Browns’ AGM Glenn Cook will interview for Commanders’ vacant GM job

This likely will not be Cook’s only interview

Black Monday in the NFL is here as the 2023 regular season wrapped up on Sunday night. For once the Cleveland Browns have requests for their personnel to interview for other team’s vacancies instead of the other way around like it normally is. Assistant general manager Glenn Cook is the newest member of the list as the Washington Commanders look for a new general manager.

It felt like Cook would be a hot name this cycle after he had a couple of general manager interviews last year. Now, the Commanders have requested and were granted permission to interview the Browns assistant general manager for their head of football operations position in Washington. This likely will not be Cook’s only interview unless Washington moves quickly and tries to hire him quickly.

If Cook is hired as a general manager or head of football operations the Browns will get multiple draft picks for developing a minority candidate. Cleveland would get a third round pick this year as well as a third next year if Cook gets a promotion.

Browns Assistant GM Glenn Cook does not get second interview with Titans

Glenn Cook was not named as a finalist for the Titans’ GM job.

While the Cleveland Browns passed on some great news today, announcing the hiring of defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz, assistant general manager Glenn Cook did not get good news. According to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network, Cook, who interviewed for the vacant general manager role with the Tennessee Titans, has not been named a finalist for the job.

The Browns were rewarded two compensatory picks a year ago when the Minnesota Vikings hired Kwesi Adofo-Mensah to replace Rick Spielman. If Cook also gets a GM job, the Browns would get two more third rounders. With the GM jobs drying up around the league, however, the Browns may have to wait until next year for those picks.

Titans confirm two completed GM interviews on Friday

The Titans have two more interviews scheduled for Saturday.

The Tennessee Titans announced they completed a pair of general manager interviews on Friday, bringing their total of completed interviews with candidates up to four.

The two from Friday were Browns Assistant general manager and vice president of player personnel Glenn Cook, and 49ers director of player personnel Ran Carthon.

On top of those two, the Titans have also interviewed two of their own in vice president of player personnel Ryan Cowden and director of player personnel Monti Ossenfort.

Tennessee is set for two more interviews on Saturday with Chicago Bears assistant general manager Ian Cunningham and Arizona Cardinals vice president of player personnel Quentin Harris.

The Cardinals actually have their own general manager vacancy, so Harris will likely be in the running for that job. Also in the running is Ossenfort, who interviewed for the gig on Friday.

The Titans have also put in requests with 49ers assistant GM Adam Peters and Buffalo Bills senior director of pro personnel, Malik Boyd. Peters has since declined, while we haven’t heard anything new on Boyd.

Browns assistant GM Glenn Cook interviewing with Titans today

A Cleveland executive is interviewing with the Titans today.

The Cleveland Browns are in the midst of their own defensive coordinator search, but they have one of their own participating in another team’s search as well. As the Tennessee Titans look for a new general manager, they are bringing in Cleveland’s assistant general manager Glenn Cook for an interview.

Just as they received a year ago when Kwesi Adofo-Mensah was hired by the Minnesota Vikings, the Browns would receive two third round compensatory picks if Cook were to be hired by the Titans. The Browns currently hold eight picks in the 2023 NFL Draft but could get another one soon.

Titans interviewing Browns exec Glenn Cook for GM job on Friday

The Titans have a pair of interviews with GM candidates on Friday.

The Tennessee Titans have yet another interview scheduled with a general manager candidate on Friday.

Per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Titans will interview Cleveland Browns assistant general manager and vice president of player personnel, Glenn Cook, for their vacant general manager position today.

Cook is one of two interviews the Titans have scheduled for Friday, with the other being with San Francisco 49ers director of pro personnel, Ran Carthon.

The Browns exec has held the vice president of player personnel title since 2020, but was promoted to assistant GM in 2022. He was a candidate for the general manager openings of the Chicago Bears and Minnesota Vikings last offseason.

“Glenn is super well-rounded,” Browns GM Andrew Berry said of Cook last year. “Pro, college [scouting] background. Does operations. Very bright. Outstanding people skills.”

Cook first arrived in Cleveland in 2016, serving as the team’s assistant director of pro scouting, a role he held until 2020 before being promoted.

He also served as scouting assistant with the Indianapolis Colts from 2011-12, and then became a scout with the Green Bay Packers from 2012-15.

Prior to that, Cook played linebacker with the Miami Hurricanes from 2004-08 and was later a graduate assistant with the university.

Browns could be in line for more comp picks as Glenn Cook interviews with Titans

The Browns may lose their assistant general manager but gain some draft picks in the process.

The Cleveland Browns may lose another member in their front office after the Titans requested permission to interview assistant general manager Glenn Cook. Last offseason the team lost Kwesi Adofo-Mensah when he took the general manager position with the Minnesota Vikings. One year later another team looks to poach from the Browns front office to fill their general manager vacancy.

Just like with Adofo-Mensah if Glenn Cook were to get this job the Browns would receive a third-round compensatory pick this season and next season. the NFL has the policy to promote diversity in the league that grants a team two third-round picks if a minority coach or execute is promoted elsewhere.

Vikings announce interview with Browns exec Glenn Cook completed

Cook’s resume is an interesting one and could interest teams looking to get ahead of the curve in their front office:

The Cleveland Browns have a couple of front office executives that are in high demand for interviews this offseason. With the success of GM Andrew Berry, teams are interested in replicating what has gone well in Cleveland over the last two seasons.

Kwesi Adofo-Mensah and Glenn Cook have had multiple interviews over the last two weeks. Adofo-Mensah interviewed with Carolina last season and was seen as a sleeper candidate for jobs this year. Cook’s name had not been mentioned in many circles but has drawn the interest of the Chicago Bears and Minnesota Vikings, along with Adofo-Mensah.

Cook was promoted to VP of Player Personnel when Berry took over in 2020. Previously, Cook was Assistant Director of Pro Scouting with the team. He has been with Cleveland since 2016.

The Vikings announced that they have completed their interview with Cook on Thursday:

In their write-up, the Vikings highlighted Cook’s four years as a linebacker with the Miami Hurricanes and being drafted by the Chicago Cubs in 2009.

With this being his first chance to interview for the top front-office position, Cook may be a long shot to take over a team in 2021 but would likely be a more likely candidate in 2022.

Bears GM candidate profile: Get to know Glenn Cook

We’re taking a look at what Glenn Cook brings to the table in our Bears GM candidate profile.

The Chicago Bears fired general manager Ryan Pace after seven seasons, and they’ve wasted no time exploring candidates to replace him.

Chairman George McCaskey, President/CEO Ted Phillips, Hall of Fame executive Bill Polian, VP of Player Engagement Lamar ‘Soup’ Campbell and Senior VP of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Tanesha Wade will conduct the search for Chicago’s next GM, a process which McCaskey promised would be “thorough, diligent and exhausted.”

The Bears have cast a wide net of GM candidates that they’ve extended interviews to, including Cleveland Browns VP of Player Personnel Glenn Cook, who recently interviewed for Chicago’s GM vacancy.

Let’s take a look at what Cook brings to the table in our Bears GM candidate profile:

Vikings request interviews with 2 current, 1 former Browns execs

2 current, 1 former Browns front office guys requested for interviews by a different NFC North squad this time:

The Cleveland Browns could lose some pieces to their organization this offseason. Success tends to lead to others poaching from a team and, while the Browns didn’t make the playoff in 2021, their front office and coaching staff have done a very good job.

Earlier we learned that Jeremy Garrett would be leaving the team to take over the defensive line at Liberty University. We also learned that two front office personnel were requested for interviews by the Chicago Bears.

Now comes word that those same two executives are being requested for interviews by the Bears division rival, the Minnesota Vikings.

According to multiple reports, the Vikings have requested interviews with Kwesi Adofo-Mensah and Glenn Cook from Cleveland. They have also requested to interview former Browns front office member Eliot Wolf. Wolf now works for the New England Patriots.

Adofo-Mensah has been regarded as a sleeper name for this hiring cycle but Cook’s inclusion with two teams may be more surprising.

Wolf was with Cleveland under John Dorsey after starting his career with his father, Ron Wolf, in Green Bay.

If either executive gets hired as a general manager this year, the team will receive compensatory picks at the end of the third round in 2022 and 2023. While losing talented front office members is difficult, adding day two picks in the NFL draft is always helpful.

With two requests already in, it would not be surprising to see either Adofo-Mensah or Cook get even more interviews this offseason.

Former Eagles coach Doug Pederson completes interview with Bears for vacant position

The #Bears on Wednesday interviewed #Browns Glenn Cook for their general manager position and former #Eagles HC Doug #Pederson for their head-coaching job

Doug Pederson has been making the rounds on the interview circuit and on Wednesday, he was in Chicago for an official interview with the Bears along with Glenn Cook.

Cook has spent the past six seasons with the Browns as assistant director of pro scouting (2016-19) and vice president of player personnel (2020-present), and in his current role, he works closely with executive vice president of football operations and general manager Andrew Berry, who worked alongside Pederson here in Philadelphia.

Pederson has interviewed with the Jaguars and Bears while holding interest from the Vikings and Broncos vacant openings as well.

Pederson spent five seasons as Eagles head coach from 2016-20, compiling a record of 42-37-1 in the regular season and 4-2 in the playoffs and leading the franchise to its first Super Bowl championship in 2017.
