant Miranda Granger at UFC on ESPN 5 in August 2019. Goldy has not competed since then, though was booked for, and withdrew from, a fight vs. Loma Lookboonme in February 2020.

With the addition, the latest UFC Fight Night on March 27 lineup includes:

  • Champ Stipe Miocic vs. Francis Ngannou – for heavyweight title
  • Champ Alexander Volkanovski vs. Brian Ortega – for featherweight title
  • Jimmy Crute vs. Johnny Walker
  • Modestas Bukauskas vs. Michal Oleksiejczuk
  • Hannah Goldy vs. Jessica Penne

UFC on ESPN+ 26 adds Loma Lookboonmee vs. Hannah Goldy, Maki Pitolo vs. Takashi Sato

UFC Auckland has added Loma Lookboonmee vs. Hannah Goldy and Maki Pitolo vs. Takashi Sato.

Two fights have been added to the UFC’s return to New Zealand.

A women’s strawweight bout between [autotag]Loma Lookboonmee[/autotag] (4-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC) and [autotag]Hannah Goldy[/autotag] (5-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC), as well as a welterweight matchup between [autotag]Maki Pitolo[/autotag] (12-5 MMA, 0-1 UFC) and [autotag]Takashi Sato[/autotag] (15-3 MMA, 1-1 UFC), have been added to UFC on ESPN+ 26.

Lookboonmee and Goldy will both be competing in their sophomore UFC appearances when they square off in Auckland. Lookboonmee’s first promotional outing was successful. At UFC on ESPN+ 20 in October, she defeated Aleksandra Albu by split decision. Goldy will look to rebound from a unanimous decision loss to Miranda Granger at UFC on ESPN 5 in August.

Pitolo and Sato each are coming off losses. After punching his ticket to the UFC on Dana White’s Contender Series, Pitolo dropped his debut to Callan Potter at UFC 234 in February. The defeat marked one of the biggest betting upsets of the year. Sato was successful in his UFC debut, an April knockout of Ben Saunders. In his second outing, Sato lost by third-round submission to Belal Muhammad at UFC 242 in September.
