On how Grant Williams’ father used to be Prince’s bodyguard

Grant’s dad was once a bodyguard for one of the most famous pop stars of all time.

Boston Celtics reserve forward Grant Williams is a remarkable young man with elite strength, dangerous athleticism, an interest in leveraging his platform to help others as an NBA athlete, and an appreciation for all things nerdy.

So it should probably not surprise that his parents are quite interesting people as well, with his mother being a NASA scientist and his father, as he revealed in a recent interview on the Celtics Blog “First to the Floor” podcast, was once a bodyguard for one of the most famous pop stars of all time — Prince Rogers Nelson, better known to many as simply “Prince”.

To hear about that era of his life from the man himself, take a look at the clip embedded below as Gil Williams shares what it was like keeping the star of “Purple Rain” safe.

Grant Williams’ dad Gil on his son’s offseason skill improvements

The elder Williams had plenty to say about the Celtics reserve forward’s offseason growth.

His scoreless ejection in his last game for the Boston Celtics aside, reserve forward Grant Williams has added the ability to put the ball on the floor and attack when opposing defenses close out on his lethal 3-pointer to his game, and it has been getting the Tennessee alum plenty of attention in a contract year for Williams.

And there may be no better person besides the man himself to take stock of how his game has been changing than Gil Williams, the former Vol’s father, known for his collegiality as much as his knowledge of his son’s playing abilities.

To talk over the growth of Grant’s game heading into the 2022-23 NBA season, the hosts of the “First to the Floor” podcast brought on Gil, who had plenty to say about his son’s offseason skill enhancement.

Grant Williams’ dad on his growth with the Boston Celtics, finals play and more

Hear about Grant’s development as a player, his monster work ethic, tussles with Golden State Warriors’ Draymond Green in the 2022 NBA Finals and more.

If you are a fan of the Boston Celtics and don’t know who Gil Williams is, it wouldn’t be the weirdest thing in the world. But you certainly know his son Grant, who is getting ready for another season in Boston with an eye on returning to the NBA Finals.

His father recently made an appearance on the “First to the Floor” podcast (formerly known as the “Celtics Reddit” podcast) to talk about Grant’s development as a player, his monster work ethic, tussles with Golden State Warriors’ Draymond Green in the 2022 NBA Finals and more.

Maybe as engaging an interview as his son is, you don’t want to miss out on this fun chat with the man behind Batman in Boston.
