Gronkowski let Brady know about interest in reuniting two months ago

Rob Gronkowski is now a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but it seems he started thinking about returning two months ago.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers pulled off a blockbuster trade yesterday with the New England Patriots that will bring tight end Rob Gronkowski out of retirement and reunite him with quarterback Tom Brady.

The pair worked wonders on the field during their nine-year run together, with Gronk catching 78 touchdown passes from the future Hall of Famer, most by any player. But while fans seemed shocked by the news, Brady, himself, may have seen it coming.

According to Gronkowski, he let Brady know about his possible interest in returning when they met up to throw around the football a few months ago, before Brady had made his decision to leave the Patriots and join Tampa Bay.

Per Gronkowski (via ESPN):

“I said, ‘I’m definitely interested in your decision that you make.’ I didn’t put any pressure on him. I said, ‘If there’s a right opportunity out there, and you go somewhere and that opportunity is right — even if you go back to the Patriots and I feel like the opportunity is right — there’s a possible chance that I would definitely love to reconnect.'”

Gronk went on to say that Brady was “all fired up and juiced up” about the idea. I’m guessing Brady is still feeling that way today.

Tom Brady celebrates the return of Gronk on Twitter

Bucs QB Tom Brady took to Twitter today to tell his old friend Gronk it’s “time to run it back.”

First Tom Brady, and now Rob Gronkowski.

It seems the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are becoming the Patriots of the NFC South after acquiring the star tight end from New England yesterday. Gronk will end his one-year retirement to join Brady and the loaded Bucs in 2020.

Brady and Gronk have dominated on the field together, and nobody seems happier about his return than Brady himself. The six-time Super Bowl champion took to Twitter this morning to celebrate the return of his friend.

Take a look.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers pulled off another offseason miracle today, working out a trade with the New England Patriots for former tight end Rob Gronkowski.

The trade teams Brady back up with his favorite target. The two worked wonders together on the field in New England, and Gronk’s absence last season was noticeable in the Patriots’ often-stagnant offense.

And, if you need further proof of how successful the Brady-to-Gronk connection has been, just take a look at this stat.

Welcome to the Bucs, Gronk!
