Pat Connaughton/Blake Wesley NBA Tracker: Jan. 29-Feb. 4

A pretty forgettable week.

The teams for Notre Dame’s two NBA representatives went a combined 1-7 this past week. They did their best though.

[autotag]Pat Connaughton[/autotag]’s week started well enough. In the Milwaukee Bucks’ Jan. 29 loss to the defending champion Denver Nuggets, he had seven points, three assists and the block on Nikola Jokic that you can see in the above photo.

Connaughton quickly took a step back as he was held scoreless for the first time this season Jan. 31 at the Portland Trail Blazers. For the week, he averaged 2.5 points and 1.3 assists a game.

[autotag]Blake Wesley[/autotag] also got off to a decent start. He had seven points and did his best [autotag]Hannah Hidalgo[/autotag] impression with three steals in a Jan. 29 defeat to the Washington Wizards.

Wesley dished out six assists while also scoring four points and grabbing three rebounds during a Groundhog Day loss to the New Orleans Pelicans. He averaged 3.8 points and 2.5 assists a game during the week.

Pat Connaughton/Blake Wesley NBA Tracker: Jan. 30-Feb. 5

Both players are doing well right now.

During the past week, [autotag]Blake Wesley[/autotag] saw more action than he has at any point since returning from injury. The rookie played every game that the San Antonio Spurs did during the past week, and he really showed up during the final game. In 17 minutes against the Philadelphia 76ers on Feb. 3, he scored nine points and dished out two assists. That gave him a weekly scoring average of 3.0 and an assists average of 0.7.

[autotag]Pat Connaughton[/autotag] continues to make an impact as a starter for the red-hot Milwaukee Bucks. He best thrived Feb. 4 with 14 points and five rebounds to help beat the Miami Heat. On Groundhog Day against the Los Angeles Clippers, he nearly completed a double-double with eight points and 10 boards. For the week, he averaged 10.0 points and 7.3 rebounds a game on 40.7% shooting from the field.

As we get closer to the All-Star break, both players will continue to be worth watching.

Groundhog Day 2023: Did Punxsutawney Phil predict more winter or an early spring?

It’s Groundhog Day! What was the result?

It’s February 2, which means it’s that annual tradition that’s extremely quirky (although it made for a fantastic movie): Groundhog Day, in which a group gets Punxsutawney Phil the groundhog out from his home and waits to see if it sees its shadow or not.

If he sees his shadow, it’s six more weeks of winter. If he doesn’t, Spring will start early. Why? I don’t know. But that’s the tradition and that’s the only way to explain it.

Anyway! You’re here because you’re wondering: Did Phil see his shadow or not?

The answer is: He did. We get more winter. Boo.

Notre Dame hopes to begin ACC Tournament run vs. Wake Forest

It will be a long road for Notre Dame if it wants to make a Cinderella run in Greensboro, North Carolina, and win the ACC Tournament.

It will be a long road for Notre Dame if it wants to make a Cinderella run in Greensboro, North Carolina, and win the ACC Tournament. That road begins Tuesday when the 11th-seeded Irish take on 14th-seeded Wake Forest. When the Irish (10-14, 7-11) hosted the Demon Deacons (6-15, 3-15) on Groundhog Day at Purcell Pavilion, they put together one of their most dominant wins of the season, 79-58. The question is whether they can repeat that feat in a win-or-go-home situation.

In the recent past, the Irish have done very well in their conference tournament openers, winning 11 of their past 12. Discounting first-round byes, Mike Brey has failed to win his first game in a conference tournament only four times as Notre Dame coach. Strictly based on that, it’s very likely the Irish will advance to face North Carolina in the second round.

Juwan Durham will be the player to watch for the Irish as he cruised against the Deacons last time. He had a line of 18 points, nine rebounds, four blocks and two assists. He also shot 7 of 9 from the field. Knowing any game from here on out could be his last with Notre Dame, he’ll do everything he can to delay the inevitable.

How to stream ‘Groundhog Day’ on Groundhog Day

Well, it’s Groundhog Day … again.

Well, it’s Groundhog Day … again.

That’s right, it’s Feb. 2, which means Punxsutawney Phil the groundhog either sees its shadow or doesn’t, predicting whether there’s more winter or an early spring. This year? Phil did indeed see its shadow, so we’re in for six more weeks of winter.

It’s also a day to watch Groundhog Day, the all-time legendary comedy directed by Harold Ramis starring Bill Murray as the weatherman who relives the same Feb. 2 day over and over.

So how can you watch it on Tuesday as you prepare for another six weeks of winter weather? Flip on I Got You Babe and we’ll fill you in:

Can I watch the movie for free?

If you subscribe to cable, you can log into AMC’s site with your username and password and watch. I guess it’s not completely free given that you pay for cable! But you get the idea.

What other places have it?

Amazon Prime is offering it as a rental for $3.99. It’s on Google Play for the same price and on YouTube.
