LSU gymanst Haleigh Bryant named a finalist for AAI Award

Haleigh Bryant has had a legendary career at LSU.

[autotag]Haleigh Bryant[/autotag] is having a fantastic final season with the Tigers, and she’s in the mix for quite a bit of postseason hardware.

On Friday, Bryant was named a finalist for the 2024 AAI Award, which is given annually to the top senior gymnast in the country. She joins a list of finalists that also includes Luisa Blanco (Alabama), Audrey Davis (Oklahoma), Maile O’Keefe (Utah), Gabby Wilson (Michigan) and Raena Worley (Kentucky).

Bryant is seeking to become the fourth LSU gymnast to win the award after Sarah Finnegan (2019), Ashleigh Gnat (2017) and Susan Jackson (2010). She’s LSU’s all-time leader in career perfect 10s and has won 11 SEC Gymnast of the Week honors.

Bryant and the Tigers host North Carolina on Friday night for the final meet of the regular season.

LSU’s Haleigh Bryant takes home another SEC Gymnast of the Week award

Haleigh Bryant became the first gymnast in LSU history to record a perfect 10 in every event in her career on Friday night.

For the second time in as many weeks, LSU star [autotag]Haleigh Bryant[/autotag] has been named the SEC Gymnast of the Week. It’s the fourth time she’s received the honor this season and the ninth time in her career.

Bryant was the Tigers’ top performer in a win over No. 19 Georgia on Friday night, recording an all-around score of 39.750. She also took home titles in the vault, beam and floor events.

She recorded a perfect score on the beam, giving her a gym slam — a perfect 10 in every event. She’s the first LSU gymnast to do so and the 14th gymnast in NCAA history. Bryant now has 13 career perfect 10s, the most in program history.

Bryant has ranked as the top gymnast in the nation for four weeks in a row now, and she will be back in action with the No. 3-ranked Tigers on Friday night as they return home to host Auburn.

PHOTOS: No. 5 LSU gymnastics sets program record in win over No. 7 Arkansas

The Tigers put up the highest score in program history and matched the highest score in the nation this season on Friday night.

The LSU gymnastics team delivered its most impressive performance yet this season in a win over No. 7 Arkansas on Friday night.

The No. 5 Tigers won 198.475-196.200 at home against the Razorbacks, marking the highest score in program history and the highest score posted in the country this season. It also ties for the 14th-highest score in NCAA history.

LSU matched its season highs on vault and beam scores, and the performance was anchored by a program-best 49.775 floor score thanks to Haleigh Bryant’s school-record 12th career perfect 10.

“Well, we got better. That’s what this week was about. The focus and the main goal was to get a good performance, a complete performance,” coach [autotag]Jay Clark[/autotag] said in a release. “I know everyone wants to talk about the score tonight and that’s great. I do not focus on whether we get a low or high score. It’s about our performance. We did our job tonight and we can do that same performance somewhere else. For us it’s about keeping our eye on the next step ahead of us and just taking it one step at a time.”

LSU will be back in action on Friday night when it hits the road to take on Georgia. In the meantime, here are the photos from the win over the Razorbacks.

LSU gymnastics notches win in SEC opener against No. 6 Kentucky

The Tigers recorded the highest team score in the country so far this season.

LSU gymnastics began conference competition on Friday, hosting No. 6 Kentucky in the PMAC.

It couldn’t have gone much better for LSU with the Tigers posting a score of 198.125, the highest score we’ve seen around the country this year. LSU had a strong performance on vault, headlined by a 9.975 from [autotag]Haleigh Bryant[/autotag] and a 9.925 from [autotag]Savannah Schoenherr[/autotag].

But it was the floor that pushed LSU’s score into the upper echelon. The Tigers’ floor score would have been a season-high for any team in the country and was the third-highest in program history.

[autotag]Kiya Johnson[/autotag] stole the show and anchored the rotation with a perfect 10. Johnson finished with a 39.650 in the all-around, a season-high for her.

The win was Jay Clark’s 50th career victory at LSU after taking over the program in 2021.

Next up for the Tigers is a trip to Missouri on Friday. Missouri, which is coming off a win against No. 20 Georgia and has just one loss to No. 4 Alabama, will be another tough test for LSU.

Two LSU gymnasts earn SEC honors after first meet

Last Friday night, the LSU gymnastics team took on Ohio State at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.

Last Friday night, the LSU gymnastics team took on Ohio State at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center for their first meet of the season. The Tigers came away with a 196.975-196.775 win and a couple of gymnasts earned SEC awards on Tuesday due to that performance.

LSU senior [autotag]Haleigh Bryant[/autotag] and freshman [autotag]Amari Drayton[/autotag] took home the SEC awards for SEC Gymnast of the Week and SEC Co-Freshman of the Week. Bryant finished as the top all-around gymnast in the country after week one with a score of 39.675. LSU needed her to be great against the Buckeyes and she was.

Drayton emerged onto the scene with a fantastic showing on the vault and the floor as she scored a 9.925 in both disciplines. LSU will now hit the road to Utah to compete in the Sprouts Farmers Market Collegiate Quad. The Tigers will take on No. 1 Oklahoma, No. 2 Utah, No. 5 LSU, and No. 12 UCLA.

What to know before LSU gymnastics competes for national title

Here are a few things to know before the NCAA championships.

For the ninth time in program history, LSU gymnastics is competing for a national title.

LSU scored a 197.145 in the semis and advanced along with Florida in Session 1. From Session 2, Utah and Oklahoma advanced to the NCAA Championship.

This was a year with plenty of ups and downs for LSU. The team was never completely healthy and was streaky. Yet, in spite of that, it will get to play for it all on Saturday.

LSU is led by head coach [autotag]Jay Clark[/autotag], who took over for legend [autotag]D.D. Breaux[/autotag] in 2020.

Here are the storylines to watch as LSU competes on the sport’s biggest stage.

LSU gymnastics advances to NCAA semifinals

LSU will advance to the NCAA semifinals for the 32nd time in program history

After placing second at the Denver regional, LSU gymnastics will compete in the 2023 NCAA Championships.

LSU scored a 197.750, which tied Michigan. After the tiebreaker process, it was LSU that got to advance.

The drama of the weekend reflected the way LSU’s done it all year. Injuries have forced LSU to deal with adversity, but the Tigers have strung together some hot streaks this year.

“This is a special group and it makes it that much sweeter that we got through it in the fashion that we did against some very good teams,” [autotag]Jay Clark[/autotag] said in a release.

A highlight of the weekend was LSU’s performance on bars, where the Tigers set a program regional record on the event.

[autotag]Haleigh Bryant[/autotag] posted a 9.975 on bars while [autotag]Alexis Jeffery[/autotag] led off with a 9.950.

Bryant came through in the clutch again on the floor with a 9.950. It was enough to keep LSU in the tiebreaker spot and put the cap on what was a strong weekend for Bryant.

The NCAA semifinals take place on April 13 in Fort Worth, Texas.

LSU will again be competing against SEC champion Florida as well as Denver, who LSU just saw last weekend.

LSU places 3 gymnasts on All-SEC team

Haleigh Bryant, Aleah Finnegan and Bryce Wilson earned honors after the SEC championships.

Following the SEC championship meet, a few Tigers have earned all-conference honors. [autotag]Haleigh Bryant[/autotag], [autotag]Aleah Finnegan[/autotag] and [autotag]Bryce Wilson[/autotag] made the All-SEC team.

Bryant and Finnegan earned it for their performances on the floor while Wilson excelled on vault. It should be noted that these honors are strictly based on performance at the SEC championship rather than the entire season.

For Finnegan and Wilson, it was the first time either has appeared on an all-conference team. Bryant is no stranger to the honor, having received it three straight years now.

Bryant entered the weekend with a chance at gymnast of the year, but that nod went to Florida’s Trinity Thomas as the Gators took home the team title, too.

With the regular season over, LSU sets its sights on NCAA competition where the Tigers are seeded No. 2 in the Denver Regional.

Hosted by No. 14 Denver, LSU will be one of nine teams competing in the regional. Notably, LSU will be joined by No. 3 Michigan and SEC peer Georgia. The postseason begins on March 31.
