The GTA Trilogy is back on PC

PC players can pick up the trilogy once again.

The GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition  came out last week, only for Rockstar Games to immediately take it down. Now the games are back up.

When the GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition  launched on Thursday, it was nearly unplayable on PC. Things were so bad that the entire Rockstar Game Launcher went down for maintenance. The launcher went back up on Friday but the GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition  was still unavailable for purchase. There was a lot of speculation as to why but it seems the issues stem from some inner-workings that should not have been part of this release.

GTA: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition  is unavailable to play or purchase as we remove files unintentionally included in these versions,” Rockstar said on Twitter. “We’re sorry for the disruption and hope to have correct ones up soon.”

Rockstar finally put the GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition  back up for sale on Sunday.

It’s safe to say that the GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition  isn’t garnering the reception that Rockstar was hoping for at all. Fans are still sharing  hilarious bugs and glitches from the games. Not to mention  certain features from the PS2 versions being missing aren’t winning people over. Take-Two is confident that Grand Theft Auto has the staying power of James Bond, though.

‘Grand Theft Auto’ has the same staying power as ‘James Bond’ according to Take-Two’s CEO

Strauss Zelnick believes Red Dead Redemption is in the same boat.

Strauss Zelnick, the CEO of Take-Two interactive, believes Grand Theft Auto  is on par with James Bond  in terms of lasting appeal.

During the Jefferies Virtual Global Interactive Entertainment Conference on Thursday, Zelnick spoke about whether or not Take-Two’s franchises can maintain popularity for years to come. He believes that if a franchise is consistently excellent, like 007, then they’ll likely endure.

“I don’t know if you saw [No Time To Die], I just saw the new Bond film,” Zelnick said via VGC. That was great. And you would like every franchise to be James Bond. There are precious few entertainment franchises of any sort that fall into that category, but they do exist. And I think GTA  is one of them, I think [Red Dead Redemption] is one of them.”

Zelnick went on to say that the NBA 2K  series is in the same boat, especially since the sport of basketball itself is so popular. He also had some interesting thoughts on annual releases.

“I’ve always said that annualizing non-sports titles runs the risk of burning out intellectual property even if it’s good,” Zelnick said via VGC. “So we take the time to make something that we think is incredibly phenomenal and we also rest titles intentionally so that there’s pent-up demand for that title so that it’s a special event.”

That kind of explains why Grand Theft Auto  games only come out once every several years, eh? Take-Two probably  should have delayed the GTA Trilogy  since people are already used to waiting ages for these, then. At least the bugs are hilarious.

We had a chance to  speak with Rockstar about the GTA Trilogy  recently too.

‘GTA Definitive Edition’ – funniest bugs and glitches in the remasters

Oh yes, there will be memes.

So the GTA Trilogy  came out on Thursday and reception hasn’t been too kind. By that, I mean  Rockstar Games  are getting dragged through the mud by fans who are, well, let’s say a smidge disappointed with this so-called “Definitive Edition” full of wonky character models and absolutely bananas glitches.

While it stings to see the classic Grand Theft Auto  games in such a rough shape, at least the bugs are funny. Like, knee-slap-worthy stuff. From giant, hotdog-like fingers to cars running NPCs over mid-cutscene. It’s no wonder why  Rockstar is struggling to keep the PC version afloat

I mean, just look at this monstrosity below. Poor Ryder looks like a 3D printing job gone wrong.

Remember when the  removal of certain cheats  was the worst thing we had to fear about these remasters? Ah, how naive we were.

Believe it or not, Ryder’s elongated limbs aren’t even the worst of it. Below you’ll find a small collection of the best bugs and glitches that the GTA Trilogy  has to offer. And yes, there are plenty of glorious memes.

‘GTA Trilogy’ unplayable on PC after hours of maintenance

GTA Trilogy has been unplayable on PC for more than half of the total time it has been available.

GTA Trilogy has just launched less than 24 hours ago globally, and already PC players will have found at least half of that time to be entirely unplayable — and not in the hyperbolic sense.

The Rockstar Games Launcher on PC was taken down for maintenance at roughly 7pm GMT last night, November 11, and are currently offline at the time of writing. This means the GTA Trilogy has been unplayable on PC for more than half of the total time it has been available.

Other Rockstar PC titles are also affected, including Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption 2. The GTA Trilogy is entirely playable on console however, and San Andreas is even included in Xbox Game Pass.

Rockstar’s tweet about maintenance has earned 2.3K replies from frustrated players. Rockstar tweeted an update this morning just before 10am, thanking players for their patience and understanding. Many of the replies were less patient and understanding than you would be led to believe.

We recently spoke to developers at both Rockstar and Grove Street Games to find out how they made the GTA Trilogy.

In the process we also discovered that some of the classic cheats found in the PS2 versions of the game are now removed, however we’ve got a list of San Andreas cheats right here for you to play around with, in both the console and PC version, whenever that is playable again.

‘GTA Trilogy’: the best ‘San Andreas’ cheats

These cheats for Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas in the GTA Trilogy are essential for some chaotic fun.

The legendary trio of Grand Theft Auto games from the PlayStation 2 era has returned in a single package with Grand Theft Auto Trilogy. GTA Trilogy includes Grand Theft Auto III, GTA Vice City and GTA San Andreas, offering you potentially hundreds of hours to spend driving fast and shooting free in a variety of urban locales.

If you’re eager to jump back into this blast of nostalgia, I can’t blame you, and we have specific unlock times for each platform right here. One of our favorite things about classic GTA games has always been cheats. More health, more guns, tanks, you name it. This is one of the simple pleasures we can derive from Grand Theft Auto, and while GTA Trilogy removes some cheats, many of the very best ones are still there. If causing mayhem is how you get your nostalgia kicks, then you need the cheats we’ve listed below.

[mm-video type=video id=01fm7bsdg4e7hwk3yb3b playlist_id=none player_id=none image=https://images2.minutemediacdn.com/image/upload/video/thumbnail/mmplus/01fm7bsdg4e7hwk3yb3b/01fm7bsdg4e7hwk3yb3b-a249c3e5a3471a0187b8d432924aeae0.jpg]

These San Andreas console cheats have been confirmed to work on PlayStation 5, and the cheats listed use PlayStation inputs. The equivalent buttons on both Xbox and Nintendo Switch should also activate the same cheats.

Rockstar has removed some cheats from the ‘GTA’ remasters due to ‘technical reasons’

Certain cheats “didn’t play well” in the remasters.

Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition launches today. A trilogy package of remasters, it features the games that defined the open-world sandbox genre almost exactly as you remember them. Almost.

As well as coming with a host of visual improvements such as improved character models, better draw distance, increased pedestrian density, more foliage, better weather effects and a lot more besides, there will be a couple of things missing from the game.

One fan-favorite feature of the classic GTA games is the cheats. Input a code and you’ll see tanks fall from the skies, riots break out on the streets, or your bank balance swelling with freshly deposited dollars.

[mm-video type=video id=01fm7bsdg4e7hwk3yb3b playlist_id=none player_id=none image=https://images2.minutemediacdn.com/image/upload/video/thumbnail/mmplus/01fm7bsdg4e7hwk3yb3b/01fm7bsdg4e7hwk3yb3b-a249c3e5a3471a0187b8d432924aeae0.jpg]

For the remasters, some of these cheats have been removed due to technical reasons.

“We actually had to remove a couple for technical reasons, certain things that didn’t play well in the Unreal base,” producer Rich Rosado told USA Today. “But that’s actually where I’ll leave it. There’s some fun with discovery. I’m not saying plus or minus, but I’d rather not just go right on the nose before the release of the game and go straight to the end credits.”

While Rosado confirmed that some cheats have been removed, he stopped short of confirming whether or not new ones will replace them. But it’s just as he said, there’s some fun with discovery.

Unfortunately, PC players aren’t in the same boat because Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition  won’t be up on the Rockstar Store until release day. The game won’t be available on Steam or the Epic Games Store at launch, either.

‘Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas’ is coming to VR for the Oculus Quest 2

Here we go again…

Here we go again: Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas  is getting the VR treatment for Occulus Quest.

During a Facebook Connect event on Thursday, Mark Zuckerberg announced that the classic open-world shoot’em up from Rockstar Games is getting the VR treatment for the Oculus Quest 2. It’s unclear if this project has anything to do with Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition, though.

“Get a new perspective on Los Santos, San Fierro, and Las Venturas as you experience (again or for the first time) one of gaming’s most iconic open worlds,” said a post on the Oculus Blog. “This is a project many years in the making, and we can’t wait to show you more of it.”

There’s no video footage or screenshots of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas in VR just yet, so you’ll just have to imagine everyone’s favorite CJ meme in first-person.

While VR isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, Resident Evil 4 VR proves Oculus knows how to retrofit a classic game for this new(ish) medium. Maybe Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is the title  Dr. Dre is recording music for, even. Who knows!

Dr. Dre is working on music for ‘Grand Theft Auto’ according to Snoop Dogg

GTA hasn’t forgot about Dre.

Dr. Dre is allegedly working on music for Grand Theft Auto, according to none other than Snoop Dogg.

In a recent interview, Snoop Dogg commented on his friend and long-time collaborator’s future. Specifically, what music he’s been working on. The answer is, frankly, pretty surprising to say the least.

“I do know he’s in the studio,” Snoop said via Rolling Stone. “I do know he’s making great ****ing music. And some of his music is connected to the GTA game that’s coming out. So I think that that will be the way that his music will be released, through the GTA video game.”

Now we don’t know what Grand Theft Auto Snoop Dogg is commenting on here. It could be music for Grand Theft Auto Online or the forthcoming Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition. Either way, this is exciting news!
