Browns injury update: 8 limited, 2 out at Thursday’s practice

Sheldon Richardson moved up to limited but Karl Joseph joined the list

The injury list from Thursday’s practice session in Berea is a crowded one, as is becoming the norm for the Cleveland Browns in 2020. Eight players, including starting RB Kareem Hunt and WR Odell Beckham Jr., were limited in the practice.

Two other Browns did not participate at all. Starting defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi and reserve LB Tae Davis remained out. Both also missed Wednesday’s practice.

Sheldon Richardson upgraded from not practicing on Wednesday to limited duty on Thursday. He is battling a thigh injury.

The list of limited players:

  • WR Odell Beckham Jr.
  • RB Kareem Hunt
  • DT Sheldon Richardson
  • DE Adrian Clayborn
  • S Karl Joseph
  • OC JC Tretter
  • LB Jacob Phillips
  • CB Greedy Williams

Joseph is a new addition to the list with a hamstring issue.

Browns injury update: Odell Beckham Jr. joins the crowded injury list

The Browns injury update for Thursday’s practice is a lengthy one

The Cleveland Browns injury list after Thursday’s practice featured some positives but also some new negatives.

The good news: Left guard Joel Bitonio and right tackle Jack Conklin each upgraded their statuses from Wednesday. Bitonio went from out to limited with his back issue, while Conklin moved from limited to a full participant with an elbow injury. Cornerback Denzel Ward also moved from DNP to limited with his groin injury.

The bad news: Odell Beckham Jr. and Ronnie Harrison went from full participants on Wednesday to the injury list on Thursday. Beckham was limited with a back injury that flared for the starting wideout. Harrison, a reserve safety, had an illness.

Three Browns players remained with did not participate status both days:

Injuries in Cleveland could leave a glimmer of hope for Washington

Washington will be fighting an uphill battle on Sunday in Cleveland, but a few injuries for the Browns might provide hope for the visitors.

[jwplayer XGQeKGws-ThvAeFxT]

With both teams at full strength this weekend, it would be fair to say that Washington will likely get the short end of the stick and fall to a more talented Cleveland roster, on paper at least.

Luckily for the visiting team, games aren’t played on paper, and there are a number of different factors to consider when preparing for an NFL game. One of those factors is injuries, and while Washington is definitely banged up, mainly on the offensive line, a rash of injuries has been announced for the Browns as well, with several coming at key positions. Here are the most notable injuries we’re looking at ahead of Sunday’s matchup:

CB Greedy Williams — Out

CB Denzel Ward — Questionable

DE Oliver Vernon — Out

It may not seem like a lot to start, but if both Williams and Ward are forced to sit on Sunday, Washington WR Terry McLaurin may be able to run free through the secondary and have himself a day. It’s also important that Vernon is out, as Washington’s banged-up offensive line will take whatever they can get when already dealing with Myles Garrett.

Keep an eye on Ward going forward, as his decision to play or not may have major ramifications.

Daily Fantasy: The one Browns player you need to start in Week 3 on DraftKings

With the Washington’s pass protection not up to par, the Cleveland Browns defense and a special team is a must-start in Week 3 on DraftKings.

The Cleveland Browns are looking to build on their Week 2 success and the key to keeping the good vibes going is a Washington offense that is allowing a pressure rate of 28% on offense, something that should allow Myles Garrett and the Browns defense to feast in the Sunday matchup.

The Cleveland defense and special teams are the best Browns to start in Week 3 on DraftKings. The Washington Football team has allowed a sack on 9.9 percent of their passing plays so far this season, the third-highest mark in the NFL, and that was before losing Pro Bowl guard Brandon Scherff to injury.

After playing well in spurts against the vaunted Ravens offense, Cleveland will face a more inexperienced offense in Washington, that’s still working to develop continuity and an identity outside of Terry McLaurin.

For their part, the Browns have recorded a pressure on 28.6 percent of opposing dropbacks (No. 6 in the NFL), and with the Cleveland offense starting to find an identity with their two head monster at running back, the home team could find an early rhythm that forces The Football Team to turn into a one-dimensional passing offense.

That would allow Myles Garrett, Sheldon Richardson, and Larry Ogunjobi to pressure Dwayne Haskins, causing errant throws or much-needed sacks.

Greedy Williams, Mack Wilson and Kevin Johnson back and active at Browns practice

Good news on the Browns injury front heading into Week 3

Three key Cleveland Browns defenders who all missed the first two games with injuries were back on the practice field and active participants in Monday’s session in Berea.

Cornerbacks Greedy Williams and Kevin Johnson were joined by linebacker Mack Wilson in working through individual drills on Monday. It’s the first practice for any of the key defensive trio since before the season began.

Williams has missed nearly a month since injuring his shoulder in one of the final training camp sessions. He is expected to return to the starting lineup opposite Denzel Ward once he’s back in full action.

Johnson suffered a lacerated liver in a freakish practice injury on August 20th. The veteran was on track to capture the slot CB role with a strong camp before the injury, which left him briefly hospitalized.

Wilson hyerextended his knee in a practice drill on August 18th and has not returned to the practice field since. The second-year backer will get back into the starting lineup as soon as possible. Browns coach Kevin Stefanski was ebullient over Wilson’s return, noting in his Monday Zoom press session,

“To see him back out there was really outstanding … he brings energy”

Final Browns Week 2 injury report: 4 out, 6 questionable for Thursday’s game with the Bengals

The top 3 offensive tackles are all questionable

The Cleveland Browns will enter the Week 2 home opener against the visiting Cincinnati Bengals shorthanded thanks to a crowded final injury report. Four players were ruled out of Thursday’s game in the team’s final official injury list.

CB Kevin Johnson (liver), LB Jacob Phillips (knee), CB Greedy Williams (shoulder), LB Mack Wilson (knee) will all miss the game. None of those are surprising developments; all but Phillips also missed Week 1 with their injuries suffered in training camp. Phillips was injured in Sunday’s loss to the Baltimore Ravens and was in a large knee brace later that night.

Three of the six players designated as questionable are offensive tackles. Starting left tackle Jedrick Wills (shin), right tackle Jack Conklin (ankle, finger) and top backup Chris Hubbard (ankle) are all game-day decisions to face the Bengals.

They’re joined by WR Jarvis Landry (hip), C JC Tretter (knee) and DE Olivier Vernon (abdomen) with the questionable designation. All six questionable players were limited participants in practice on Wednesday.

Browns injury update: 4 players ruled out including CB Greedy Williams

JC Tretter and M.J. Stewart are listed as questionable

After several weeks of numerous injuries of all types in training camp, the Cleveland Browns revealed their official injury status report for the players for Week 1.

Four players, including starting cornerback Greedy Williams, have been officially ruled out for Sunday’s game in Baltimore. Williams did not practice all week as he continues to battle a shoulder injury suffered in training camp.

Also ruled out: CB Kevin Johnson (liver), LB Mack Wilson (knee) and OL Chris Hubbard (ankle). Johnson and Wilson’s injuries have been known to rule them out of Week 1 for some time, so they are not surprises. Hubbard was slated to be the team’s top reserve offensive lineman.

Two players, starting center JC Tretter and slot CB M.J. Stewart, are officially questionable with their injuries. Both were limited participants in practice sessions this week. Tretter’s knee leaves him a game-time decision. If he can’t play, rookie Nick Harris will slide into the starting spot.

Greedy Williams among 3 Browns CBs still not practicing

Ronnie Harrison’s first practice overshadowed by 3 CBs still being out

The injury concerns continue for the Cleveland Browns secondary. While newcomer Ronnie Harrison took to the practice field for the first time on Sunday at safety, three of the team’s cornerbacks remain sidelined with injuries and did not participate.

Starting outside CB Greedy Williams continues to sit out with a shoulder injury. He has not practiced since hurting the shoulder in practice two weeks ago.

Both the cornerbacks penciled in for slot duty remain out as well. M.J. Stewart is idled with a hamstring injury suffered the same day Williams hurt his shoulder. Veteran Kevin Johnson continues to sit out with his lacerated liver.

Harrison, acquired in a trade with Jacksonville during the week, wore No. 37 in his Browns practice debut.

Browns injury update: Myles Garrett, B.J. Goodson return to practice, Greedy Williams remains out

Browns injury update: Myles Garrett, B.J. Goodson return to practice, Greedy Williams among several still out

The daily chronicling of the comings and goings from the Cleveland Browns injury list remains an engrossing task even with training camp almost over. Tuesday’s edition of the Browns injury update thankfully features two players returning and no new additions to the list.

Myles Garrett (wrist) and B.J. Goodson (personal) returned to the practice field in Berea on Tuesday afternoon. Garrett made his first appearance since Saturday. He missed Sunday’s enhanced practice session at FirstEnergy Stadium for what head coach Kevin Stefanski termed “precautionary reasons”. No. 95 was visible going through drills in the portion of practice open to the media,

Goodson also missed a couple of days for personal reasons.

Several players remain out, most notably starting CB Greedy Williams. The second-year CB continues to sit with his shoulder injury. Starting center JC Tretter is still rehabbing from his knee procedure. He’s joined by OL Chris Hubbard (ankle), LB Mack Wilson (knee), CB M.J. Stewart (knee) and CB Kevin Johnson (liver). Rookie safety Grant Delpit is on injured reserve with his torn Achilles tendon.

Myles Garrett among several Browns missing Sunday’s practice in FirstEnergy Stadium

Garrett was one of 8 Browns sitting out Sunday’s practice

The Cleveland Browns took to FirstEnergy Stadium for Sunday’s practice session. With just two weeks until the Browns travel to Baltimore for the season opener, it was the first time for many of the players to get into their locker rooms and feel the grass at the home of the Browns,

As is the case with the Browns training camp of 2020, several players missed out on the on-field practice and instead only worked with trainers or stayed idle altogether. The injuries remain an issue for Cleveland.

Myles Garrett is the most notable name sitting out Sunday’s session. The defensive end was given the day off by head coach Kevin Stefanski with a minor wrist injury. Stefanski labeled it nothing more than precautionary, but it’s the second separate ailment that has held Garrett out of camp in the last two weeks.

Other Browns on the active roster who did not practice Sunday:

  • CB Kevin Johnson (liver)
  • LB B.J. Goodson (personal)
  • C JC Tretter (knee)
  • CB M.J. Stewart (hamstring)
  • CB Greedy Williams (shoulder)
  • OT Chris Hubbard (ankle)
  • LB Mack Wilson (knee)

The Browns are off on Monday.
